Jose is in the Houston area so he has plenty of opportunity to see a lot of auction doors pop open. (just ask Travis)

Just viewing the "bulk" of those units would tell the "real" story I'm sure; wouldn't even have to buy one
to start to get an understanding of the reality.

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Dave Hester Auctions

Movieman, those look like pre-storage auction reality shows prices.

Well, it's certainly true that each of those categories could sell for $250 to $400 more than I stated.

I paid $1200 for a 10 x 10 a month or so ago and I'll be lucky to break even, but I needed some new
items...and it had the benefit of showing a lot of newbies that I mean business. It doesn't matter to me that
some of them thought I was nuts.  Right after I got that one I got a 10 x 10 for $325....when they saw who was bidding they stopped. Average those two out and I'm coming out OK.

CopiaVita's response in #10 above is VERY GOOD ADVICE. I'd read it a couple of times.

One newbie who came around just BEFORE the tv shows has been accepted by the regulars now.
The newest newbies are having to work harder at being accepted, but they are slowly getting there...if they survive
6 months or so, they have proven themselves. A fair number are already gone.

If you are new to auctions, PLEASE don't say "yeppppp" when you bid. It provides a good laugh for the rest of the newbies but only irritates the regulars with a reminder of where you came from and draws unwanted attention to yourself.

Thanks for the help, guys. For those sites, what do I select for the notice type?

A lot of the terminology is out of what I am used to reading, legal wise. I can't really tell what I should be looking for.

Well, I can't speak for Mr. A, but my feeling is that at this point you should do some exploring on your own, otherwise it will be like spoon-feeding.

Work at it a bit and when you earn the results of your work you'll take extra pride in that first accomplishment. Look through the choices (if there are 10 you should be able to rule out 6 or so right off the bat) or just check each one.

I always recommend placing some low bids (maybe at the start of an individual lkr) before it grows too much.

This gives you a chance to see what it feels like to actually speak out or wave your hand. You shouldn't even have to
be too careful if you get in early enough on the bidding for any given locker....chances are it will go right on up and you can just stop bidding.

Gives you a chance to really go for it when the right lkr comes up.

I like any size locker that has good looking (not beat up) boxes and totes, preferably with no large furniture.
In other words, easy pickins...and at a good price.

Now that's a DREAM....(no not THAT kind of dream Travis).

Of course, those kind of lockers go for the following prices in my area:

5x10....................$350 (or so)
10x10..................$650 to $750
10x15..................$650 to $900
10x20...................$750 to $1000

That's why I haven't been buying many lately. If the boxes and totes parts hold true, not much
actually SHOWING....more of a huge gamble than anything else. I liked these even as a gamble when
they were half that price for the size shown above....I would have taken that gamble.

Later in that thread I made a link to the other one I did a little over a year ago.

See reply #17 above.

This is a good example of what these spammers are up to. That one would take you to a malware site
if your anti-virus program didn't catch it.

I take it all to a coin/gold shop which I trust.

I have them look at the stuff that is not that great as jewelry and give me a price.
Before I accept or reject it I then ask about another piece (the best piece and one I have not shown) and
get a price on it to combine with the other.

This way I have some feel for what the scrap value is as opposed to what I might ask as a jewelry piece.
About 25% of the time I keep the best piece and sell it at the flea or on eBay.

As a side note. At my flea market there are 5 guys with "compramos oro y plata" signs. They buy it and then resell it somewhere down the line. This is at a flea market with about 200 or so total vendors. Even the low end flea markets in town have these people buying and selling.

The only platinum I have run into was the two catalytic converters which were stolen from two separate cars about 1 year ago. I guess that's what insurance is for.

Mr. Anderson. I am in North Carolina and the one you posted about Linden, NC is not listed anywhere I checked, but it is going on when I called the place. It is not on auctionzip, storageunitauctionlist, or the other crappy free site I use. Would you mind telling me where you were able to find out that information. I have been doing this as a 2nd job for about 6 months now and still don't feel like I am finding out about a number of the auctions around the Raleigh, NC area. I think it may be easier in some areas then others, or Im just not looking in the right places.

Thanks

Start here and learn the rest as you find the area you want to explore. Can't guarantee you results, but it works all over the country this way.

Rules ?  "We don't need no stinkin' rules !"

And like a speed limit, the ones that exist can be violated by those who choose to do so.
Over time you learn which facilities are more honest than other facilities.
