I'll have to give it a shot.
I have an old mixer I rebuilt and needs paint. Since I'm out of the shop I no longer have easy, daily access to the paint booth.
Maybe I'll try the almond......

Thanks!

Craigslist / Re: Providing Dimensions
« on: July 25, 2013, 08:33:44 AM »
Always, for anything.

I mainly do smalls and take the picture of item next to a tape measure or framers square.
Rims I include lug patter size and link to site on how to measure yours for fit.
Furniture I give outside dimensions plus on drawer size...on chairs, the hieght of seat...tables, circumference....

Still get asked about size.  Seems the more specific I get the more questions I get.
Usually asking questions clearly stated in Ad.
(I once got asked how tall a 6 foot corner lamp was!)

And, I still meet people and get "oh...I didn't realize it was so big/small"

But I figure the more info I give the better ground I stand on when they try to "negotiate" by saying its not what they thought it was.

I know others tht are purposely vague then "sell" the item once they get a meet.  But I'm not a salesman, not my thing to talk people into buying.

Need more info to determine age.   Any hardware?  Screws, nails?
The casters look like they were added or original?
Any markings? Tags? Stamps?

Can't say how much it would be to redo.   Upholstery by itself I could get done for $300-$400 for really nice material, work.   But....that's just upholstery.  Looks like they would need to totally rebuild base, springs.   No clue on cost for that.  We had a old 1940's Ford bench seat rebuilt and it was close to a grand.  Best comparison I have....

Then there is the woodwork.   That's cheap to do yourself but resell will be more if done professionally.
Again, never had that done so don't know cost.

Anyway, without knowing anything about it, just going by pics, I've seen somewhat similar sets sell for $1200+
I think the prices you threw out would be what I'd ask in present condition and negotiate down.

Just don't go sanding on it without doing some research.   You might devalue it.  Just vacuume, pledge or wipe down with damp cloth to show it as-is.

The Lounge / Re: What do you think about the Zimmerman Trial?
« on: July 23, 2013, 12:31:22 AM »
I find it funny the position the ACLU is in now.

They jumped on the band wagon and pushed for the Feds to indict Zimmerman federally.

But.....then they sort of got reminded that they have fought for 20yrs against people being charged federally when they've been found not guilty on a state level, even if the Feds change the charge for the same crime.

Whoops.

What I'd like to know is how come the Stand Your Ground Law is be attacked in the aftermath of all this "in he name of Trayvon" when SYG was never an aspect of the case?

If anything it helped Trayvon and hurt Zimmerman since Trayvon didnt have an obligation to flee.....which in hindsight he probably shoulda used thoe few minutes to walk home instead of waiting for Zimmerman...but ya know, 20/20.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Picking at estate sales
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:50:24 AM »
It's that time of year.  Estate Sales everywhere.
Unfortunatly I haven't picked anything to sell.   Got a few personal items.  House hold stuff, cleaners and what not.  But everything else is near retail.

There was a nice carpet cleaner for $40 but I still have the other one I got.  Tried to go back on 50% off day and it was gone.   Same with a nice stainless lined copper colander. Didnt have markings on who made it. Some of those can be spendy. Was $20 but they sell on ebay for $20. I don't know he difference of $100 ones and $20 ones. Went back on sale day and it was gone.
Sometimes waiting pays off, sometimes not.   But on items like these I'm willing to risk it.

One place had a entire Ethan Allen bedroom set (king bed frame with pillow top mattress, two ends, his/her dressers) that they had the receipts for. Got it last November for just under $6000.   Had it marked $2000.  Sunday was $1000.  End of Sunday it was "get it out of here by 3pm and its yours".
I called every truck rental place in the area and no one had anything available.  Called everyone I knew.
Tried to see if I could put it all in back yard and come back.  Even offered them money to meet me today...
Nothing worked.  They were locking up at three and handing keys to realtor and being done wih it.
I even tried to pay the realtor to meet me.  no good. I imagine he now has a bed room set.

Weird & Wacky Finds / Re: Just when I thought I had seen it all

I'm going with....

It was sitting on something.  They wanted what it was sitting on but couldn't lift TV off.
Tied it to rafters. Pulled item from under.....

Luckily those old camaro's ignition lock cyliders are easy (and cheap) to replace. $50-ish.
Only problem is since you don't have the original key you need to have a special tool to remove.....and by special I mean a hammer

if someone will pay $750 As-Is id grab it.

scrap? Frame is $100.  Catylitic converter $50-75.  Body parts depends on condition.
Is it a T-Top?   If so and seals are good that could be $500 right there.....

I wouldn't have gone that high, partially due to distance.   But would have liked an excuse to go to the island.  It's nice.

Wonder how a girl would take it?

Yeah, I got us a room at a B&B on Camano Island!  Very romantic!  Oh....by the way, we're driving up in  U-Haul and I need your help emptying out a storge unit.  Ohhhh.... Wait untill you try these oysters at Vincent's Oyster Bar!  The best!

I think it would go over okay, right?   ;D

I think it was a wise move.

Little sketchy sounding.   Why was building so empty of retail in first place.
Maybe owner should do some TI and turn it into office space.

Nice. Good luck to you!

To bad this wasn't around last Xmas.   I'd of bought the Angy Bird pics for my nephew!

$8 per tower? Really? I came across 12 servers from the 1990's that someone was throwing away. I knew I should have picked them up.

I read in the scrap forum that pre-1994 electronic parts get a premium price do do the technology back then they needed to use more gold.
...........

Pretty much from what I've read HomeGrown is right.  20-ish cents per pound.   But that's with components out of tower and mixed.    Seperated you can get more.

But I haven't done it.  Just reading forums and different areas have different pried and requirements.

All, to me, sound like a lot of work for little pay if you don't have a lot of equipment to recycle.

"Shall Issue" are states where if you apply for CCP you WILL get it as long as you pass requirement.  In WA, its just a background check and be 21yrs old.
TX its background, gun course and 21 (unless your in the military but that's a stupid point because you need to be in for two years.  Puts you at 20 so your only getting it a year early....I'm not sure but heard they did it for military police.  So guys can leave base without checking in their sidearm)

Other states, like CA, its "May-Issue".  They look at reason you want want it and decide if they like your reason.   So two people, neither with criminal history, both with exact same reason, both have firearm training, want a permit...one may get it, one may not.    There is no standard.  It's totally up to who reviews your application.

So lets say Florida was a May-Issue state.  They could look at Zimmermans app and say no.  Look, you already shot someone or you've been on trial for murder, so what if you were found not guilty.

But since they are a Shall Issue state.....no criminal record?  Your trained? Here ya go.

According to people on scrapmetalforums.com a lot of places only pay around 25-50 cents/lb.
But there are places that pay $2.50-$4.00/lb for the right stuff, mother boards, fingers, certain cell phones.
Looks like its better to seperated out: motherboards in one box, high grade in another, low grade....
Kinda like you wouldn't recycle clean aluminum in same bag as cans or sheets of copper mixed with copper wire.

avc-recycle.blogspot.com/2010/03/maximizing-profits-from-recycling.html

I don't come across enough or have storage space so I'll stick to dropping off whole electronics at donation site.   Plus with breaking it down you still need to get rid of case.

There is a place in Dallas you can call for buy priceing:

Yeah, Florida is a "Shall Issue" state so no reason he can't conceal carry.  Plus they are issued thru the Department of Agriculture so less critical on legal issues.
