Good Deed of the Day

My next door neighbor recently passed away about a week ago. Her family came in from Dallas today to liquidate her estate. They were overwhelmed because they didn't know how to get rid of all the stuff. I felt bad for them because they had to leave soon, their trailers were full and there was still 2 trailer loads of furniture and appliances left in the house.

So, I decided to go out of my way and start calling people I know in the resale business. After several calls, I finally found a guy that owns a resale shop that had bought some stuff from me in the past. I told him about the situation and he came out with a trailer and a crew and bought everything in the house.

I bought some of the appliances. They bought all of the furniture and household items. The house was completely cleaned out in less than an hour. Our neighbors family members were relieved and now maybe they can move on with their lives.

That's for sure. The whole ordeal tied me up for about three hours and Saturday is my busiest day preparing the auction schedules. I ended up having to burn the midnight oil to complete the auction lists. If you've ever wondered if sleep typing is possible...I know that it, in fact, can be done.

Perhaps they sould have just hired an estate company because that's the stuff that we end up biding on.
Families take everything because they are overwhelmed, stick it in storge because they don't know what to do........

But heirs never want to part with possessions.

My grandma died years ago and my uncle still has 3/4 of the household goods.
Just can't part with it even tho there isn't any real sentimental or financial value.....it was "just mom's"

Hopefully you eliminated one stress for them.

They probably would have made four times what they did if they had hired an estate sale company. I think they underestimated the amount of stuff she had. They brought two trailers with them and they packed all of the valuable and sentimental stuff in the trailers.

The lady's furnishings were nothing to write home about. They were solid wood, but dated to the 80's. The stuff wasn't in bad condition, just out of style. But definitely resell-able.

Her family was at the 11th hour and faced with having to donate everything because they couldn't move it. I think they were just happy to get something for the stuff.
