Other Forms of Selling / Re: Anyone sell on the Deep Web?
« on: November 27, 2013, 09:34:43 AM »
Interesting, never heard of it, would like to know more.

The deep web is the subject of the Time magazine cover story on November 11, 2013.

Two statements from the story:

1) The web we know...19 terabytes of info....the deep web...7,500 terabytes of info.
It is content not indexed by search engines, including illegal commerce sites like Silk Road,
password protected sites, databases and old websites.

2) Topics of interest:

fake passports, hit men, drugs, explosives, child porn, stolen identities, counterfeit currency, guns, etc.

Given #2 above are we still interested in selling an old lamp there ?

Bitcoins?  A whole other story. They are non-traceable and only have value for buying other things with bitcoins, though I suspect there is a place on the deep web where you can trade bitcoins for real cash...at a discount...giving money laundering a  new role in the 21st century.  A bitcoin's value fluctuates....currently in the $200 plus range.

The deep web?  Possible new home of Storme and Mr. Andersen.  ;D

See my reply to the 2013 version of this question in the link above. My answer is the same for this year.

eBay / Re: Is EBAY super slow lately or is it just me?
« on: November 20, 2013, 08:58:12 PM »
I have listed quite a few new things lately and it seems like no one is buying. Has anyone else noticed a slow down? Craigslist also.

Both venues have improved for me in November. It does seem to come in waves though. The only way to really tell would be to list "x" items in one month and then in the following month (or two) just list the ones that didn't sell the first time around. If they don't sell in subsequent months, then it's the items themselves that are the problem. Of course no one would conduct that kind of experiment .... at least not without adding new items as well each month.  ;D

Storage Auctioneers / Auctioneer loses facilities to other auctioneer
« on: November 20, 2013, 04:06:10 PM »
Of course this happens all the time and sometimes a facility will go through every auctioneer in the arear over the course of a few years, but this one has a little justice to it.

John C had an employee Ryan D who had been with him for years and whom he let go maybe 6 months ago.

Non John C has lost several facilities to the new employer of Ryan D and those companies specifically said they switched because of the BAD MOUTHING that John C had laid out about his former employee.

What a jerk and now a confirmed loser of some accounts.  Oh well, the way NOT to do business.

Here's my educated guess from the little I know about him.

....does what he wants when he wants....

The portion quoted above is correct !  ;D

I got a feeling it is not a Alec Baldwin reference but the original Shadow.  That should give us a little evidence about his age.

Or at least an area of interest !

I didn't see the original screening of The Great Train Robbery (1903) but that doesn't mean I didn't see it later.  A 10 year old who saw the original screening would be about 110 years old today!

Ah, the power to cloud men's minds.

What was the cooking equipment?
I have a some very nice stainless steel stuff and we finally be getting to it this week.  Was just curious what you sold.  Thanks.

These were the kinds of cooking equipment which would used in a bodega/small shop for working with things like hot dogs, condiment applicators, etc.  They were not large scale cooking equipment as used in a full restaurant.

I also saw large scale stainless gear (all 3 x 3 by 5 feet) (three of them) at a piece by piece auction and they had starting prices on them that prevented anyone from bidding on them. They didn't sell and I don't know what happened to them after that.

That does raise some interesting questions. How old is MovieMan? Is he retired? Does he make his living as a picker/storage unit buyer or does he have another source of income? We know so little about him yet he knows everything about us.  Okay, spill the beans MM, inquiring minds want to know.   ;D

The Shadow knows...but he's not talking. If an auction buyer named Lamont Cranston ever shows up on this forum you might find out something, but don't think that will happen either.

OK, I'm back on 5 minutes later and will check the number it shows now.

Then I'll come back in to this post and paste in the number it shows.

********

OK, I'm back in and editing this post. Here is the number after I exited and came back.

75.62.243.104

It is the same number as 10 minutes ago when I signed out completely.  If I understand this issue properly it means
that I have a static ip address, but it belongs to my carrier, not to me.  More research coming up for my own gratification if nothing else.

358
I see that when I am online and when I am looking at a post I made the following address showed up:

75.62.243.104

I am going to sign out then sign back in and see if the same address shows up.

The above number was displayed at 9:13 pm Pacific time.

359
Here are the screen shots of the matching IP addresses. This shows all IP addresses which were used to log into both accounts.

(my insert here to separate the two entries).....movieman

I've never had the need to track anyone's ip address, so Travis could you explain the significance of the the entries you posted (numbers) and explain what each number means. I also notice one set has 4 sets of number and the other has two sets of numbers.  Thanks!
