No, I was not a math teacher.

I'll probably need to watch the movie to figure it out completely. Don't have a lot of time right now to dig into it. From a brief scan of the search results, one would assume that it has something to do with war games / surveillance / hacking / espionage. I'll go out on a limb and say you were a cracker for the government. And by cracker, I don't mean a Honky.

You should just tell us already. You're a man of too many secrets.

For what I put in post #1 above you are 1/3 of the way there.

A lot of us on this forum like a good quest.  If you are up for a challenge of a different kind, see the thread below:

What business was transacted at Setec Astronomy?

A good detective should be able to unscramble this mystery.

If not, then all Is lost.

Sniper?
Electric chair switch operator?
Administered lethal injections?
Voted Democrat?

The first list was closer than the second, but what I really recommend is an extensive course at the Acme Detective
School....right down the hall from the Acme Anvil Works which is next door to Roadrunner Sneakers.

Craigslist / Re: New Craigslist Feature....benefits sellers

I usually keep an average of 200 listings going on four accounts, so I am not sure why you can't seem to get more than 15 on an account....

I have not tried the new ad linking feature yet, but I was thinking about doing that tomorrow night when I redo a bunch of my ads, just to see if it helps.

So that's 50 listings for each of four accounts?  I don't know either why I get locked out, but it's not a big deal. I couldn't keep track of where 200 items were if I COULD get them listed.

One of the members here (who shall remain nameless) has feedback over 10,000 on eBay and has about 500 listings going as we write. How in the world he keeps track of where those things are I can't imagine, but he does it.  I see him at auctions from time to time and I know who he is locally (and here) but he only knows me from our local auctions.....can't quite explain why I like it that way, but I do.

If I guess will you tell me if I get it right?

1) All of the above.
2) None of the above.

"My sister, my daughter. My sister, my daughter!" (another member here might get that film reference.)

But really, I'm not unproud of my past though I did things for which I wasn't punished, but I don't live in the past and it made me part of what I am today (as is the case for all of us).  I'm just happy where and when I am and hope to be for awhile yet, no matter where that takes me.

I don't know if I've ever asked you this, but what did you do for a living before you got into storage auctions/picking?

You may not have asked, but you have speculated. My response to your assesment was that you got the part right about me doing what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it.

So, there are several possible answers and any of these will do:

1) Only now matters.
2) We dare not tread on the time before auctions and picking.
3) I had no life before auctions and picking.

...you only live once.

And the longer you live (the older you get) the more you will realize that is true.

New ad just came up (about 15 minutes after I posted it). I click on the link to show my other listings and it showed nothing.

I have one other item on that account and it didn't pop up. I have another account with 15 items and they wouldn't come up because apparently this new feature uses one's account number to grab the other listings...when it works.

*****

I used the same phone number in each account item posting and I put a message in each posting saying for viewer to type in that phone number in the search area of cList.  That way they see items from both accounts.

I started a second account because sometimes the first account won't let me post more than 15 items. Another of cList's parameter settings (algorithms) that is only known to them and the creators of the universe.

Craigslist / New Craigslist Feature....benefits sellers
« on: January 11, 2014, 03:32:16 PM »
I just posted a new ad on cList and I think this is a new feature....new to me anyway.
It's a checkbox toward the top of the posting page that essential says "let buyers know about your other sales".

It's like the similar thing at the bottom of eBay sales pages.

Anyway, that new item I posted hasn't be published yet to the public so I can't click on it to see if it works.
I went to the pre-publish page they tell you about and tried to click on the link there, but it didn't show my other items.

*****

Anything they do to promote our sales is great, and for most of us the free listings on cList are just one more way to make a buck.

He's a posting machine....and he won't work for nobody but me.  :D

Well, Travis is partially right anyway. I post for the forum and the readers. And I did have an offer from Storage Treasures including access to all the TV stars for interviews, but I politely declined because it sounded to much like a real job (with potential deadlines) and right now I'm about doing what I want, when I want.

I was thinking that too.......picking must have slowed down and he's on some kind of "paid per post" commission schedule.......just to make ends meet............ :D

Decades ago writers for Saturday Evening Post, etc used to get paid by the word (but they had to be good ones).
If only Travis would cut loose like that !

Nope, I don't enter his contests for a $X.XX gift card. It hasn't come to that yet.

eBay / Stolen items on eBay
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:14:57 AM »
Have you ever gotten an eBay email from a member who claimed YOU were trying to sell something that was stolen from him?

I had a $400 tool on a month or so ago and got an email saying  "Where did you get this and when?"

I thought that was odd. It wasn't quite like saying "How old is this tool?" or "Did you buy this new in the store or are you a 2nd or 3rd owner?".

Maybe I was just paranoid, but it did occur to me that I might have bought a piece of stolen merchandise either at a flea market, yard or even estate sale, but how would ever prove that?  When was the last time you got a recipt for something you bought at a yard sale?

This item came from a piece by piece auction, but though I got a receipt it was only for the amount spent and the date...not the name of the item. Could have been for granny's wheelchair for all the receipt said.

Thoughts ?
