First locker, gun and coin collection.
« on: September 25, 2011, 09:21:39 AM »
So after a attending a dozen or so auctions finally bot first unit!  There were a few antiques (bedroom suite and china cabinet)  and I saw a case for a handgun that i could see before bidding.   Won with a $300 bid.  Prob a 10x12 unit, it was packed full.  I could see the unit belonged to a police officer.
The handgun case I could see contained no gun but after digging I found a cheap 380 automatic pistol.   I sold that for 60 bucks.  Also found 2 books of coins and the following:  a few morgan silver dollars, liberty dollar, dozens of kennedy half dollars, buffalo nickels, old pennies and dimes, a book of nickels from the 30's up to the 70's,several british pound notes, a 1950's 5 dollar and 1 dollar bill,  and lots of other coins that i dont know what they are.
Also in the locker was:
Noritake china set, unopened camping gear, beta vcr, bruce lee collection of pics, books, magazines.  Collection of vinyl motown and r&B records from the 70's, a few gold bracelets and jewelry which i dont know if they are real.  2 sets of sterling silver cuff links.  Plus a lot of other miscellaneous stuff.
So I feel like i scored really well on the first locker, I know I cant expect to find such collectibles in future lockers.  Just wanted to share my experience.

Congratulations Hibid on your great lkr purchase !

I also appreciate your feelings on future buys; if my 1 in 50 theory holds true, your next 49 purchases will be average to below average !   ;D

I've yet to see or hear of any such great finds in a locker in my area.  For that to be your first locker you hit payday.  Hope you played the lottery also that day.

Can you post some pictures?  Curious about the coin collection and such.

Well most of those halves are just worth the $.50 from the picture.  The 69 is worth some money since it's 40% silver.  The silver cert is worth a couple of bucks.  The $5 one if in same type condition about $10 or so.  The morgan dollar I can't tell the date so figure $25-30 if in VG-8 at least.  More if in better condtion.  Really have to have them slabbed to get any real money out of them.  The american eagle bullion coin is worth spot price or more depending on the year.  If your not into coins and planning on selling them on ebay LMK.  May be interested in them depending what else you have.  You may want to take them to a coin dealer to see what they will offer you.  Just know depending on the dealer they may low ball you a good 30-50%.

Think you could of gotten more for the .380 but that is still a great find.

As for the furniture item - I have no idea.  If it's solid wood I'd say 150-200 easy w/o doing any research on it.  It also may be more Japan vs China.

Good luck and happy digging.

There are 16 of the half dollars that are 1969 or earlier.  Also lots of dimes, pennies, and nickels.  Some from 1800's.

Looks like you did.

Regarding the .380....I would have paid you 3 times that much.

Edit: whoops...correction...I would have paid you 2x that much knowing I could sell it for $180 !
In my area there is always a demand for guns of any grade and depending on the buyer...I wouldn't sell it
to any pistolero who walked by, but I know some reputables who would buy it from me.  ;D

Yeah but after researching it and finding out it is one of the cheapest pistols ever made (Lorcin) plus not knowing if it even fired, I just wanted to get rid of it.  And a friend wanted it for parts.
