The Treasure Chest / Re: Safes and what they contain
« on: June 02, 2011, 10:01:26 PM »
Got one today; paid accordingly for 10 x 10 lkr and am comfortable with other items paying for lkr and making some money....safe will be gravy.

Will follow suggestions from a variety of forum users regarding this brand.

Here's the Sentry link for getting combination/keys.

https://www.sentrysafe.com/CustomerCare/Lost_Your_Combination

You can download it online; print it, get it filled out, notarized and you can even fax it back to them, making it only an hour or so task (faster than snail mail).  If you just get combination, it's $20; keys (2) provided for an additional $15.

My safe only used a combination (rotary dial).  Chances are pretty good I think that most users won't change the combination, but we'll see.

Storage Auctioneers / Re: Banning a bidder from an auction ?
« on: June 01, 2011, 07:34:39 PM »
Sorry for the lack of notice, but the Judge Judy episode that has the buyer suing the auctioneer for banning him from his auctions airs today.  It has already been shown back east but us in the west won't see it until 4:30.  I think it is already up on YouTube though if you missed it.  I'll be back after I watch it.

It's 5:30 here west coast...and you're not back!  Hope the judge didn't come after you.

Anyway, I watched it and seemed much ado about nothing. I think both the people involved should have known
that the auctioneer can't keep someone from coming to an auction, BUT the facility could do that...since it is their property and if they don't want you on it....for whatever reason...that's it.

The judge said the guy couldn't sue the auctioneer for loss of income because the auctioneer had no right to ban him from the auction.

jross and gravell...

Thanks for your thoughts!  It sold (twice) within half an hour...first time was $400....there was a misunderstanding about it and it went up again. This time went for $325. NOTE: the guy who bought it the first time WAS BIDDING the 2nd time but stopped at $300...I think this was a "flaky" deal. See more details on that transaction at the lookey loos #5...May, 2011 thread.

Anyone else feel free to tell what you would have paid. The first two posters here were off each other by a fair amount.

What's it Worth?? / What would YOU have paid for this 70s Pontiac ?
« on: June 01, 2011, 09:35:29 AM »
I'm not a "car guy" so I don't bid on these, but I'm wondering what any of the bidders here would have paid for this 1970's Pontiac with NO ENGINE. Interior OK, forgot to look at transmission type.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Lookey Loos Part 6.....June, 2011
« on: May 31, 2011, 11:41:49 PM »
Another month has rolled around and we're into the 6th month of tracking the crowds and prices of storage auction lockers.

Feel free to add your observations here; in addition to the stats on crowds and prices we're always happy to see some notes (and pics) on what you got if you won a lkr.

Generally speaking, in Central California, I am observing that crowds are going down; with newbies staying away the prices are coming down a bit too. Still some fierce (high) bidding by some regulars against each other as we clamor to get the inventory back up.

3247
Nice lkr, I am jealous, lol. I know what everything is, and you will do real well with this locker. However there is one thing I saw I dont know what it is. The second to last picture, what is that?

That is a kerosene heater. Kero-Sun is the big mfg; I think this one is Dura something, but looks just like a Kero-Sun.
The last one I put on eBay went for $100 plus if I remember correctly. Have to hold on to this until next fall/winter, but it hopefully will pay for 1/3 of lkr expense, so I can live with that...33% of cost covered by one item, and it's one of the reasons I bought this lkr.

The amp and mixer look good too...have to have them checked out. The amp has not been listed on eBay anytime recently; the mixer recently brought just over $200. SO, those two looking good too. Both of those were on the bottom shelves of the two nice shelf units and were not visible from the door...love that kind of find !

Nice to get a GOOD lkr at a good price. Makes it fun again.

7 pm here in California, May 31, 2011....

....and the finale of Auction Hunters (in Texas) is starting....I'll give a play by play but won't reveal all...you can watch a re-run later on Spike! if you have cable or satellite.

----

225 miles north of Dallas....Sorry, TC!

A major world-wide shipping hub....auctioning off 800 containers ! Oh my !

Looking at 20 vaults at a time. 10 minutes to look at 20 units !

#19 they like.....they get it for $575.

-----

On to round #2...another 20 lkrs...how long will it take to do 800 containers?
Yikes....a Browning Citori gun box taped up !
They don't get it !

They get it at......$1,200....gotta have guns !
Now it's 2:30 pm.... the other lkrs aren't looking that good.
Now it's the end of the day.....they spent about $3K for 11 vaults.

-------

China and glass...they like it ! (rare they DON'T like their wins)
Back later with more...commercial now and I need a break from typing.
Lead crystal, vintage toy cars.

On to their best lkr....gun boxes WITH GUNS !  You've GOT to watch this episode!
Handguns, never fired !
Ton loves his job...I would too if I got THAT vault!
They get the pendulum to a grandfather clock another bidder got....care to trade ?

A great finale that made me drool for those guns....alas, I wasn't in TX...TC you should have been there!

Got this 10 x 20 today at a local auction....minimum gas costs and paid $300.

Here's a link to the lookey loos for May, 2011 that describes the auction in general (crowd and prices).

This thread I'll let the pictures do the talking....eating up bandwidth with this, but the server should stand the load!

I like the first two pics the best....haven't looked the items up yet, but they're made in England.

The Invacare above sells used in the $200 range.

The Invacare above used for generating air into bottles sells for $995 in refurbished form; $3500 new.

Ebay shows these coolers in the $85 and up range. That's for new ones. Still, makes me want to try them used on eBay instead of getting $35 each at the flea ! UPDATE: Target has these on sale for $28!

Went to two auctions today by what I would call the "5th" most popular auctioneer in my area. That is, this auctioneer is way down there in the number of auctions done, but TODAY WAS A WINNER !

Tuesday, May 31, 2011.....good crowd good prices !

First auction had 8 units and I struck a blow for normal prices getting a 10 x 20 for $300 and looking very happy with it. I'll post a separate thread with pics later. I was up against a relative newbie who I have seen before and we were only going up by $10s. He was at $260 and I bid $300 and got it. He told me later I didn't have to do that, that he was not going to bid again if I had bid $270, but who knew, and for once the "bigger bid" worked...hasn't worked for months !

The crowd was only 12 people but most of them were big bidders (and my regular crowd) so some sense of "decency" kicked in and several commented there was no point in bumping me up. Favor will be retuned.

A couple of the lkrs didn't sell and one went for $1, another for free. THEN a big 10 x 30 with pretty good looking stuff came up and I would have gone $400 or plus on it, but was letting the other guys go....then it went crazy and sold for $1800. HOWEVER it was on a contingency...the lkr owner had 30 minutes to show up and pay up. We went to the next auction and a phone call revealed that the lrk owner HAD IN FACT SHOWED UP AND PAID UP ! Oh well; I told my friend he should be glad...I think he overpaid by at least $800....just to break even !

Here's the link to the 10 x 20 I got for $300. There are MANY pictures at that thread.

http://storageauctionforums.com/index.php?topic=1254.msg5619#msg5619

On to second auction and exactly the same crowd there. About 3 lkrs...nothing special. One 10 x 10 went for about $275...on the second floor too !  Earlier a 70's Pontiac Firebird (no engine) sold for $400 ..... the only bid. Some confusion though....now we're hearing from the buyer that he thought the auctioneer said something about a 400 block engine...that's funny, because he opened the hood and there was no engine !  Anyway, amazingly the auctioneer let him back out and it was sold again.  HOW STRANGE....the guy who backed out was now bidding again in the $60 range.

I think he KNEW he just paid too much. One of the guys wasn't going to let him get away with that and started bidding him up. ONE PROBLEM. The guy who was bidding him up got stuck with the car for $325. WHAT A MESS. And this was the guy who had bid $1800 on the other lkr earlier in the day.

Quite a day at 2 auctions, and a lot of "entertainment" from just 12 bidders!

3251
I find good stuff all the time, do i spill it out in here? no.
Do i have units that are half way trash, yes.
Do i get units that are totally trash? no.

You said that all reality shows was fake, thats where you came from. And thats where i answerd you.  What do storage auctions find have to do with pwn stars and hardcore pawn??

I have to say, I am confused by your post #9 above, but that's OK you don't need to explain it to me. I will comment though on the last sentence "What do storage auction finds have to do with pwn stars and hardcore pawn??"

I think in general we talk about related subjects and the pawn shows are one of them....the thread is in the "stores" area and some people who buy storage auctions might take some of their items to a pawn for appraisal if nothing else. I think several people have said in a variety of threads that they probably would not sell a storage auction item to a pawn shop because as "resellers" we know that the best bet (profit wise) is for us to sell to the end-user. Sure, once in a while we will sell cheaper to another reseller to clear inventory (or BIG stuff in my case) but generally speaking most of us probably wouldn't sell to a pawn shop.

If nothing else, the pawn shows let us see a variety of merchandise and allow us to get "some" idea about worth.

I won't get into the "fake" or "stage" arena of this thread. I think we all have our ideas about this aspect of the tv shows whether they are pawn or storage related.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: My best unit to date
« on: May 31, 2011, 10:20:54 AM »
I see some of them that will ship it to you, always wanting to charge freight. But wow, never seen one were they will ship it to you and THEY pay for it.

I know, can't remember the details of that shipment; it was about 4 years ago. I just don't remember doing anything with them regarding ME paying for the shipment...giving them credit card info, etc. Maybe they could just absorb that since it couldn't have been more than $15 or so. Anyway, got the package and was happy my friend in Denver didn't have to pick it up in downtown Denver and then go to the trouble of shipping it to me.

lol, thats why most of the stuff I go for in the state of Texas, within a 3 - 4 hour drive from San Antonio. Most I have seen is they want you to come in person to pick up anyway.

Yes, MOST would be picked up locally, but I once got a batch from Denver which they sent me, and as I recall they even paid for it...don't know how that happened, but it was only one box about 18" square.

Lol, I am already one of your direct comps :). Been doing those online govt auctions longer than I have been doing storage auctions.

Be glad you didn't get the 1,000 dozen chain saw files I got. You would have had to drive from TX to CA...shipping them to you would have been VERY EXPENSIVE from a weight standpoint !  ;D

What I find interesting that this thread has been looked at almost 1,800 times, but only has three replies; mine from California (this post) 1 from Georgia and 1 from Washington state.

I guess Floridians don't talk much ?
