Storage Wars Reviews, Spring, 2013
« on: March 18, 2013, 08:05:48 PM »
No Dave Hester tonight !

An Afro-American guy (from Palmdale) is front and center at the city of  La Habra, CA.

16 units for sale today…guess they never go to a place that only has 1 to 3 lkrs for sale.

**** Back with details later****

First unit looks typical but quality of furn is OK. Barry says no. Lkr sells for $300 to Jarrod.

Second unit, bikes, toys, appliances. Darrel’s got some blonde woman with him.
Lkr sells for $450 to “Ivy” the straw-chewing guy from Palmdale.

Third unit…they don’t even show it much (the guys don’t comment on it) and Ivy gets it for $220.

Fourth unit…a pattern emerges…Ivy gets it for $60.

Fifth unit…Barry buys it for $800…the stained mattresses might be worth that !

Sixth unit…LOTS OF TOOLS…maybe 3 welders, etc. Ivy thinks it would bring in $15,000 at his outlet.  Lkr sells for…$2,600 to Darrell. Sun is way down..but subsequent shots are showing a lot more daylight…amazing what editing does…maybe they came back the next day.

Jarrod says he’ll get $50 for a lockbox that Walmart sells for $35 !  They got some watches too. Watches value total: $1,300 plus mostly because of calculator watch.

Ivy counts up the dollars from his many lkr buys. In a $60 lkr he finds a tent he says will sell for $200. Barbies new in box.

Darrel looks at his tool lkr is up to 5 welders I think…one he says he’ll get $4K for.

Barry takes a rangefinder to a golf course to try it out.  Value….$1,500…whoa!

One more new episode tonight as a LEAD-IN to new series Bates Motel.

Episode #2....March 18, 2013

Back later with details.

Lake Elsinore, CA

Darrel says he is going to use “reverse psychiatry” on himself.
Matt and Mark Harris…”kings of swag”….possible Dave replacements ?

Jarrod says “we used to buy one lkr…now we need to buy five”…for the 2nd store they are starting.  Barry brings a friend along…”Boston Joe.”

First lkr..6 x 10. Oddities, old crates.  Sells for $725 to Darrell.  One of the Harris brothers says, “The main guy’s called the auctioneer, right?”

Second lkr…hula hoop. No other items described. Sells for $45 to Mark Harris.

Darrell looks at his lkr…Rigid wrench..big..$75 (sounds right) worm-drive saw (used to get $75…now lucky to get $45 in my area…no construction going on).  Darrel gets an“astrological” thing..though he means “astronomical” device showing rotation of the planets…this is the most common thing I find after mattresses (sarcasm).

Third lkr.  Maybe a 6 x 6…clean boxes.  Sells for $500 to Barry’s buddy.
Barry looks at the “Salvidor” dolly…Groan. Skeleton gloves dig for gold and comes up with nothing.  For some odd treason the odd couple goes skydiving!

***
The Harris Bros look at one of their lkrs. Backgammon, vacuum cleaner (junkie), small corner shelf unit.  Itme with “history”…a Trader Vics item…worth a lot of moola ($100 maybe). Paper wrapped thrift store glasses.  They paid $45 for the lkr and at the moment they value it at $200.

Now they’ve found a little still of some kind…moonshiner.

Darrel goes to a planetarium society..the hopes for a big winner. It’s a “tulurium” (sp?) to teach about the planets rotations around the sun. Value…$4,000. I would have thought maybe $500…I have seen these in science classrooms. Guess it is made of gold.

The Harris bros have an olive oil press, not a still. They go looking for an olive ranch to get some idea of its worth. Can’t be more than $200. It comes from late 1800s. Value…$700.  Let the value escalation continue.

Now let’s go to the Bates Motel !

Dave Hester is sorely missed. Those other guys in both episodes were incredibly poor substitutes. And that moonshine thing turned out to be an olive press.

Yes, compared to Dave the subsitute players didn't amount to much, but not sure I really miss him. The two brothers were annoying in my mind, and one Barry is enough, let alone THREE of that type. The other new guy had no discernable appeal that I could see...maybe we're all spoiled by the antics of the original cast.

Yes, that olive press proved once again the OVER VALUATION by the show. I doubt seriously that very many people would pay $700 for that 1800s press (see the bottom of my post directly above yours). Maybe I'll go on eBay to see if any are even LISTED let alone selling.

Went to eBay. No olive presses listed or completed, but there are TWO olive oil URNS on there from the 14th-15th CENTURY with asking prices of $250.  Those put the 1800s olive press to shame in the value category for their age !

Storage Wars....evaluations....BAD, BAD, BAD.  I have heard Jarrod give some realistic prices for some items to be sold in his thrift store.

I think that we are going to continue to see this carousel of characters for this season.. Sort of an audition process.. Nobody is set in stone. I don't miss Dave, because I think he's pretty much full of crap with his pricing. But, so far, he is/was more of a personality than these 3 schlubs they had on last night..

Have to say the show is boring. Can someone tell me where is the entertainment part of the show is, Its the same old same old stuff the novelty of the show has worn off.

I agree, I think these shows are destined for cancellation. I think Storage Wars New York has another season or two, and SW Texas has one season left, but the others are on their way out.

I'd really like to see some recent ratings for the shows to be able to measure their decline.

Yep, the bloom is pretty much off the rose but I believe there are two new episodes tonight, Monday, March 25, 2013 so I'll tune in and see if that's the case. Then apparently SEASON 4 starts on April 16.

Edit:

Nope, I recognized the first few minutes of the first episode tonight. It's old. Looks like April 16 for new ones.
