New way for locker renters to pay their bills !
« on: July 02, 2013, 08:35:56 AM »
Here's the scoop on a new way to get locker renters to pay their bills...lets them pay anytime of day or night.

This might mean even fewer lockers up for sale if these devices allow partial payments without any human intervention coming into play to stop such a thing.

I've seen a similar system installed at a facility here locally.  Funny thing is they always have 10+ a month going for auction.  Not a very big place either.  I think the manager there just prefers to sell peoples stuff to having to chase after them for payment.

Most storage facilities keep locks on the vacant units. Who's going to take those locks off when someone rents a unit?

If someone is late on their rent, then gets current, a kiosk can't remove the facility's lock.

I could keep going and going...

Uh...once having checked kiosk deposits, the staff would take off their lock and security tag if any.

I'd be interested in the other....going and going...observations.  How this concept is at least not an aid to managers if not..."the future of payment for storage lockers".  After all managers currently allow online credit card payments, why not this?

Yeah, but lets say someone wanted to rent a unit after business hours. Who wants to wait until the next day to get access to the unit. It just seems pointless if it still requires human interaction. Now, don't get me wrong, I can see how it might benefit some high traffic facilities. However, most storage facilities are slow paced and wouldn't need it. I also see how it could work well in unmanned boat & RV storage centers.

This is like saying "I want to buy tires at wal-mart after business hours. Who wants to wait until the next day?"

This is comparing apples and oranges. Original post was about paying late fees, not renting a locker after hours.

Are there more reasons a kiosk won't work?

Why would someone use a kiosk and then come back the next day for someone to remove the lock from the unit? They wouldn't. They would just wait until the next day where they could handle everything at once.

If they were late on rent and they needed access to the unit, the kiosk can't remove the lock for them.

Like I said, I can see how it would help with high traffic facilities. I have seen facilities that have a line out the door all day long. However, most facilities aren't like that. They might service 5-10 customers a day. The facility mangers watch TV and surf the internet most of the day. A kiosk would be pointless.

99% of our facilities have online bill pay and rental reservation already.

Since a lot  indoor facilities here DON'T lock empty units I guess this would be a rental option.

Seems like a lot of money when facilities don't seem to be hurting for business.  And how many people must have a unit NOW, after hours?   Criminals I'm sure but other than that...it is a continence but not that big of a demand as I see it.     Plus, a lot of places are not 24/7 access anyway....

I can see this concept growing though. Maybe Auto locks doors on unit when not paid?

Right now I just see his as a way for failities to cut low level staffs hours.  That's what America needs.  Fewer jobs.
