Nutone Cleaning System (Vaccum?) + Trash Can Value?

Nutone Cleaning System (Vaccum?) + Trash Can Value?
« on: April 20, 2013, 03:59:40 PM »
Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience selling these types of items, and maybe an idea on the value and best way to market it. The first is a Nutone Cleaning System/Vaccum of some kind. Did the basic search online, couldnt seem to find my exact model. When plugged in and turned on, it blows out hot air and sucks in. Seems to be a stationary piece, meant to be mounted.

Secondly, I have these large trash cans. They have slits in them for shredded paper and confidental documents. They have a latch, which can be pad-locked. They have Cintas security information and stickers on them, not sure if this is the maker of the trash cans themselves though.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

You could always fill it with beer and market it to a fraternity...call it the "Chug-er-ator."  :D

No seriously, it looks like part of a central home vacuum.

Without knowing how much wear is on the central vacuum unit, it's a $50-100 item at best.

Yeah, doesn't seem to be worth much.  Can get new for $350.  Don't know the size of the $350 one. Looks smaller but may be new deign...better.    I don't know anything about these.

The bins?   They remain property of Cintas.

Cintas being a commercial supplier of.....everything!   Uniforms.  Entry mats. urinal cakes. paper products......and document shredding services.

Reminds me of a topic we discussed here a couple of years ago. If my memory serves me, somebody had gotten some paper towel or toilet paper dispensers or hand dryers like you find in public restrooms. They tried to sell them on Craigslist and were contacted by the supplier and informed it was still thier property and he/she couldn't sell it.

Asked around a bit on the Nutone.  Mainly cause I'd like one in my garage.
Now, no one I talked to has one so these are not documented answers....just opinions and "I think...."

So, first off, the unit itself it relatively inexpensive.  $300-$1200 for home use.  (Can be thousands for commercial ones, hotels, resturants....)

The one pictured seems to be a really old model.

They really make money on the install and don't really install in already built homes. (They will, but its spendy.  Have to cut into walls, re-drywall......).

So who will buy this unit when they can get a brand new one at almost cost and still have to pay for install?

Auto shops/Detail/autobody.  Cabnet makers/woodworkers.  People like that.
Rather than lug vacuume around you buy long hose.

So there is your market but what to sell for?      My hope was to I've you good news but seems you can buy complete units with 110v plug in, accessories, wall mount......$230.  Sorry, I think Alloro nailed it at $50-$100.

Thanks all, good advice. The nutone is surely an older model seeing as how difficult it is to find that exact looking model. On the bins, one of my yard sale customers suggested contacting cintas to see about a reward for lost cans. Could be worth a call.

Yeah, a call is free so why not.
Two thoughts:

1) they buy those by the thousands so their cost?  Probably not much.  How many of those thing do you think are out there because they lost a contract and it was more expensive to send out a guy to pick up bin rather than just writting it off and getting a new one?

2) why would they buy back what they own?   Seems people would steal them to sell them back......

But worth a call.  Minimum they might send someone to take them off your hands.  Useless unless you wnt a compost bin or something.  There is a youtube video on how to turn them into a "grow box".   And one guy turns them into dog house's.......lots of repurpose ideas you can do.

Heh yea that is true. I have them listed on my local craigs, $40 each. A little high perhaps but i'm hoping to emphasize the shredded paper slot and the metal latch for lock up.

I have sometimes gotten large city/contractor owned trash barrels in lockers. The biggest ones I have kept and used them for DRY storage of some articles out in an otherwise rainy backyard. I sometimes keep folded down boxes in there (by different sizes) or any other thing I don't have room for but that needs protection.

Don't think of it as buying it back. Think of it as they're paying you a finder's fee for your troubles and your honesty. Ever see a poster for a lost dog with a reward listed? Same thing.

Hmmm......I can't see it as the same thing at all.  Legally or morally.   But I wouldn't take money to return an item to the I rightful owner.  Just me.  Call it karma or whatever.

Anything on the Nutone?

Negative. I'm prepared to sit on that one for a while.
