I sold off a good amount of scrap silver lately before prices started to fall.

With the sudden drop just curious if you guys are holding waiting for it to bounce back or for long term or selling now while prices are high?

Obviously prices now aren't near an all time high not even close but just seems wierd job numbers come out worse, inflation is bad, etc all things which shoudl make it go higher and it falls fast.

I was watching Kudlow the other week and a guy was warning people about buying and mentioned some crash back in the 80's or so. I'm too young to remember that but it got me thinking, I wound up selling about half of the silver I was holding

Flea Markets / Do you prefer indoor or outdoor flea markets?
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:56:03 AM »
Which do you prefer? In my we have a few indoor ones that are really large and have great crowds but its' such a pain having to unload all your stuff and bring it inside through the same entrance 100 other people are trying to bring crap in through.

I like the outdoor in that you can just pull up your truck to your spot and your good.

Craigslist / Do you barter on craigslist?
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:49:02 AM »
Do you guys barter on craigslist at all? I love the concept and love bartering and if you find reasonable people it's a great deal for both parties as normally both of you have items that no longer interest you however are of great interest to the other person so you get a new toy or somethign you need and your really not losing out on anything.

I used to make beanbag toss games and barter them on cl. Would normally trade for tickets to sporting events. My games cost me about $14 in supplies and could normally trade for 4 tickets to a sporting event. It was a good deal as my games didn't cost me very much and mos tof the people I bartered with had season tickets throughtheir company that would have gone to waste anyway and they didn't pay for so good deal for both sides. Tickets are also easy to resell if I wanted cash or I'm a sports fan so always up to go to a game.

I was at a pawn shop in one of the Chicago burbs the other day, turns out they were filming pawn queens while I was there.

They obviously were't just filming random drop in's though, I had seen on CL a few weeks earlier a post about "Do you have something interesting you want to sell?" "Would you like to be on tv?" "A popular television show is looking..." blah blah blah so basically they had everything all set up prior to filming.

Ran out to a few auctions this morning. One unit was probaby about a 10x15 was full of those yellow bags of rock salt. Were talking the whole unit over waist deep in bags of rock salt.

Cannot fathom what the person was storing this for. Unit wound up going for $85. What a pain that must be to unload unless you have a heavy duty truck, I imagine most cars or smaller trucks would be scraping tailpipes even only being a 1/4 loaded.

Other Forms of Selling / Anyone have any experience selling purses?
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:39:34 AM »
Just curious if anyone here has ever sold purses at flea markets or online or anywhere?

I recently came across a source where I can buy purses for like very cheap. The place sells designer knockoffs but I don't want any legal trouble so would stick to the non bootleg purses and the designer inspired bags.

Anyhow, figure at the price I can get them at no way I cannot make a buck. Just curious if anyone has sold purses. Do they sell well, what do you get for the average purse, etc.

I normally don't have much good to say about ebay but I actually like it. Sure it was actually a fee hike but it actually kind of suits my selling style and my mindset about ebay.

I'm cheap so I always hate listing something for paying a few bucks and then not having it sell. Profit margins on ebay acn be so think having to relist once or a few times can start cutting into profits on some items.

With the new fee structure we pay higher FVF fees and fvf on shipping however listing fee is free and so is buy it now.

I tend to do a lot of 0.99 cent start auctions even for good items and sometimes wind up giving stuff away. Sure I'd prob be better off listing for higher prices and getting hit with more fees for items that dont sell but just never really wroked that way.

With the new fee structure I just listed a baseball blogve that I probably in the past would have sold for 0.99 cents and let the auction run its course but listed it for a few bucks with a $25 buy it now. Someone bought it now day 1 so didn't have to wait for the auction to run its course and got 4-5 times what I would have gotten my old way of listing.

Picked up a small unit on my lunchbreak today...lol...I got a solid wood headboard and a few other thigns but have a ton of license plates.

I know people often hang them in their garage but normally they are their old plates from places they lived.

Wondering if there's any market for random license plates? Do they sell at flea markets, garage sales, etc? I see them on ebay but its mostly exoctic places or customized plates that seem to sell.

Also, if I do sell them any issues with that? I know personally I probably woudlnt want my old plates out there, who knows if someone does a driveby or robs a bank with them. Any issues with selling them?

Not sure if you guys run into this problem but always have my pockets full with crap and have stuff flying all over the car when I'm going from auction to auction all day long. I picked up one of these bags a while back and love it.

Smaller than a backpack. I also like that it can hang on your hip instead of back so can keep money in there and know it won't get snatched. I keep gloves, hat, flashlight, mp3 player, several locks and keys, smokes, waterbottle, phone and maybe a magazine for when sitting around waiting for auctions.

It's actually meant to be a conceal carry bag and has a concealed pocket with velcro for a velcro holster to keep all that cash safe as well if your in a CCW state.  Also you feel like less of a woman carring a gun bag than a man purse lol.

Anyhow, I really like it, it keeps me organized, is conveneint and keeps me from losing things.

I don't sell these bags nor do I make any kickback from them so nothing to gain, just giving some helpful advice. I used to be an aamazon affiliate so made a whole 3% but they cancelled the program in my state so make nothing. The bags are cheap too  you can pick one up for about $23 on ebay free shipping too. Its a knock off of the maxpedition bag but same quality. You can also buy all types of extra clips and things that can attach to the bag.

I did a review on my site as well as ebay if your interested in taking a look

Just curious how many of you guys out there have smart phones?

Do you use it at the auctions to look up prices of items?

Has it made you lots of money or saved you from losing by looking up a price?

Just curious I finally broke down and bought one after having an ancient flip phone for years. Not just for auctions for other things as well but figured it would come in handy.

I havn't used it much at storage auctions but have used it for other auctions and just general resale purposes.

What made me buy it was I was at a Blockbuster out of business sale the other day and they had tv series on dvd for 99 cents. Sex & The City, Rescue Me, Weeds, etc, etc, etc.
My gf had her iphone with her so I was looking up prices on it.

Flea Markets / How do you price clothing at flea markets?
« on: April 25, 2011, 10:30:02 PM »
Looking for some help in how to price clothing at flea markets.

What woud you charge for tshirts?

Nice but no name brand pants, shorts, etc?

Not high end name brand but womens clothes like bebe, express, forever 21, etc? Tops and or pants or skirts?

I know all this depends on the item and stuff but just want to get a general idea. Or do you not price and just kind of go on a case by case basis and throw out a number and see how people react and go from there?

Also do you normally price your items with tags or no?

What's it Worth?? / In Focus Projector Model 2102 -- WHat's it worth?
« on: April 17, 2011, 08:22:57 PM »
I have an In Focus Projector Model 2102 I'm tryign to get rid of. Trying to figure out a price. It has the carrying case, all directions wires and cords. Don't belive it's ever been used as everything is factory sealed.

I know the price of these things has come down quick in the past few years but was thinking it woudln't be unrealistic to get $350 from it. Had it on craigslist adn no bites really besides maybe one email.

Havn't been posting it religiously but have posted a few times.

I been not wanting to go to ebay as it's a pain, alotta fees and I'm scared of selling anything over $50 on ebay these days. Just curious what I can realistically expect to get. If I gotta go lower than $350 I dont wanna go to low wana get as much as I can. Any other ideas besides ebay and craigslist?

What's it Worth?? / Anyone know anything about Pokemon Cards?
« on: April 17, 2011, 08:16:43 PM »
I think I made a post a while back about Pokemon cards. I finally got around to putting them up on ebay. Had about 1000 cards so broke them into 100 card lots and listed them on ebay.

Didn't know what to describe so took pics of every card, big pain there. Overall doesn't look like they sell on ebay though occasionally there are some very high priced cards sold. I don't have a clue what to look for though.

I got them listed and pics taken now, if anyone knows about them shoot me a message and I'll link you to pics.

The Lounge / Gave up on my quest for junk silver
« on: April 09, 2011, 05:44:43 PM »
I had a post a few weeks back about check for junk silver. Not a bad idea to check coins you find in units as who knows how long they have been sitting there but just not worth it to get them in bulk from the bank just to sort through. They all come from federal reserve so most of the good stuff has been picked out already.

Bought 3k worth of half dollars the other day. Got one pre 1965 half dollar so 90% silver and another 1966 so 40% silver. Just not worth the time.
