General Storage Auction Talk / What is trash?
« on: January 18, 2011, 06:42:52 PM »
What do you consider to be trash?
What do you consider to be ok for reselling?
And what do you consider a treasure?

I would love to hear what you guys think.
The reason is, today at an auction, this guy got a unit for 5 bucks. 5 BUCKS! i mean, even if 80% of the unit is trash he would find something to make a profit on. BUT NO! he took it all to the dump, except for one thing that i told him not to throw away.
Later on in the day we stopped by a wendy's for a burger, and i showed him an add online, where they sold those candle holders for $79.00 if i haden't stopped him he would have taken everything to the dump.
He even smashed a perfectly good book shelf, (Ikea bookshelf) even that one he could have sold for a profit.

So i ask you all, what is trash to you?

General Storage Auction Talk / Pictures of Auctions
« on: January 09, 2011, 09:20:20 PM »
I was thinking, what if we startto take some pictures of our auctions?

I mean after you win a unit, take a picture of it, with the port open.
Then take some pics as you go along sorting it out.
And then of course after you have found your goodies.

I will start to bring my camera around from now on.
Let us document and share our finest moments.

General Storage Auction Talk / Where to find the best units
« on: January 08, 2011, 02:46:48 PM »
In what states and cities do you think the best units are?

I believe that California, New York, Texas, Arizona must be good. Just becasue of the fact that you have alot of high income population.
Also they have had alot of "rich" history.

What do you think?

Stories about Storage Auctions / Today's auction
« on: January 04, 2011, 05:17:55 PM »
Today in Memphis,TN we had auction at all the U-stor locations.
13 locations, and a total of 31 units.

I got one unit today, for $170.00

The most exspensive one today went for $740.00 And the cheapest one went for $90.00
So pricewise it was a good day.

The crowd startet out with 14 people at 09:00, but around noon more people joined in, and after noon it was 28 people attending.
Not alot of new faces today, maybe 5-6 was new. But only one of the newbies was bidding at the end, and he was pushed up pretty high for a crappy unit, lol $460.00 for alot of blankets and stuffed garbage bags.  Hasta la vista "hype bidder"

There was 31 units in total, out of these 5 was crap, 7 was ok, and rest of them was good. From what we could see from the door.

Other Forms of Selling / Aquarium stuff
« on: January 02, 2011, 12:43:18 PM »
If you ever get aquarium stuff in a storage unit, you can post it for sale here.

aquabid.com

This is an auction site for live fish and equipment.
I have used it before and it works pretty good.

Hey..

You should have a section in this forum that is about places you can find out the value of stuff.

One exsample: If you buy a unit with a lot of sportscards, you can subscribe to a membership at Beckett online. They have monthly prices on all cards made.

Or if you buy a unit and end up with a coin collection, it would be nice if someone in this forum could give a tip about a place to have it appraised.

« on: December 21, 2010, 08:26:36 AM »
I won an auction for a unit, and it was what you can call, a pack rat unit.
Tons of stuff, 80% garbage.

But out of this unit (10x20) i have gotten so much nice stuff, just waiting to be sold over new year.

9 War ration books, valued at 10-15 dollars a pice.
Stamp collection, valued at 2500-3000 dollars
Vintage JVC videocamera, valued at 350 dollars
Vintage Bauer 88B videocamera (from the 1950's) valued at 600 dollars
16 pices of Jewelry, valued at a total of 200 dollars
Brand new Tommy Hilfiger checkbook/wallet, valued at 125 dollars
6 Nintendo games, valued at 15 dollars a pice.
Vintage Sawyers slide projector, valued at 225 dollars

Ont top of this i got alot of brand new lamps and clothing, all of this is valued at about 300-400 dollars.

Not bad when i paid 150 dollars for the unit, + about 100 dollars in dumping fees.
