What's it Worth?? / Re: Fine art~just how do you move it?
« on: November 23, 2011, 12:19:52 PM »
So I'm going out on a limb and guessing the gallery in question is Adobe Gallery??

I'm also guessing you've tried Golden Dawn?? They feature the family's work (3 generations) and I'd be shocked if they weren't interested.

If neither of these places will work with you, you may also try Santa Fe area auction houses and see what they have to say.

I really want to help you with this, cause I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have something with that kind of value and not be able to liquidate it.

If you want $3500 and the gallery thinks they can make $15k, have you offered to sell it to them for, say, $4k with the as is frame?

The extra $500 would cover cost of packing/shipping/insuring and time.

If they honestly believe they can sell it for $15k, I don't see them refusing that unless they ONLY do consignments. You get the cash right away and they have enough margin to pay for a new frame and still make plenty on it.

Never hurts to make the offer.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Taking Credit Card Payments
« on: November 22, 2011, 11:59:52 PM »
On the topic of chargebacks, as long as you can present the signature to the credit card company, they will take the hit, not you.

We used to run into this from time to time at the store I worked at. All we did was fax the signature to the credit card company and we got paid. It's a pain, but usually not going to take money out of your pocket.

As for the ap, someone may know more than I, but I'm thinking if a signature is taken on the device, that may be transmitted with the transaction information. Someone help out with this?

Sorry for calling you out incorrectly.   :'(

Not a problem, sir.

Now, let us get back to the thread, cause I like this topic.

I have gotten some new ideas from the guy next to me at the flea market.  He takes old pictures, newspaper clips, etc. and puts them in a frame with some other items.

MovieMan: It was in response to craig's comment above. Yes, getting off-topic, but still part of the thread. Maybe I should use the quote tool in the future.

I'll be cowering my head in shame should anyone need me.  :-[

I love the idea of framing old newspaper/magazine clippings with other bits to make a nice piece. My wife does enjoy doing little crafty things, so maybe get her brain thinking about something like that.

I am a Brandi fan, but for this one, I'd have to take my chances with the illustrated woman. Seems like she'd be more fun to actually spend time with.

Certainly a better trip then my first auction outing.

Keep learning and plugging away.

An advertiser is buying numbers of viewers within various demographic groups. Doesn't really matter what the show is or how it is produced.

Frankly, that's pretty much how it's been since radio shows.

Flea Markets / Re: Is Black Friday a good day to sell at Flea Market?
« on: November 22, 2011, 03:35:03 PM »
There just isn't the incentive to hit the fleas after Thanksgiving the way there is to buy from the department stores and discount retailers.

They'll be around for Christmas shopping, just not that weekend.

Funny thing about country of origin.

I've heard that the fake Coach bags will often say Made in USA even though the real Coach bags are made in China.

It's a tricky game and something we'll all have to deal with at one time or another.

Flea Markets / Re: Flea Market Revenue ?
« on: November 21, 2011, 07:31:35 PM »
My thoughts on the gloves are that people know they will only need them a couple times a year and would rather buy cheap at the flea then pay full retail.

Working at a department store last winter in central TX, most of the cold-weather clothes were bought by people traveling north for the holidays or for business. Very little need for it down here.
