motorcycle or cars in lockers

motorcycle or cars in lockers
« on: November 15, 2011, 02:13:52 PM »
If you end up winning the locker with car/truck/motorcycle in it, how do you claim its yours to the dmv?

I mean, the owner of the locker lost it due to non payment and knows its going to be up for an auction, can file a stolen claim with the police.

whats the workaround of this?  how does it work?

if its been mentioned in the forums before, then Im sorry for the double posting.

Thanks :)

my question is, it doesn't prove that the motorcycle came from that actual locker.

I could have found a piece of paper with his address on it and went to his house that night and stole his motorcycle and claim i got it from the locker.

get what im saying?

if I find the motorcycle, do i need to get a property manager to come out and verify it actually came from the locker and document it?

yes call me paranoid but..

The storage company takes pics of what is in the locker before auction. This happened to a freind of mine that bought a unit with a car and the owner claimed it was stolen 3 days after he lost car in the auction. The storage company had photos and the person was charged with for false infromation and was sent back to jail for parole violation for saying his car was stolen when he knew it went to auction.

You know, I never really thought about that, it just being in the locker, even a receipt for the locker says nothing that you really are the new owner. They may advise you to get a bonded title in that circumstance, not 100% sure.

Going to the property manager can be a good and or bad thing.

The Good:
Its a reference saying that yes the locker you purchased had a vehicle in it, and him/her being witness to it, VIN Numbers, license plate, etc.... May even do the majority of the paperwork for you and get a title themselves that they just give to you and you sign and take it to the Title Registration building.

The Bad:
They may say they cant sell the vehicle that way, that they have to do the paperwork and then auction it off separately.

Use search again and type in "Honda Quad".  That will bring up a number of threads where I talk about that item which I got in a pod. It also deals with lien sales of vehicles and what it takes to get them cleared with dmv.

To answer your specific question about someone questioning whether a vehicle actually came from a locker, I think it is a stretch to think it happens very often (they claim it was stolen).

You could take a picture of it in the locker; yes, I know someone could say "you stole it then you put it in the lkr," but very unlikely.

Here's an idea. Buy a locker first and if it has a car or other vehicle in it, deal with it then.  ;D

Whip out your phone camera real quick and ask the auctioneer to stand in front of the car for a documentation picture.
