Movieman.... maybe Todd just got booted from a OWS protest, they don't want to work for it, just give it to me. Just kidding Todd. People need to understand the effort required to do this business. I do it as a second job and it is a lot of work. Many people say to me I want to do that until I tell them about all the work.

1) Finding auctions...2-3 hrs per week
2) Planning auction trips...1-3 hrs per week
3) Attending auctions...2-4 hrs per week  (varies greatly, have spent 12 hrs at one caravan)
4) Cleaning units...1-5 hrs each  (varies greatly with size of the unit)
5) Digging through the stuff... 3-6 hrs each  (varies greatly)
6) Dump runs...1-2 hrs each
7) Organizing and pricing...3-5 hrs each  (varies greatly)
Then there is selling items... many, many hours

This is by no means a definitve breakdown, but a glance at a typical week for me when I attend an auction and get a unit. If you portray yourself not willing to work hard for the payoff, you will get a reaction. The folks here will help you greatly, as they do for me because I'm still learning. Good luck.


 

I would have bid 80 on this unit. Played golf for many years, my father coaches it, and that bag looks nice. Those pro style bags aren't cheap. The clubs depend on age, but put the best full set you can together with the bag and supplies and I would think you could get 80 or more easy. New golf equipment is so expensive, sell it as a beginners set without the big upfront cost. Go to a couple pro shops and see if they have a place to advertise selling used clubs, most will.

I agree with you Movieman, even though I do somewhat enjoy that type of work, I don't have space or enough time to do that. I would rather sell it as a rehab, which I have done, and move on. The only exception would be something I keep for myself. I got a dresser from a unit in the summer that was very heavy and well built. I stored it to refinish this winter and it will go in a spare bedroom. Will take before and afters.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the unit. I love units packed with boxes and totes also, even if they turn out to be clothes which I have had no problem selling at yardsales. I hunt the Middle TN area, is this where you are? I know of a silent auction yesterday but could not attend and I'm not a fan of silent auctions. Good luck to you.

money4nothing... I have also avoided Ebay for to long due to all I have read about the hassels, but like you this is something I can no longer put off. I have 3 totes full of brand new designer clothes and misc. items that are to valuable for yard sale and haven't sold on craiglist. You are not alone.

You're right, but if UPS & FedEx had their business model controlled by Congress think what they would look like. Between union's, poor management and Congress controlling my job future, I was desperate to find something that I totally control. Good luck to everyone.
