Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 11.....November, 2011
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:26:10 PM »
Got one today...an 8 x 15...paid $400.

Looked OK when I bid, but looking not so good now. Guess I didn't look carefully enough at the quality and overestimated the number of boxes with the small stuff I like.

Hopefully will be a break even or maybe a little profit....working 4 nothin'...and the chicks AREN'T free.  :o

Well, it's Wednesday the 16th of Nov, 2011 and the Today show ran this piece today.

It did NOT contain any info (to speak of) on the pirate treasure.

It did contain old clips of the SW show (little person on stilts) and some interviews with Brandi and Barry, Darrell, (Dave somewhat silent).

The person who put together the piece had laryngitis so THAT may have been why the piece was pulled on Tuesday the 15th.

All in all it was a well-done piece, but look for new NEWBIES to be coming out again based on this...and more members here at the forum !  ;)

You can see the video here:

Would not here from me again if was me......  ;D
Just Kidding.

I would send each of the 1,949 members here (which excludes me as the 1,950th member) a PayPal payment of $25 so they could buy an auction list. For 1,900 of those people it would be the most profit they would make in this biz !  ;)

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: How many show up vs how many buy
« on: November 16, 2011, 09:34:09 AM »
Go to one (or more) and find out. It will be a nice outing from your rural area.

Needless to say there are almost always 2 to 5 times as many people as there are lockers available, and of those people maybe only 1 in 5 will bid at all, hence the name "lookey-loos".

Oh, that it had been one of us !

Maybe next time.

Old enough to know better !

I looked on the web The Today show... Nothing... Searched like 5 times... Nothing.
May not be true... Just boosting the ratings for their show... Hate to see the damage this has caused for ratings...

Well, the Today show wouldn't have run the promo within the morning broadcasting...saying "coming up" if they didn't intend to run it...not just hype for the show.  No, I'm thinking they just decided to give more time to a story like Penn State Paterno or something else; that, or some legality crept in...maybe the doubloon owner creating a fuss.

We'll probably get an answer one way or the other over the next couple of days. On Wednesday they may mention something about it (or even run it).

Two NEW episodes tonight, Tuesday, Nov 15, 2011....

The crew is up to their usual antics....nothing terribly memorable in either show.

Jarrod goes head to head with Darrel over 4 lockers previously owned by the the same owner. J...gets 3, D gets 1....tune in to reruns for the final results.

********

The UNUSUAL thing tonight was the SW guys were directly up against Auction Hunters on another channel.
AH was offering a $50,000 prize of some kind...guess they thought that would pull people from SW to their side.

Tell you what...if any member here actually wins that money they can send each of the current members here a PayPal payment of $25....share the goodies !  ;D

Vehicles at Storage Auctions / Re: motorcycle or cars in lockers
« on: November 15, 2011, 04:51:42 PM »
Use search again and type in "Honda Quad".  That will bring up a number of threads where I talk about that item which I got in a pod. It also deals with lien sales of vehicles and what it takes to get them cleared with dmv.

To answer your specific question about someone questioning whether a vehicle actually came from a locker, I think it is a stretch to think it happens very often (they claim it was stolen).

You could take a picture of it in the locker; yes, I know someone could say "you stole it then you put it in the lkr," but very unlikely.

Here's an idea. Buy a locker first and if it has a car or other vehicle in it, deal with it then.  ;D

Did anyone actually SEE this feature?

I Tivoed the whole thing and all I saw was a promo piece at the 8 a.m. hour (Pacific time) for it to be "coming up".

I didn't see it during that half-hour, and it is now 7 minutes until 9 my time and it hasn't run yet.

If any of you saw it then the only thing I can think is that my local station might have taken a few minutes of extra time for themselves at the 8:25 break for local news AND COMMERCIALS !

I am also Tivoing from 9 a.m. my time to noon.  My station puts Regis on from 9 to 10 and then Hoda and Kathy Lee (hate them) come on from 10 to 11. Can't imagine they would have the feature, but maybe.

Also, maybe there were legal considerations or the feed from the west coast just plain failed somehow.

Let me know if YOU saw it.

This is by no means a definitve breakdown, but a glance at a typical week for me when I attend an auction and get a unit.

Those figures look pretty accurate to me !

If you portray yourself not willing to work hard for the payoff, you will get a reaction.

Hence MY reaction to his and other similar posts.

lmfao.

dont mind movieman, he is a good guy :)

How will people who post like Todd (the questions he asked) survive the actual bidding process, winning and working with all the acquired stuff if they can't even take the effort to so some research on their own?

My prediction is that Todd (and anyone else) who takes a similar approach won't be here 6 months from now....maybe even 3 months from now. Sorry Todd, that's just the reality in my opinion.  Do a member search for a member named "Momonamission" as an example. There are plenty of others in the same boat.

If I'm wrong, more power to you, but if I'm not wrong....oh well.

I have some few questions to ask you.

1)  Is it required for it to be a public notice in the paper provided by that storage unit?

I looked in every local paper and nada.  I was like  :-\

Wow, you looked in every local paper ? How many TIMES did you look?

Look every day for three months, then report back here what you found !

2) Where can i get a complete listing online for free without all the do this and that, jump a couple of hoops then pay a little bit bs?

Double Wow ! You really DO want it handed to you on a silver platter!

where else can i look?

You could TRY the SEARCH button at the top of this page. Of course you will get quite
a few responses and you would have to READ them
???

3) I was going to ask about the locks on the storage during auction day but I have found my answer on that one.

YIPPEE !

thanks!  ;D

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: 500K in Pirate treasure
« on: November 14, 2011, 05:08:40 PM »
Even though this is not good for anyone who buys lockers to make a living, dont stories like this make the hunt all that more enticing?

Not for professional buyers it doesn't, and the rest are foolhardy if they think they'll even come close to that kind of score.

Something similar to people playing the lottery. The few that win keep the rest of'em buying!

Again, anyone with half a brain won't buy a lottery ticket just because there's a chance of winning. The odds of winning more than a few dollars in a lottery are astronomical. I imagine that's why the "numbers" racket was once seen as a scam run by the mob.
