eBay / More info about posting pics on eBay and Craigslist
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:08:07 AM »
If you post on these two sales sites as often as I do you probably know about their picture policies.

cList recently stopped allowing the use of HTML script to insert large pictures within the text of an item description.

It was rumored some months ago that eBay would do the same, but that hasn't come to pass and I hope it doesn't. The expression "a single picture is worth a thousand words" is never truer than when selling something.

On Clist you can now post 24 pics using their process; that's up from 12 just a month or so ago.

On eBay you can post 12 pictures using their process. No limit on HTML pics within text (crossing fingers).  ;D

eBay / The eBay/Craigslist connection
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:04:48 AM »
Sometime ago I believe I read that eBay owned 25% of Craigslist. That must have been a nice shot in the arm for the cList creator !

Any other knowlege about this?

Does anyone know the ownership connection between these two ?  This is something I never looked up.
Maybe you have.

PayPal / Does PayPal ever hold your funds for any reason?
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:01:36 AM »
According to RFR PayPal often ties up his funds (doesn't let him pull them out).

Does this happen to you? If so, how often and for what reason?

Personally they've never done that to me. Guess I don't generate enough heat to make it happen.  ;D

PayPal / PayPal....How do you get your funds ?
« on: January 10, 2014, 11:59:59 PM »
If you sell on eBay you use PayPal.

When transferring your funds from sales to yourself which method do you use?

If you use PayPal you know what they are don't you?  Maybe not !

You've got UPS, FedEx, USPS, freight...what do you use and why ?

My best find of late was a swimming pool "cover" which is basically industrial strength bubble wrap.  I got a large ..swimming pool size...piece for $5 at a piece by piece auction. Everyone thought I was nuts, but then they hardly sell on eBay (if at all).

It cuts easily, wraps securely giving hundred of air pockets to protect electronics, cameras, etc.

You?

eBay / Do you sell to countries other than the USA when listing on eBay?
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:40:48 PM »
After we hear from other members I'll give you two Canadian examples and a Croatia example.  ;D

If you sell a lot on eBay you might know the difference between the two.  If not, check this thread over the next few days and let's see who comes up with answer.

I have my feelings about the top seller plus and I'll relate them after other members kick in here with their views.

eBay / What is your "return" policy on eBay ?
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:37:34 PM »
Do you take returns?  If so, what is your feeling about them in general regarding the lost sale, etc.

I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours !  ;D

We've all had problems with this to some extent. What is your take on this cList "problem" ?

Craigslist / Why do people "overpost" on Craigslist ?
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:29:28 PM »
My guess is you know what this means, but if you don't, I'm sure some people will respond to this and fill you in.  ;D

Craigslist / Does anyone have trouble with ghosting on Craigslist?
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:28:24 PM »
If you don't know what this is, you probably haven't experienced it, or maybe you just can't figure out why your ad doesn't show up.

I'll wait until a few people chime in here before I ad my 2 cents.

Craigslist / Posting pics in Craigslist ads
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:26:47 PM »
Maybe 3 or 4 months ago cList stopped allowing the use of most HTML "code" in their listings. I used to put large pics right in with the text but that is no longer allowed.

Now they have recently increased the number of photos you can post using their approach...used to be 12 now it is 24.
That's some good exposure if you can take good pics...especially closeups.

Some people say if you make an ad look to professional people won't buy from you...they might think you are a store as an example.

Well, I always look at what other people are selling when I list an item and I can't believe they take one picture, it's darker than heck and you can't see anything. Compare that to the 10 to 20 or so I use and well, at least mine is more attractive and I'm happy to say sales are keeping me happy.

You ?

I've used HTML to great effect for the entire 10 years I've been on eBay.

It started out because 10 years ago you paid 15 cents for every picture after #1. At 20 pictures that was some change.

So, I put pictures interspersed with the text and had the text below each pic speak directly to what was shown. It might have been features that were good or blemishes that were bad. Best to protect oneself in advance.

*****

Skip ahead a few years. Now there is no need to save money on pics as the 12 they let you load are free.
I used those (they come out good in mobile apps) and I still use pics within text. Once you know how to do it and use a template to boot it doesn't take long.

You ?
