Stores / Re: Anyone Actually Own a Store?

So the booth has been open for 1 month. So far so good. We sold enough through the booth that netted us $50 after rent, expenses, and the malls cut. Not much but it is a start. I have close to 200 ceramic houses to go over to the booth. I am confirming that my shelves and curios haven't sold and then will take a load over this weekend. I have some homemade glass art that I'll be taking over this weekend as well.

Hoping that this month we do even better!

I'll update that thread but it is going alright. Need more shelving for all these ceramic houses.

Well the dust has settled... We sold more this weekend than our initial investment. As important as that... We cleared out enough space that I have been able to start going through the remaining items. Going to load up a truck full for goodwill this afternoon which clear even more room. Feels good! Especially since there are auctions this weekend and in 2 weeks.

Garage Sales / First garage sale this year!

And it has been VERY successful! I have ~300sqft of stuff sold and I still have today and tomorrow. Finally have been able to get to most of the collectibles and what doesn't sell will go to my booth. It will be a great feeling this week to have my wife park in the garage again. Ohh, and yesterday alone puts me at 3x my investment for the storage auction and put me in the black for 2 regular auctions.

Poorly written 'article' and I disagree with most of it...

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Clothes with Security tags
« on: April 17, 2012, 07:11:42 PM »
You got a 10x10 with a bunch of new (stolen) clothes and your complaining about the auction method? I get it not being exciting but are you in it to make $$ or excitement?

You can buy tag removers on eBay. You could also take them 1 at a time to different stores and gave them removed. You can also remove most with home tools without damaging the clothes - would depend on which ones you are dealing with...

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #4...April, 2012

I went to my first pod auction yesterday. Advertised 8 units 4 were auctioned. There were ~15 people total and maybe 8 groups of bidders.

#1 - $50 looked like big load of trash. 1 particle board dresser, boxes, 1/10 full.
#2 - $650 professionally packed, ~30 boxes, large entertainment center showing, 1/2 full, this is the one I would have wanted. I was really on a info mission although I did have the $ to buy it.
#3 - $725 young white couple with a young son. Corner curio ($50), stained multicolor microfiber couch ($100), lots of boxes, 2/3 full. This was the whole house/apartment probably some good stuff but would be difficult to clear profit.
#4 - $625 train table, BBQ grill, hoses, air hose, misc tools. Looked like it had thoughtfully packed. I quit at $600 - large surface area needed to store before selling and couldn't bring myself to keep going.

I was surprised by this auction. First not many people and prices weren't horrible. If I had cleared more room in the garage, I would have taken one home.

Well thought I would report back after having the booth open for 5 days...

Tags came in but I haven't had time to do anything with them.  Still need to build spreadsheets.  Still need to inventory, clean, and prep items for booth.  Basically I have made 0 progress in clearing inventory and getting more items displayed.

Good news - I have paid for the monthly rent ($200).  I apparently had a set of matching bookcases that were in rough condition priced to low because they sold.  I had put a number of "normal" glass vases out for $5-10 each and had a couple go.  The desk that needs a dark wood pen touch up and is missing a brass knocker handle didn't sell despite a really low price ($35)...

New plan is do home renovations in the morning tomorrow with my dad.  My mom is going going to inventory, clean, and tag items to sell.  Tomorrow evening we will head over and fill up the booth.  I am afraid now that the big book shelves sold, I need to find some more for the shelf space but will assess that tomorrow evening.

So the booth opened on Sunday...  It wasn't quite the "opening" I was hoping for.  Travel for work and a forest fire prevented me from prepping as I had hoped.  I was able to move all of the large furniture and some small simple glass items.  They have a hard close at 5 on Sundays for dealers (not so hard for paying customers as it should be) so I wasn't able to move a number of the mirrors I was hoping to get out.  The tags I ordered ~3 weeks ago and was charged over a week ago still aren't here...  I don't have the spreadsheets set up like I had been planning.  Still have 100+ items to research for pricing, ~40 boxes of items to open, and hundreds of items to inventory, clean, tag, and prepare for the booth...  Hoping the semi-bare shelves from the past weekend will be full at the end of this weekend.

What's it Worth?? / Re: Bride Doll.
« on: April 03, 2012, 06:01:54 PM »
Funny... I have a large number of dolls from my units in January.  I have them set aside for now.  I suspect they aren't very valuable but there are a number of ones that look interesting.  Doll clothes in a shadow box, anniversary new in box barbies, large~18" porcelain dolls, and then a bunch of "old" looking raggety dolls (best guess ~1930-50) that are in pretty rough shape.

Sorry should have been more clear - I have nice televisions but don't pay for cable/satellite. We use netflix and bluerays. So the only time I get to watch is when I travel for work or they come out on Netflix.

If you ever want to see the difference a 'reality' show makes check it out on Netflix. The difference in the cars is obvious... Ford sponsors in some form the original SW show.

Sorry for slow response - I don't have tv at the house and just saw the paintball show. The $1,900 would be full retail on the paintball gear - but it is legit. If it was new with no modifications - I could sell it for $1,400 in a day.

I LOVED seeing Vic - the motorcycle guru - bid like a RETARD and lose all that $ on the scooter.

What do you guys think you could sell this for:

Hard to tell... But I would feel ok bidding up to ~$1,500 for that locker if that is craftsman tool box. If it is snap on - ~$2,500. Hard to tell from pictures. I don't think I would ever by a storage unit online...

Or sell it for the $15 and move on to the next item...
