Are CL buyers really nuts or what?

I typically don't give out my number.  I just put up with all the "scammers" via email.  I can just about spot them as soon as they reply to any of my post.  Love the "I'm interested email", then after reply you get "My son/dog/cat just got in a wreck/neutred/tail stepped on, and had to have surgery.  Luckly I just started this amazing job working at home (xyz)....)

I don't mind texting people, calling, or doing email.  Normally end up texting or calling for the last part of the swap.  I just prefer to try and screen some of these wacko's before waste gas.

I've only had 1 person stand me up with no call.  Had a few cancel at last min.  Did have one old guy say he was interested in this vintage fishing machine I had for $50.  He was only a few miles from me so met up in a parking lot.  He ask me to show him how it works, shot the bs for a bit, etc.  He then wanted me to sell it to him for like $5.  I was like your kidding me, no chance of that.  I then watch him leave and turn into the thrift / co-sign shop just down the road.

I put my phone number on CL items. I don't use my cell number as I hardly use my cell phone (mostly for outgoing calls).

In the last two years or so I think I've had 3 or 4 people not show up for appointments. Here's how I try to avoid it.

1) They call me the first time and ask when they could see the item.
2) If it's that day I just make the appt with them (get their number) and I show up. Usually they do to.
3) If they want an appt for the next day, we agree on a time (say 10:00 am) and I get their number and
tell them to call me a half hour before that (9:30 am) to confirm the appt. If they don't call me then, I call them.

I meet them at my permanent storage unit which is 1 mile from my home. I ask what they will be driving so I can watch for them. I often arrive 10" early to get the item out of the locker, or I may be bringing it from my home.

I meet them at the parking lot in front of the facility. I get them through the gate and direct them to where my car is parked by the storage unit.

In my ad I might say something like..."the price quoted here is firm."

One thing I especially ENJOY about my bigger CL items is when I know the "buyer" is coming from 30 to 90 miles away. They are pretty much a captive buyer at that point and seldom do they ask for a lower price (whereas a local might).
I had one item at $300 and I did sell it for $275 because I hadn't had that much interest in it and didn't think coming down $25 on something I had paid $40 for was much of a hit !

Right now I am putting my better "picks" on eBay but if they don't go there after two times out I put them on CL.

This was fun. Got a text right before 9:00 PM. Is item still available? yes, What kind of truck did it come out of? F150, Where is it located?

This is a $150 item.   Will you take $80 for it? NO.

Ended the text LOL

I'm one of those people that prefer texting or emails rather phone calls. For me it has nothing to do with being "scared to talk on the phone", I prefer the written word so that I have a record of the price and other arrangements. Both parties don't always hear and remember the same things. It also helps to keep things straight if you have multiple items listed and multiple people interested.

my ads all have my phone #  along with no texts please , its been my experience if people are to lazy/busy/whatever  to actually get  up and make a phone call ,they are to lazy busy or whatever to come pick the item up

Haven't done much on Craiglist lately till this week and completed 3 sales with no problems at all. Hope to avoid the drama some of you talked about but probably won't. Got some more stuff to put on this weekend and maybe things will keep rolling. Good luck everyone.

I have noticed on other peoples Ad's they spell out the # or use the letter of the # to prevent spam phone calls. When I first saw it thought that looks like a spam, but then others posted why the number was that way. Just an idea.

The thing that has gotten my goat lately, is the ones who are all gung-ho replying to several emails
and maybe a phone call...then BAM! no communication...What gives?...If you decide you don't want it
please just say so...is it really that freaking hard!

A good strategy I have found is doing the option where you list a phone number in the ad leave no emai not even the anon craigslist email. If someone isn't willing to pick up the phone they are not very serious. When listing an email I get dozens of emails expressing interst and never hear back from any of them. Phone everyone for the most part is serious and you can feel out very quickly who isn't

"All hail tax season!"

Ooh yeah!

I detail cars and turning people away! They just can't understand that I don't want to work 12hrs then go do their car or spend my one free day a week working....
Want your car done? Make an appointment, this is what I have open. Done.

I know I am going to jinx myself now that I have posted this....

I spent Friday night and most of Saturday making deliveries from my recent Craigslist sales.  It was unbelievable ---->

1)  Six items - all buyers made appropriate and immediate contact
2)  All agreed to meet within a mile or two from my house (usually Walmart, Home Depot, Target, etc)
3)  All showed up when agreed upon
4)  All paid in green cash money with no dickering, haggling, or hemming/hawwing

The last guy tonight even grew up 20 miles from my hometown - our schools were bitter rivals.  So, I made sure I had his money before I punched him out!!  :o

Someone pinch me.......

Like I tell my weatherman friend, imagine getting paid BIG MONEY for being WRONG 80% of the time!! ;)

Same here today - weather called for 80-90% rain.  Might have sprinkled for 20 seconds a couple times, but the sun was out by 2pm.   Good luck with your CL sales - seems it's been taking a couple re-lists to draw interest, but when potential buyers contact, they do three and four at a time!!
