No, I tend to attract units with LOTS of stuffed animals though, and I would have better luck selling beach balls to eskimos then selling those darn things!  :P

Aside from black bags full of clothing, those black bags also seem to contain a lot of stuffed animals.

I guess both are something affordable and "comfort worthy" for certain original buyers.

I haven't really seen a lot of stuffed animals at thrift stores, but the clothing racks are full to overflowing (mostly women's clothing of course).

what did you do buy a carnival?

Even a carnival gives new stuffed animal prizes !

This is a bundle at Goodwill....don't know what they do with them, but they have never offered them
at an auction.

Should be enough to give every forum member (even the non-vocal ones) at least one !

I think the short month screwed up MovieMan's usual starting of the Auction Scene thread.  ;)

March is here and it brings a new round of auctions. Let's get those field reports coming and hopefully most of them will have a positive outcome for our boardies!!

That, and I was actually working on a locker I bought a week ago and "picking" the local fleas, etc.

Thanks for taking care of it !  ;D

It is funny to watch SW and read your posts... If you do this as a business, you should never pay more than you can make money reselling and the same goes for the other guy... There is no such thing as bidding someone up - just bidding what your willing to pay. I am relatively new to the storage auction scene but have been doing auctions and reselling for a decade. The auction houses love me because I will bid on ANYTHING I can make money on. And I bid until I can't make money. I don't care if I am bidding against a 'regular,' a 'whale," or the pregnant widow of 5 children.  If you want it, you have to be willing to pay more than I am...

Sam

PS - I love when someone gets the idea of 'bidding me up.' I don't have any problem with staying at an auction all day bidding 100 times and walking away with nothing while those 'bidding me up' walk out with a substantial bill.

The post quoted above provided a good laugh !   ;D   Logic just went out the window !

Been a month and a few days since the last post here and that's how long it's been since a new episode of SW has appeared.

The waiting is over !

New episode Sunday, March 4th.

Say what?

A bidding matrix=a complex, but efficient algorithm for deciding whether to buy a unit or not.

(most of us use a gut feeling based on what we see and maybe on what we know about the former tenant)

wow!
where i go i could get rid of near all of that in a day 5-15$ a pair

Well, I don't know what he charges, but he is there every flea day and has the same quantity every time. Whether he is selling a bunch and restocking or not I don't know. I would guess he sells maybe a dozen a day, which would only be a row or two of the maybe 50 rows he has.

Today was cold as hell and windy to boot.

Well, it was warmer at 5:30 a.m. when I arrived for my reserved spot, than it was an hour or so later and throughout the next 5 hours...and windy...the wind more a bother than the cold....sort of just nags at you and of course makes you look at every tall item on your tables and jump at every sound even from 50 feet away.  I hate wind.

To boot....I did $170 when looking for $250.

Least your finding some gold Movieman.

This is the first I've found in a long time. Hoping there will be some more in there as the little I found wasn't in a jewelry box per se, but in a little "trinket" box.

A friend who buys a lot of lockers (and was $7K in the hole for about six months) got a lot of gold but 20x the trash to go with it. He finally bailed himself out but hasn't been finding as much gold lately either.

5 a.m. here as I write this....time to go to the flea for selling....can't say my heart is in it this morning.  :(

Since I am increasingly depending on "picking" to fill the gaps between auction buys, I would have to say my iPad.

For making decisions to buy or not to buy it hasn't steered me wrong yet.

Made about $67 after expenses. LOL (Don't cringe Moveman  ;))

Forgot finally sold the $1 set of plates for $2.   ;D ;D

Well, if I made $50 after expenses it would take me 20 Saturdays just to pay off the $1k locker I just bought.
If I made $100 after expenses it would take 10 Saturdays.

So that's either 5 months or 2.5 months just to get even on that lkr if I didn't count eBay/CL. A few CL items in that lkr I'm sure but doubt there will be eBay items.

That's a long haul at those rates. Think I'll stick with the $250 to $350 I've been netting at my flea.  ;D

Movieman that looks like a good one. Would have gone for a higher in price here.

The $1k was high enough for me !  Today I got $20 for scrap metal and $40 for gold for a total of $60...not much but it's a start on knocking down the $1k.

Gold...two 10K necklaces that couldn't have weighed more than a fingernail clipping (maybe less) and a small thin 14K ring. Each batch brought $20.

So, now it begins....the selling.
