Storage Wars (THE ORIGINAL !)  Tuesday, Jan 3, 2012

Santa Ana, California….

Brandi goes on her own…the vultures are circling.

**

Big D gets one for $3,500 plus. Details later.

Meanwhile Jarrod is knocking down a wall in their store for expansion to the empty store next door.

**

Hester bids against Darrel and big D bids him up and “dumps” it on him.

**

Next one has a SAFE ! (OMG)…..

Bidding is fast and furious among the 4….who gets it?  Brandi…otherwise her beau would kill her !

**
Reveals:

Hester looks at his …. Whoa (he says)….Pachinko machines…and he counts everything up and of course they’re all PRIMO ! Admits he may not break even.

Darrel looks at his $3K plus lkr….scooters, wrought iron patio set, Makita rotary hammer, grinder, tool box (with $250 in tools inside..Harbor Freight ?).  Lawn mower, Coca-Cola (probably worth at least $10K…or for you and me maybe $100 if we’re lucky). Commerical break and when we come back ?   …. Commercial upholstery sewing machine…(I sold one for about $350 once..he thinks $1500).

Darrel’s Coke stuff…valued at …. Incredible prices per bottle.

Brandi’s: Safe contains:  NADA ! (and they destroyed the safe)…lkr cost $2600 and valued at ??? (undetermined, but maybe not break even…maybe a loss.)

On to show #2 for tonight.

I But I often wonder how the people who do this for a living make a living, and, in my mind, the numbers don't add up.

Did you forget to factor in that $5K a month some of us receive from having won the lottery ?  ;D

I like the old look...resistant to change sometimes.

Speed seems a little faster, but I had no complaints before though I know some users did.

Suggestion Center / Re: Forum Should Be Faster Now
« on: January 03, 2012, 03:40:36 PM »
I had the forum moved to a new host/server. Things should be a lot quicker for those of you who were having any difficulties. Please let me know if you have any problems!

Thanks!

Pretty much same speed for me; maybe a tad faster.

So Movie the auction was actually at the house itself ??  If so cool deal...

Yep, this was in Oct, 2009...1 year before the tv shows. Who knows what crowd would be today...and it was one of the big 4 auctioneers in my area.

The former tenant had even left the dog behind....neighbors had to rescue it !

Never got full story on the abandonment...didn't feel like asking him, but it was a rental he had been in for MANY years. Fell on hard times and they carried him as long as they could I guess. If he took anything with him it had to be small and portable as it was essentially a full household.

The most I've spent was $2,900. It was for a house-full (literallly) of goods.

The 3 bedroom house was abandoned by its occupants and when only 6 of us showed up for this auction I was fairly hopeful of getting it for a grand or so, but one of the people there was on the phone with someone (probably content owners) and they took it up.

The house was 3 bedrooms and 2 car garage. The car in the garage and one in the side yard were not included. This "locker" came out good, doubling the money spent. I kept the 60" big screen tv and have it on now as I type this on laptop in the living room.

The former contents owner actually came by at my flea market booth and was giving me advice about the 3 saddles I had for sale from his garage. I didn't know he was the owner at the time until a couple of days later he came by the house and made himself known to me...he created no problems and bought back a Wii console and some other stuff.
He was computer fan too and had 3 great desktop computers (one of which I kept) as well as lot of other "man" stuff.

Good "locker"...took me a week to clean out by myself.

Well, I won't go into that much detail, but after today' flea market my year end is looking like this:

I am sitting at 1.82 times the money; so for every $1,000 I spent I brought in $1,820. Not the "double" I aim for, but it will have to do.

Of course, I still have inventory left over from lockers and individual items bought in the last couple of months. I'm never in a hurry to turn something over just to get quick cash and this model has served me well over the years.

A couple of days and we'll be back attending auctions again and here's hoping everyone has a great year of buying and selling !

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: small locker but scored a little
« on: December 30, 2011, 10:54:31 PM »
Sometimes the legal notices say something to the effect that the management can pull a locker from the auction AND that they reserve the right to bid...and it sometimes happens.

All in all I'd say you did well to get it at that price, and I suspect if you had balked he would have been stuck with it for next time. As it is it didn't cost you much for what looks like a good return.

It's been my experience that they commonly want three people at an auction to make it fly, but two would do it and I once was there with two guys who were together (so three of us I guess).

I let them have the first one for 10 bucks...big 10 x 30 with some lumber and other stuff I didn't want. They let me have the 2nd one for $10...a 10 x 10 packed all the way around...had some good stuff and I think two dump runs.

The third one was the winner with a lot of good stuff showing. They were at $180 and I went $200 and they folded...haven't seen them since. I remember that one as one of the 1 in 50 that I call a real winner. I believe I did $1,500 profit on it and it was all small stuff.

We paid $4600 for a 20x30 that was packed from front to back and from floor to ceiling with stuff.

Overall we almost tripled the money we spent but it was a living HELL moving separating and selling it all off....

In addition to whatever answers you get here, there are several in this thread as well.

My last auction report of 2011....

Went to an auction today where they pull out piece by piece. Had about 13 lkrs. Only 1 had really good stuff and then only about 5 good items among the usual, bags and boxes of clothes, particle board, old (creme colored) computers, etc.

I bought one box for $20...might pay for itself, maybe a little extra.

Took hours to do and I left with 2 lkrs left....my friend says the odds are the same for any of them being as good as the others were, or of course better or worse. If I lost a winner by not staying I will buy my friend breakfast !

If you can be sure of one thing in this business, it is this (IMHO)...there will be more junk lkrs than there will be good lkrs.

Hmmmmm to Survive and Grow and for the site to be what I would think the owner wants he will want this resolved.

I'm sure Drew will contact you if he feels he needs help, in the meantime as I suggested, why not...as a show of good faith...contact him. He probably would be more in tune to personal messages he receives than posts which are made.

Lockerfreq...

My concern was with your statement that  if this forum was to SURVIVE it would need to get its act together in the speed department.

I felt this was harsh considering you hadn't been around very long (hence, the one post statement as a measure of time involved).

The fact is (imho) that this forum will last despite whatever difficulties it may have from time to time, and that it would survive without you or I regardless of how many posts either of us has.

Is the chest-puffing over ?

Lockerfreq....

You have a lot to say, that's for sure. Now if only it was useful to the forum.  Guessing you won't be here very long but if you are that's fine too.

As to the forum being slow and a couple of the regular members chiming in that it is slow for them too, I have to say that at least at my end of the line it's still coming up at a reasonable speed. I don't have any 30 second load times. These did exist for everyone a month or more ago, but not since Drew made some changes.

Why not drop him a private message and offer your help. That would truly be a contribution to the forum.  ;)
