Why on earth would you trust the information provided by someone who is trying to sell you something?

That's like relying on the claim of the the used car salesman that the engine is sound.

This is amazingly funny !      ;D

Hey guys... Wish I was experiencing your small crowds.

Well, you just ran into ONE of the two realities of our biz in July, 2011.

1) The crowds are going to be here for a while yet....what with BOTH TV shows starting new episodes in about 10 days.

2) You will see more lockers than you will ever buy (a good thing I think).

...on July 19, 2011 just one day before Storage Wars.

Great, here we go again breeding NEW generation of NEWBIES !

Here's a link to an article about the dynamic duo.

Went to an auction yesterday with 8 units, had 25 registered bidders and about 35 people total.

In my area 2 of the 4 major auctioneers throw a hissy fit if you don't sign in. Example: "How is it that everyone says they've signed in, but I count 24 and only 15 have signed in?"  This guy is an a**hole deluxe and other is about the same.

The first guy says..."It's the law; you have to sign in". I say..."Baloney".

In reply #9 above I said that CALCULATED shipping was ALL I used. Should have said that as it relates to using UPS.

I also use USPS priority mail and flat rates boxes through USPS for some items. Sometimes it is better than using UPS depending on the item.

I use USPS media mail a lot too for books and magazines.  Speciality magazines do well on eBay as they are often not on newstands, and of course mags from past years, 70's 80's etc sell well and can only be found at places like eBay.... media mail gets them to the buyer.

There is a season two photo area at A&E for Storage Wars, the link is below.

Also there is a video preview that's a bit harder to find. It shows Barry finding some guitars appraised at $5,500.

No indication of where these  pics/video were taken.

The CA/TX situation is still a mystery at this point.

Ok it sounds like the new Storage Wars Dallas is a diiferent show. The characters include several ladies, A Black guy, and a couple of cowboys. The Auctioneer is a Texas Cowboy right out of Texas, They did their first one at American Harbor Storage in Oak Cliff. This version of the show has nothing to do with the CA show. They will be running Both of them!!!!

Well, I'm starting to have some problems believing what I'm hearing about Storage Wars Dallas and will wait till the 20th to see what actually happens.

I'm wondering if the show being talked about by bigbuygal is in fact SOME OTHER SERIES as there have been rumors about NEW shows coming out, but as I just said, I can WAIT 12 days to find out when A&E's show pops up.

I find it hard to believe there would be Storage Wars (California) and Storage Wars Texas, but I've been wrong before, so no news there.

The Lounge / Whisker Wars ?
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:54:41 PM »
Now they've gone too far !

Whisker Wars pits a bunch of guys competing for the title of best beard.

As my dear old granny used to say..."Now I've seen it all; take me out and bury me decent."

J Honda....

Everything I had read a month or so ago indicated they were coming to the Dallas area and my bet was that a new set of buyers would be recruited. Just didn't make sense to have southern CA buyers doing biz that many miles away.

The recent promo on A&E shows the old crew looking like they were gunfighters getting ready for a shootout (with a holstered flashlight as a weapon) and then a tumbleweed blows through the storage lkr street. "That was weird" says one of the guys, then offscreen narrator gives date for first episode.

Take a look at bigbuygal's link above....she has what looks like reliable info on the July 20 start-up.

Well, in addition to quoting me in reply #4 above, bigbuygal also started an informative thread about some news she has on the new SW season. Here's the link to her thread:

Will be interesting to see that first episode considering the A&E promo for the new season shows the OLD crew from the southern CA area.

Thanks for the calculated shipping info and lesson on weight.  i guess I box the item, then measure it and weight it then apply the info. got it!

by the way how did you find my profile?  again, that was pretty crafty Movieman!!!!

You're welcome and all that comes with just plain doing it too; I'm sure there are tricks I don't know.

As to the finding of your profile I'll try to tell a quick "movie" story.

Paul Newman as a pool hustler is told by a young man he trains...."You taught me everything I know."

Newman replies, "Yes, but I didn't teach you everything 'I' know".

Don't fuss about the detective work...concentrate on your new ambitions.  ;D

J Honda...

A fun pic and saw your boys as well. Keep up the good work for all involved in your family's well-being. Hard work is what does it.

Look into calculated shipping. That's ALL I use.  I measure and weigh my item when creating the ad. If it measures 10 x 12 x 20 I add an inch in all directions. If it weighs out at 9 pounds I might call it 11. This gives you some leeway and protection and will not kill the buyer either. Learn about DWT...that's dimensional weight. If an item is oversized you had better acccount for that or you will REALLY lose money. I had an item that weighed out at 21 pounds, but because of its dimensions, DWT came in to play and the buyer was paying for 41 pounds. Can you imagine how much of that would have come out of my pocket if I hadn't known and accounted for it when creating the ad?

Keep at it...learn and prosper.

I started out liking AH better than SW, but have now reversed that. AH is just too set up for me. The episode that turned me was with 4 lkrs at the site, they got two. One had the quad and the other had the little boat. Nope, can't buy that.

SW on the other hand has gotten a little more realistic with people losing money sometimes...Barry frequently.

I thought with the show going to new states that the whole buying crew would be new, but preview shows the regulars. The Las Vegas episodes were a stretch...4 hour drive from LA.  If they are in Texas, how does them buying lkrs fly at all. Only a couple of weeks to the answer.
