The Lounge / Re: Roku 2 xs
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:31:00 AM »
I've got a buddy that uses the Roku and he seems to like it. He's been off cable/dish for 6 months and hasn't had a complaint yet! I'm going to get out of dish/cable once my Dish Network contract is cheap enough to affordably break it. However, I got their iPad deal and it's crazy expensive!

Craigslist / Re: cList....is dead!

Craigslist hasn't been too bad for me when I put new stuff up there. I've had some items up there for 6 months without any interest. Furniture flies out though!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #1....January, 2014

I bought a locker yesterday. Paid $350. Not overly excited about it.. I may make a little off of it, nothing spectacular. I paid that much because I was able to see a matching dresser and 2 night stands. Real wood. Vintage look. Pre 70s.  Unable to see all the drawers, going on faith that it's all there. Also has at least 2 couches which look to be in decent shape. 2 bins, one of which is filled with purses, one is filled with shoes. Purse bin has nothing but fakes in it, or low to middle grade purses.. Some from WalMart, some from St. John's Bay, Nine West, Gap. 1 Coach fake, 1 Louis Vuitton fake, one Dolce & Gabbana.

Yesterday I went to 5 facilities, nothing to get excited about all day.. I finally bought at the last facility, which was close to my house and shop. I bought the unit with only 4 more units to be auctioned, so I figured this one was as good as it was going to get. Wrong... Unit after mine was a closed hair salon, pass. After that was an empty... The 3rd was the one I had been looking for all day! It had kids stuff, furniture, TONS of boxes. It was a 10x10 packed to the front. That one went for $275!! I was tempted to buy both, but now storage space was becoming an issue.. so I reluctantly passed.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: LinkedIn
« on: January 22, 2014, 01:14:15 PM »
LinkedIn is filled with people who think they're more important than they really are.. pretentious people. Self important (insert expletive here) who think the world of corporate America. I signed up for my printing biz, because I thought it may be a good way to get customers, but no.. People talk about themselves, don't care about what you post.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Missed a great pick.....AAARRRGH !
« on: January 20, 2014, 08:23:17 AM »
I've given up on estate sales.. Everybody around here uses a service to sell their stuff, so they end up charging more than resale prices.. On Sundays they drop to 30-50% which brings the price down to about what I can sell stuff for..

This month has been slow.. Either people pay up or there's simply no auctions to go to. It seems like all the auctions are crammed in the end of the month! Starting Wednesday we have a full day of auctioning nearly the rest of the month! We'll see what those auctions bring!

Yeah, looks like a base to a fondue kit. Looks like it could double as a burner. Might get $5 at the flea market. If you had all pieces, you'd still only be at $20 at best.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Efficient Use of Packing Materials
« on: January 14, 2014, 11:29:13 AM »
I don't buy peanuts. I only use them when I get them in something else. When I do use them, I use them to stuff items. For example, put them inside shoes to keep the form.. I just shipped a Hermle Anniversary clock today. The pendulum lock is broken, so I put peanuts inside the clock to keep the pendulum from moving.

Wrapping paper goes on 75% clearance after Christmas. May be too late now, but you can usually pick up 75-100 yards of packing material for about $1. I even use the cardboard rolls as a barrier between my product and box edges. Toilet paper rolls are good for that too.

I'm not sure what this is. There were a lot of Ford Model A parts in this locker, this was with them. Can't figure out what it is though.. i44.tinypic.com/2zftp8i.jpg

When you buy lockers, you inherently get packing materials. I use all the paper wrap, newspaper, bubble wrap, etc. from lockers. If I buy something online, I'm always saving peanuts and whatnot as well.
