Went to a local one with 3 units up for auction. Usually around 10 or 15 people at this location. Today was about 25 with a lot of new faces. Prices were a little on the high end. Although a full unit full of what looked like kids toys went for $60. The surprising one was a HUGE unit that  had 3 air conditioners, a beat up chest freezer, a TV, a broken dresser, about 3 boxes and what looked like 30 quarts of oil. It went for $250 to a newbie. A little high if you ask me.

I've been going to storage auctions in this area for 7 years now and its really surprising that amount of new faces I see each time. They buy 2 or 3, and are never seen again.

North East / How's things in your area?
« on: June 16, 2011, 03:55:17 PM »
I've from South Central PA and things are pretty hectic here. Around the small towns its mostly regulars and 2 to 3 newbies. But when I get close to Harrisburg, or Baltimore MD, the attendance goes from 15 people, to around 150 people. Anything looking better in other parts of PA or MD?

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Cable Boxes

I take stuff like that and it goes on my scrap pile. I am an part time scrapper and that stuff can add up. Light iron is at 12 cents a lb here which is crazy high

What's it Worth?? / Re: Signed Richard Nixon Document
« on: June 03, 2011, 07:15:21 PM »
I was doing a lot of online research on it and it looks to be Auto-pen and not actually from Nixon himself. So more than likely I'll send it to the local auction house and cross my fingers.

What's it Worth?? / Signed Richard Nixon Document
« on: June 02, 2011, 08:04:58 PM »
I got a document that may be signed by Richard Nixon, however I know fakes exist and sometimes the secretarys signed papers. It came in a White House envelope, and also has the Presidential Seal on the document. It is an Armed Forces memorial document. I'm more curious if anybody knows how to tell if it's authentic than a value really. I'll post scans either tonight or tomorrow.

Went to the caravan on Wednesday in central PA. Around 25 lockers total after all was said and done. The first 3 locations were in the same city and about 150 people showed up. But only 5 or 6 bidders the entire time.

The first location had mostly trash lockers and they sold between 70 and 200. The second and third locations were really going to high IMO. One was clearly a hoarder unit, and looked like lots of broken down cardboard and mattresses. Ended up going for I believe $1100. Although one locker had 2 dirt bikes, a riding mower, a snow blower, big screen TV (had a bullet hole in it) and other nice things and went for $2800.

the last 2 locations were outside of the city and the crowd dwindled to around 40 or 50. Dave Hester was in the crowd apparently as I heard somebody bidding "YEPP!".

I did however get one for $10, and a nice one for $135 at the last location. Seems to be getting worse here in central PA

I have off work today and I'll be hitting a caravan up in central PA today. 5 locations and 29 lockers so far. In south central PA things are the usual. I really don't live near any big cities (Baltimore MD being to closest at about 50 miles) so I don't see the surge of newbies as most are reporting.

However there is one guy that showed up a week ago that refused to believe that storage wars and auction hunters may be rigged. Pretty funny

It all started with the auction houses for me. Around 2003 or so I was buying records and video game systems at auction houses to sell on ebay. I was at an auction that advertised "records bought out of a storage unit" one day. I asked around and discovered storage unit auctions around late 2003. I still only do it as a hobby and don't like to drop a lot of money on them because I make much more at auction houses than I do at storage units. Although I'll admit, it is a hell of a lot of fun.

It's a little crazy here in PA too. The tornado siren at the local firehall was my alarm this morning.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Bought 3 units today
« on: April 08, 2011, 07:36:30 PM »
Went to a local storage facility today. About 9 lockers I believe were up for auction. Around 25 people there with only a few newbies. Most went for pretty cheap. Although the full ones went pretty high (the newbie bought it. even admitted it was his first and he did it because the TV shows). I bought one for $20, one for $15 and the last one for $10.

the first cost me $20. Not much in there that I could see, but I saw a box of wire and I knew I could scrap that for a good price. I was sorting through the boxes and found a grocery bag full of money (change). After I got it home it was $38.87 cents worth of pennies and dimes!

The second had mostly clothes in (which I just took to the goodwill) but I also found a console TV (which I'll scrap for copper), a TON of new blue jeans (size 52W).

The third was only $10 but it had a iron refrigerator cart in it. A junk dresser, lots of kids clothes, and a box of brass faucets. Which I may scrap them if they don't sell. Brass is at $1.95 a lb here. All in all I was pretty happy with my haul

Hey guys, send that list of records my way! Anyways. most well respected record collectors use goldmine. So here is a good way to determine

Also, most records are crap. Not saying that to be mean but its the truth. Perry Como, Andy Williams, Firestone Christmas albums..ect. Are pretty much junk. Also a lot of big band 78's arent worth more than a few cents. However, there are exceptions!

And I use an Numark USB turntable with Adobe Audition to transfer my vinyl to MP3, then to CD. There are cheaper ways to do it, but I found this to be the easiest.

The Lounge / Record and Pro Wrestling Items
« on: March 11, 2011, 04:33:30 PM »
I am an avid record collector & dealer. I also collect pro wrestling memorabilia.

As far as records, I'll buy 45's LP's and 78's. I'll pay depending on condition, title, and artist. I'll pay more for items that I want for my personal collection (new wave, punk, garage).

Also, I'll buy any pro wrestling items I do not currently have. I usually do not buy to sell with those. Videos, figures, magazines, toys, anything pro wrestling related.

eBay / Re: What items have you had -thrown off- eBay....if any?
« on: March 04, 2011, 04:11:46 PM »
I've sold a ton of coins on eBay. Non of them ever came for a storage unit. They all came from circulation or at a regular auction. Anyways, in the last year or so, I had to mention in the description if a coin was ungraded. If I didnt mention it was ungraded, it was pulled.

Yea their prices are outrages. However I do use it for a resource tool. I've never sold to them before. I'm sure they don't pay squat
