Have you ever MIS-DIRECTED a NEWBIE ?
« on: December 02, 2012, 09:15:49 AM »
In other words, have you given a NEWBIE wrong directions on how to get to the next auction in a series, or told a NEWBIE that "this facility requires a $100 deposit on each lkr you buy" ?

Would efforts like this scare them off?

I haven't misdirected them in a driving kind of way, but I did have one woman that I had noticed who would ignore everyone until she wanted something from them. She once came up to me all friendly and started asking how I got info for the auctions. I wasn't about to tell her all the work we had done to find the "list", so I just told her I get on the internet and look at various cities classifieds for lien notices and also make phone calls. I don't mind helping people with the little knowledge I "might" have but sometimes they need to do research like we did when we first started. IMHO

I have never given wrong directions or things of that nature.  I have however gave flippant remarks, or ignored questions of a few newbies.  Ones that are nice, respectful, and generally just have questions I don't mind answering.  After all wasn't that long ago I was in that state.  The ones that are loud, rude, etc. get the cold shoulder and no additional help.

I just love telling them "Yes, you have to clean it ALL out - including the roach infested bag of papers in the corner".  Or when I get a newbie that says they wanted to try this out like SW.  I ask them are they afraid of "mice, roaches, ants, snakes, etc."  The brutal honest approach works better then the misdirect.
