Storage Facility Kicks a Kid Out
« on: September 11, 2014, 01:27:19 PM »
So the first auction I'm at today there's this man with his 4-year old son he brought along, only kid there. After that auction we move along to the next facility, but since there were only 2 units at the first auction, we all got to the second auction 40-minutes early. A few minutes before the start of the auction the facility manager sends the auctioneer out to tell this man he can't bring his son in due to insurance regulations.

Now I've been to this facility many times and there have been kids there in the past, so either they're starting all of the sudden to crack down on kids being there, or perhaps, just perhaps this all had something to do this this man being of Arabic decent and today being 9/11. :017:

Wow, I really hope it was not because of the latter. If they have just started to impose new rules about bringing kids in, then I guess it is just proper procedures. Perhaps they are afraid the child might get hurt or whatsoever, hence restricting his participation in the auction. However, if you were to look at it, it is indeed pretty silly to even have such a ruling. If the parent is there at the storage unit, he/she is expected to look after the child. So, I don’t see any problem in bringing the child in. They were just being prejudiced.

Some auctioneers in my area are tolerant of children, while others strictly enforce a "no kids" policy. While our daughter was an infant/toddler, I would have to leave my wife and daughter at home for certain auctions. My wife loved to go to auctions, so the days she had to stay home were a real disappointment to her.

I've really got nothing to say about how this whole incident was handled. It's one thing for it to be safety regulations at the storage facility, but when it comes to racism... I don't think that anybody should have to stand for being treated like that.
