Craigslist / Re: Are CL buyers really nuts or what?
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:55:52 PM »
Had a lady drive about 15 miles and was pissed off. Got out of her Lincoln navigator, saying I can't believe anybody would drive out here. Looked at the table said not sure how I could get it home. I am not driving out here again !! I said do your seats fold down it will fit in your car. Buyer I can't move it. !!!!

Will you take $85 (asking $125).

NO !!!!!!!!

Need the sale but will burn it before selling to her.

Answer to thread question YES.....

Update:   Will have to eat my words. She called back and asked if we could deliver for the $125.
Less than 5 miles away so sure. LOL   ::)

Wait a minute. "All the way out here" is 5 MILES from where she wanted it delivered to?

We like to repurpose too. Toni takes end tables and makes 4 poster dog beds out of them and I like old windows to make shadow boxes out of. You can google them for images.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that personal items are shoplifted. There are some folks who are getting damn crafty with coupons. An example popped up on my facebook this morning. Suave deodorant for 1.07/stick @ kroger. There is a coupon for .50 off and kroger doubles them so you can buy for .07 each. The kicker? There is none! There's no limit x per customer or transaction so basically you can buy them out if you have enough coupons.

A friend of mine from high schools girlfriend is going to school me on how she does it but she constantly posts pictures of her CVS/Walgreens/Rite Aid buys. She'll have a table full of **** and a receipt for some stupid price like $4.13.

My father in law retired from the Marshal service and part of his extra curricular activities was raiding the Nashville Flea (the big one at the fairgrounds). He'd tell us that we don't know him if we see him there. They would go in, buy something from a suspected person and then have it validated onsite. After they were done shopping all the vendors they would sting all of the bootlegging vendors at once and shut the booth down and take everything there. He said every time they raided (maybe twice a year) they would shut down 5 - 10 vendors. So yeah, it happens everywhere and with more items than you would imagine. His group mostly looked for designer items like jackets, purses, jeans, shoes, sunglasses and watches. He said other groups would look for things like rugs, tools, toys, even furniture! A whole other group looked for stolen items. He said at any given time there were at least 25-30 undercover buyers from various agencies running around. He said the biggest give away that someone is bootlegging is that they have a lot of one type of thing like a booth full of designer Coach purses or the sunglass guy with dozens of Ray-Ban and Oakley or cases and cases of Tag watches. The ones selling 3-4 watches and then pans and some jeans and an old lawn chair, they were usually safe.

I'm sure it goes against all morals and money making schema but if it's worth selling, then it's worth taking to the cleaners. I took a pair of slacks the other day, cost me 2.00 and I didn't have to do anything except pick em up and drop em off.

I sometimes wonder if the Goodwills get stuff from the MFR. I've gone to three different ones in my area and found 2 pair of apple bottom jeans at each one. Hard to imagine each one getting two pair donated in the same week at random.

As for their pricing, they have an auction site now (or have had for a while) where they list a lot of the higher end stuff instead of putting it in the stores, so yes, they are checking and are getting smarter.

I found this out when I went in and looked at a Coach purse in their display case. The girl told me it was fake and that all the real ones get listed on their auction site. I told her it was a felony to knowingly sell fake designer goods. She told me to take it up with the attorney general lol. Smartass little wench. So I sent a letter to their corporate with our local attorney general CC'd :)
