The Treasure Chest / Re: Got a unit on Friday
« on: April 24, 2011, 03:04:16 PM »
The tv scared off a lot of people in my opinion, it's a big bastard.  I heard some comments from some people in the crowd about how hard it would be to load the tv.  Well, to their disappointment the tv had rolling wheels underneath the base, so it was actually really easy to move.  Selling it may take some skill, it works just fine but it's 11 years old.  I haven't sold anything yet from this unit but I'm not too worried about it.

Auction was in Minneapolis, crowd was in the upper 30's.  Unit was a 10X10 and from the door, all you could see was the couch's stacked on top of each other with the mattresses stacked on top of the couch's, and the big 55" tv blocked the rest of the view.  Only two guys were bidding, it was up to $225, I threw out my $230 bid and to my excitement I got it.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Dungeons and Dragons Unit

Awesome! nerds love D & D! (I used to be one of those nerds so I can say that)...

I couldn't believe how fast they were selling on Amazon, it was crazy.  Although the highlight of this unit had to be all the VHS Porn that was stashed in it, not because of the actual porn, but because of the names of the porn were priceless.  For example, Whack Attack, Oriental Cream Eaters, Asian Butt Orgy, and my personal favorite, Revenge of the Nerd Sluts.  Straight to the trash those went.  If I died tomorrow, I don't want people sorting through my belongings and coming across those.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Dungeons and Dragons Unit

Last week in Minneapolis I hit up an auction, two locations, 23 units total.  I'd say about 25 people total at each facility.  Anyways, I didn't bid on anything the whole day, didn't see anything that I considered as an opportunity until the last unit of the of the day.  It was an inside unit, I was towards the end of the line so I didn't get to check it out until most others did.  Since it was the last unit of the auction, most people looked and then left.  About 6 people hung around.  Anyways the unit was a trashy 5 X 10, 6 mattresses total, junky couch, cheap tv stand and tv, however , it had a lot of bags and boxes.  Anyways, I could tell the mattresses scared most people, me included.  The mattresses were in the middle of the unit and it was hard to see anything in the back of the unit.  Me being 6'4" I had a good advantage, I jumped up with my light and saw a 4 piece bedroom set in the way back.  No one is bidding so I throw out a $5 dollar bid.  Going once, going twice, sold.  Got it for 5 bucks.  One of the best units ever!!!  Behind the mattresses' is:

7'10 G Loomis fishing rod ($150 Craigslist)
Shimano Calcutta fishing reel ($130 Ebay)
6 Abu Garcia spinning reels. (120 Total Ebay)
15 brand new Rapala Vertical Jigging Lures (Sold for $45 ebay)
30 DVDs ($30 Ebay, two seperate lots)
Playstation 2 + 30 games, controllers, etc ($55 ebay)
4 Piece bedroom set ($300 CL)
****ty Couch ($40 CL)
Sega Genesis + 8 games ($30 ebay)
Lebron James shoes ($20 ebay)
Dennis Rodman jersey ($25 ebay)
50+ Dungeons and Dragons books ($400 dollars between Amazon and Ebay, sold like crazy!!!)
4 End tables (80 in total from CL)
Still have a Sword and some misc. stuff to sell yet.

The reason this unit rocked is how fast everything sold!!! Lots of junk too.  This unit has my wife excited about this side job of mine, she does all the shipping now!!!  Me being a teacher it will be hard for me to hit up another auction until summer break.  $5 dollar unit is easily yielding me $1,000+ Profit!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 2...February, 2011
« on: February 26, 2011, 11:03:26 PM »
There are a lot of people losing money right now.  I've seen many units sold for way more than what they were worth.  One guy was buying stuff left and right, and he blew through over 15 grand in about four auctions, including buying one locker with a lot of nice looking furniture for $7600 (plus tax, he was in it in the mid 8's!  I've talked to him quite a bit now, and the other day he told me he will be lucky if he get's 5k back out of that locker, and his wife is starting to get a little mad at him.  Their garage is full and he has spent a lot of their savings and they haven't made any money yet.

I was also selling a few clothes at a shop I do business with, and the owner's husband was there, and he started talking about storage auctions.  He told me he was going to get him and his buddy to each put in $600 and they were going to go to the auctions and "tear it up"!  I told him I know guys that go with $20K, and they aren't even "tearing it up" right now!

I do think it is starting to stabilize a little bit.....I got 2 1/2 this week (split one) but prices are still a lot higher than they used to be.  Paid $50, $360, and $1075.  Before, that would have been $10-$20, $150, and maybe $400-$500!

Ha,

there was this one locker and it was beautiful.  Well packed, full of goodies.  So as I scan it, I come up with a max of 600, I mean great stuff in there.  I sit back and wait to see what the other bidders do and next thing I know the bidding is up to 1,300 bucks, I just walked away.

I am pretty sure at least one of the shows was picked up for a second season, so waiting until March probably wont help a damn thing.

Orlando

Tax season doesn't help right now either

One thing I hated about this circuit was they took credit cards.

Went on an auction circuit yesterday, 6 locations. All day the prices were way out of hand.  Too many people with too much money to piss away. I thought the cold weather would deter people, I was dead wrong. One locker went for 2900 and believe me, it was not worth 2900.  I went home empty handed, I just couldn't justify paying retail for a unit.  My last auction of the day was in Minneapolis and it was an inside facility.  The crowds were insane, trying to move was such a hassle.  And while I'm venting, don't people shower anymore, my God I've never encountered such shady, stinky people.  I think I'll wait until the end of March before hitting another auction, the scene is just too saturated right now.

The other weekend my wife and I were back in my home town visiting my folks and my sister asked me if my wife and I had any pics from **** we've got from unit.  She's curious because of the shows and we were going through the pics and came across a pearl bracelet that was missing a clasp.  My sister freaked, "You found a Mikimoto in a storage unit?"  My wife and I looked at each other confused, like, "you didn't tell me we had that?"  We had completely forgotten we still had it!  It still had the original case and authorization papers too.

Some cards that I have sold through ebay that have made me some coin too are:

Adrian Peterson rookie cards
Tom Brady
I found 2 Topps Roger Clemens Rookies sold them as a lot and got 15 for them
Nolan Ryan regardless of year will eventually sell
Any 90's-00 HOF'er rookie will sell on ebay
Derek Jeter sells a lot, I sold 6 Jeter rookies within the last year and I think I got around 60 for all of them.

Cards still sell.
