« on: November 24, 2011, 07:01:37 PM »I picked up 3 Zebra Thermal Printers for free. I took them home,plugged them in to make sure they powered on. They all did,so I listed them on Ebay,explaining that I had not personaly printed with them,but that they did power on. Sold all three for a profit of $1,075.00
I've done the same. Bought 3 Zebra printers off ebay that all said they did not work for 10 bucks each. The showed up and all 3 had the wrong power supplies as I suspected from the photos.
Went to a buddies store who had the correct voltage/wattage supply to test them on his POS system. They all worked. bought 3 supplies for 5 bucks each on feebay and turned around and sold them for about 1000 bucks as well. However.. I didn't buy any of it in a locker.
best ROI I had was a 50 dollar locker that had a zero turn mower buried in the back. Got 2500 for the mower after 100 bucks in repairs. I saw about a 3 square inch patch of the tire through the crap in the locker.

sure hope there is 4800 bucks worth of other items in there.. unless it's a shelby that car is not worth much regardless of condition.
A car that has been sitting for a few years can have TONS of problems. rusted brakes, bad fluids that eat out metal parts, flat spots on the tires...
Plus the daytona was made until what? the mid 90s all the way back in to the 80's.. that car could have north of 100,000 on it already.

Sold a guy a padlock for 20 bucks at one sale. "can I borrow a lock?" no but I'll sell you one at a premium or you can walk up to the office and risk your unit while your gone.
There is NO love at an auction.

Works ok... Gotta be in the unit right. 4T and smaller always sells quickly for good money as long as it's clean. She will do 4 or 5 outfits per lot. Normally get north of 29.95 with free shipping. we STUFF it (litterally) in to the smallest box we can, and ship the cheapest method possible.
we are clear in the auction that they will likely have to rewash to remove wrinkles from tight packaging. If they want nice, folded ready to ware clothing, we charge 15 bucks shipping.
I sold a load of baseball cards from the late 90's on CL for 100 bucks... first 3 buyers no showed. honestly, most CL buyers are flakes that rarely show up, and when they do they NEVER have enough money.

very common car.. Not worth a whole lot, and if it does not run, it's worth it's weight in scrap.
Facility is not interested in being the paperwork middle man. I'm not really in the mood to deal with it for a car that might fetch 900-1500 on CL.
I fed the title to the shredder and my kid got the keys to play with.

In Minnesota duplicate titles are are always trumped by the original. So if they went to the seller and said hey, we lost the title, get us another one the one I found in the locker would over ride their copy.
The car is not currently registered to the person that rented the locker. it's still registered to the person that sold it to them.
I do not know if the car is abandoned. The unit, and the car are with in miles of my home so I have seen it several times unmoved in the driveway since I found the title.

bought a junk unit for 1 item (high dollar new in box item) the rest of the unit was 99.99% trash. Bought it right, so I am not worried about it.
Only other item I found was a signed and dated title. They owe the state a late fee (bought it six months ago)
But I drove past the address I found on some mail. The car is there.
The title is signed over to no one so I could fill my name in and transfer it then collect my car. I'm likely going to just trash it but I have to wonder. Who now owns the car?
if you find the keys to a safe deposit box and the box number. who owns the contents?

« on: October 30, 2011, 11:10:38 PM »Buddy of mine just sold an old Honda Del Sol on ebay the other day, took $500 up front immediatley through paypal and remainder when car was picked up.
Guy came to get the car, tried renegotiating price after he bid, won and paid a deposit. Didn't have a complain about car nto being described accurately just decided he didn't wanna pay what he bid.
My buddy finally got him to pay full amount guy ran home and opened a paypal claim. Should be easy to prove as they went to currency exchange and my buddy has documentation on title transfer and everything but that really means nothing when your dealing with ebay and or paypal so we'll see what happens. Will report back.
Dollars to doughnuts.. he'll loose the 500..
If they paypal and do local pick up, mail them something, anything, a copy of the auction, with tracking.
You have just preformed a CYA on the "I didn't get it" claim. paypal does not care what you sent them. you sent them something.

That's all you need to worry about and if they don't pay, you don't ship. Once you receive payment and the check or paypal transaction clears, you're Scott free.

The money is not yours for 6 months after the transaction. That is how long someone has to start a charge back with their credit card. Paypal, unless they changed their rules will not fight a charge back, nor will they force the buyer to return the item. Sure, you can take the money out of your paypal account, but when the charge back happens they lock what ever funds are in there. If you don't bring it positive they send the bill collector and ding your credit. They already have your name, address, SSN, Birthdate.. what more do they need?
I learned this the hard way for mid 5 figures amount.

If the records do show it was paid every month and that auctioning it off was truly an error, then the bid winner is not legally entitled to the contents.
This has not happened to me. If it was an error like this, yes I would return the locker for a reasonable fee (50-200 bucks)
However, if it's someones locker who truly was being. to bad so sad.
I'll return certain items. important papers (to them. Stocks/bonds/cash.. no way), medical devices, items that belong to their kids.. That sort of thing. But the Motorcycle, LCD tv and PS3? no way. Never saw them, they where not in the unit that I know of.

Had to? no. Been asked? yes. I have a google voice number (go get one!) it does not ring on any phone I own. But you can leave a voice mail. I give this number to anyone I'd rather not talk to. It allows me to call them back if I want.
How in the hell does the facility owner even know the item was in the locker in the first place?
let um battle it out in court. I HIGHLY doubt the judge would ever side with the person who lost the locker.
if they where not notified of the sale correctly it sucks to be the person in charge at the facility.

Locally here we have a online/live auction company that will do ALL of the dirty work for you. When I hung up my wrench (quit being a mechanic) I loaded the tool box on to a trailer, got a quote from a pawn shop for the whole thing and hauled it out to the action company and told them I wanted what the pawn shop quoted me out of the lot.
He went through the drawers quickly and giggled. I'll get you 3 times that.
Turns out he got 4 times that out of it. his people cleaned everything, snapped photos and handled EVERYTHING, collecting payments, pickup.
I got about 50% of what retail was on the lot. Almost unheard of when it comes to used tools. I made money on a lot of the tools since i bought them on e-bay or used.
The auction house charged the buyers 8% and me 2% I think it was.
Find one of those types in your area. They tend to do large local liquidations. They have the customer base, the staff and the marketing to get you the most $ for it.
Or, watch TV for a while, I suspect a spin off of storage wars will be Hessers auction house
