Called It!!!

http://storageauctionforums.com//index.php/topic,2077.msg12847.html#msg12847

Now if you had just bought that metal detector you saw, found the musket used by Blackbeard the pirate and contacted a production company about your idea, you could now be the YUUUUP guy of American Diggers.  ;D

Where do you find the auctions with the smaller crowds?

Sorry, I can't tell you that...it's a trade secret !

 Do they even exist nowadays?

No.  ;D

Spike does it again.

Now it's going to be 4 guys digging for treasure (and I'm sure they'll find it) in their "own backyards".

It's about metal detecting (watch the sales boom for Whites and other detectors). In one still photo they show one of the guys holding up a rusty pistol recently dug up. Probably is the one used by Jesse James or maybe by his assassin !

Here's the link to Spike's promo for the new season featuring a one-hour LIVE show of vaults sold to "invitation only" buyers; I doubt any of us were invited.

Show starts (and continues) on a new night...WEDNESDAYS; guessing this is a gambit to get some audience back from Storage Wars who moved to Tuesdays against AH. So, we're back to being able to watch both shows if we want to.  ;)

Funny how after 28 years luck didn't strike until AFTER he started doing a TV show about storage auctions!  ::)

Yep, certainly possible, but the odds are against it being anything other than a ploy by the producers.

I watched both the new episodes and the blatant "imitation" of the original series still gets me. The characters, the catch phrases, etc. While "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" may be true, this show does such a poor job it's pitiful.  Somehow I can stand the characters on the original show, but these clowns just grate.

Movie....how can you resist with a title of "Puffy in the Sky with Diamonds"  ;D

We watch Top Shot......I like things that go bang better than sparkly things anyway!

Well, the $50K in diamonds was something else. He did say something to the effect that
in doing this biz for 28 years he had never seen anything like that. Maybe if I do it for another 20 years I'll make
a big score like that too. Somehow I think the storage industry hasn't really been in full force that long, but maybe he meant buying and selling in general.

Meanwhile, let the newbies swarm at such offerings.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012....

Two new episodes tonight and I'm not going to review them...or at least that's the plan.

Now if one of the Texicans comes up with another "lookee here what I done found !" I won't be able to resist.

Hammer down lists on craigslist? Haven't seen that. How do u search to even come across auctions on there. Haven't seen any tbh. Not that im looking really. Lol

Well, when in CL for your city (area) just type in "Storage Auctions" and see what pops up. Works for me in California.

"I live in a 1 bedroom apartment on the 18th. floor of the building and I drive a Smart car. How much should I spend on my 1st. locker, a 10 x 30 packed out? Oh, and where can I find the hidden unadvertised storage facilities that all the old timers go to get really great deals in my city?"

"Can I bring my pet monkey with irritable bowl syndrome to the auctions?, thanks."

These two are CLASSICS and should be included in the FAQ for laughs if nothing else....probably is some yahoo who actually fits these criteria !

On a separate note; Are there any other regulars here that cut the chase with a high bid when there are a lot of newbies/lookie-loo’s in the crowd? ;o) Maybe I should be quiet about how to thin out the newbie crowd early when there is a caravan…

Yes, I do and there are others here who also do so.  As to being quiet about it, most readers here already know about it and those who don't learn it quickly at the auctions.

Recently I placed the first bid on a 5 x 10 at $100 and there was only about 8 seconds of "shock" before others came in at $25 jumps asked for by the auctioneer. I didn't bid again. Would have been worth it at $100, but not after that.

Not much to report .... got a couple of auctions coming up mid week, but supposed to be pouring rain, and if crowds are still big, what's the point of going.

More and more of the regular buyers in my area are foregoing auctions altogether until crowds go down a bit. People are buying 1 a month (and paying for it) rather than wasting time going to over-crowded auctions, wasting time and not buying any.

SOMEDAY, the crowds have to start getting smaller, but when that is, is anyone's guess.

Meanwhile, did well at flea on Sat the 10th and bought some good tools on Sunday the 11th which should do well on eBay. Picking still doing well for me.

How bout just sticky a thread at the top of this forum and we can answer them at our leisure here.

I think the FAQ idea is better. Once the 10 to 15 questions are well defined by Drew, he would simply make the thread of FAQ and put answers there with them. In my opinion, the thread could be "locked" after the FAQ and answers are posted and if people persist in asking those same questions in new threads it would be a simple matter to simply refer them to that FAQ thread. This would eliminate a lot of duplication.

If a newbie comes up with a question we haven't thought of it could be added to the FAQ by Drew.

How much money should I take?

Should I take my own locks? If so, how many and why ?

How long do I have to clean out the locker I buy?

Will there be a deposit?  If so, how much is it and why ?

Will my 6 kids be welcome? If not, why not?

Should I shout "Yuuuup" when I want to bid?  If not, why not?

Do I need a truck, van or trailer?

What do I do after I buy a locker ?

Where should I sell the items I get?

How much are dump fees?

How do I go about figuring out the price I want to charge for the items I want to sell?

Should I have a partner? If not, why not?  If so, why so?

Can I make a living at this? I need to clear at least $45,000 a year to pay for all my own stuff.

I doubt that covers all the questions, but Cobia, Craigs...., Rockin' and others will be chiming in too.

100 Bucks?  40 x 40l<

You're right $100 is too much. Make it $50.

Remember that expression "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is" ?

I'm a gambler, but I don't mind letting someone else gamble too. There are always more auctions.

Ouch Rockin - I can feel your pain (member I lost $875 last year).

Craig....

I saw you make one reference to that loss a week or so ago, but I don't remember ever reading anything else about it back in 2011. Can you point me to a thread in which you might have talked about it?  Maybe I could pick up a pointer on what "not" to do. Never stop learning !
