I'd take your photos to an antique dealer and they might have an idea of what it is.  I like your thought that it might be for blankets and pillows.  Could be some sort of hope chest too.

I hate to complain about a free site, especially as a newbie.  But....this site is painfully slow, no matter what time of day I visit.  It doesn't stop me from trying to contribute or read posts but I will say that I'd be far more likely to visit more frequently if the site was faster.  I'm a member on several online forums and none is even close to being as slow as this site.  Every click of the mouse involves a lot of waiting and frequent errors that require a refresh or using the back button and trying again.

Again, I hate to complain but this site is unusually slow and I could see how some could lose patience and bail.

My two cents, for what it's worth.

Okay folks, here's a project I've been sitting on for 5 months due to a lack of time.  It's an antique dollhouse with a whole bunch of vintage furniture (not shown) that I bought at an online auction.  It needs some minor repairs to get it ready for sale.  I have no idea what this thing is worth, only what I paid for it.  It's a huge house that will take someone with a bit of room to display and or use it.  I haven't seen one like it, in my online research so I think it may have been handmade.

What say you?  What might this thing go for?

You need to determine whether or not the effort and work of putting together a well-run sale is worth the money you'll make.

If it's a thrown-together sale with no pricing on anything, a lot of people will make a quick circuit and vacate the premises.  If things are neatly put out and priced, they'll take their time to make sure they don't miss anything.  Also, don't put crap in your sale or put out a "Free Box" in which to put your crap.

I had a sale last month in which I sold all my auction and estate sale purchases.  I made about $500 in three days.  On the less valuable items, I put a price sticker.  On the more valuable items, I put a tag with a description of the item, with the price.  I allowed some folks to haggle a bit but never took less than I valued the item.

I put an ad on craigslist and a ton of signs.  People appreciate a lot of signs to guide them to your sale.

I typically have one sale per year, depending on inventory.

Did Hester think that, if someone had a valuable Stradivarius, they'd keep in a bleeping storage locker?  Stupid.
Does anyone else think this Mark Ballello (sp) character is a manufactured character to add drama to the show?  He's a joke, IMO.  I laughed my arse off when he thought some crappy old Nintendo console was worth $13,000.  They showed him going through the contents of a locker and he seems to spew lines that other people on the show have used. "This is why I buy storage lockers!"  It sounded better when Darrell Sheets used the line umpteen times.

I don't mind Darrell but Barry Weiss is the reason I watch the show.

I am new to the storage auction business and attended my first auction this very day.  It was a two-unit sale and one unit had only some really long (rent a long truck long) scaffolding items in a huge locker.  It went for $455 and I didn't bid.  The other unit had a bunch of household stuff and I had a $150 limit in my head.  The bidding blew past that in short order and ended up selling for $205 to a regular.  I kept telling myself to not get sucked into buying a locker, just to buy a locker.  The bidding surpassed what I had valued the locker and I kept my money and passed.

I have non-buyer's remorse now but know that I'll find a unit or two down the line that will make me forget all about this first day lost unit.

I've read a lot of the posts on the forum and look forward to learning a lot from all the experienced storage locker buyers who selflessly offer up their knowledge for guys like me to learn from.

I don't enter into this business looking to score the big unit that yields hidden thousands of dollars.  I enter the business looking for a way to buy and sell my way into some extra cash.  I know this will be a lot of hard work and I'm ready for that.  I have previously bought and sold items from online auctions and from estate sales.  I know that it takes time and some luck to sell all the items I purchase.  I use craigslist and garage sales in order to sell the things I buy.

I hope to start small and work my way up.  Work being the operative word.  I don't look to get rich fast.  I fully plan on working for every dollar I make.
