This morning, I was cleaning out the drawers of a china cabinet that I bought in a unit last Thursday. Opened a drawer and Cha-Ching! I think there is a lot more where this came from but I haven't had a chance to look through all of the boxes.

So far, about 8 pounds of Sterling. Sorry about the XL photos. You can use the scroll bar at the bottom of the post.

Deal but it better be a supreme.

There are also about 7 large moving boxes full of paper/bubble wrapped items that I didn't have time to go through. Probably 150-200 items in all. I just unwrapped a few things in the boxes and I did see some small silver candle holders. I'm thinking that there is more silver in the boxes. It's got to be there. If someone has 8 pounds of silverware in a drawer, you know they have trays, bowls and other larger pieces as well. I'm going to go back to the unit tomorrow and go through everything carefully.

That's roughly $2,600 in silver, not bad at all. Not quite gold, but almost as good.

Obviously there are several antique pieces that could be worth more than spot. I've never sold individual pieces of silver on eBay. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, would you share your wisdom? What website should I use to look up the makers mark?

I've done a couple of experimental listings of silverware. More desirable patterns from what I can judge on the "sold" section.. I sold 1 baby fork and spoon set for $2. The other 3 listings hardly got any views. Could just be a timing thing. I typically list items that I don't have experience with 3 times. Each with different end days and times of day.

Check your local auction house. We have one here where the silver pieces go for stupid high prices. There are three buyers and they don't like to be out bid.

I love doing research. However, silver flatware is a pain.   I've never found a decent website.
If you post some with makings and stem design I'll look aound.  Don't go recycle yet.  I've seen those Crumb Knives (that flat serving one) selling for $2000.   And can't really tell from picture but some of those spoons are simular to ones I've seen for $50-$75 each.   But hey, they could be worth $1. What do i know. Everyone copied the expensive designs so hard to tell.....

Went back to the unit today. Went through every box. There was a lot of crystal, Asian pottery and fancy decorative items. I did find one silver platter. I haven't weighed it yet but it's probably about 1.5-2.0 pounds. I was expecting more silver to be there but I can't complain at this point.

That's still $4-5 hundred bucks.

With all of that silver you should really take a good look at the crystal. It could be worth more than the silver if it is really high end.
