eBay / Re: Anyone else got a phone call from Ebay recently?

Got the eBay magazine in the mail today and also an email. Both show that if you are a Top-Rated Seller you will not be paying a fee on the postage amount. In order to be a TRS you have to be a power-seller first (as I understand it). Others may have a different understanding.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 4....April, 2011

The crowd here in Memphis is getting smaller and smaller for each week. Todays 4 auctions had maybe at the most 18 people, and alot of them was pairs. So if we say 9 bidding pairs then we are close.  First auction of the day only had like 8 or 9 people.  The last 3/4 weeks in memphis has been really good. we are talkig about 25 or less as a stable number of people.

That's good; hope it stays that way ..... a lot better than 60 to 100 !

What were the prices like ?

See reply #8 for a growing list of the "alphabet" members.

Here's the latest I've found:

qfranklynanderseng

Many of these people have email addresses in the U.K. (United Kingdom).

Another one later in the morning:
This one MAY be legit but has an acne treatment website listed in profile.
When I see half a dozen posts that TRULY relate to auction buying, I have a different view of these folks. Hasn't happened yet.

this one has the aramamotor.net ending for his email. There have been others of this ilk.

Here's another aramator.net joined 4/23/2011...what are the odds of so many using this same (minor) net?

I looked at your website. Do you actually have time to go to storage auctions?

For years I used the big 1 million candlepower lights (fairly bulky) until I started exploring Streamlight and the like.

I found a TrustFire (basically a clone) for $30 plus $10 shipping on eBay. Find it from several vendors and you will get a price like that or similar.

It is 1,000 lumens which is perhaps a better measure than candlepower.
By the way, the little led lights you see for $3 to $5 at places like Harbor Freight and such are 100 lumens. Get the difference between a $3 light and a $40 light? It's substantial.

The TrustFire is rechargeable right in the light. You rotate the shaft and it exposes the female plug for the included power supply that plugs in the wall. Holds charge for a long time.

I have owned the pistol shaped light Alan uses, and it can not compare to a TrustFire or similar light. The small black TrustFire and others that are 1,000 lumens are like the ones the CSI guys use on TV (and in real life). Police officers and other responders use similar lights.

In a dark hallway locker this lights up the back like you wouldn't believe. Put yours in there while someone is using a regular flashlight and you'll be amazed at the difference.

I am NOT a TrustFire seller.

eBay / Re: Anyone else got a phone call from Ebay recently?

I get them about 3 or 4 times a year. But I have a eBay store. They are helpful

I've used eBay for 7 years but have never gotten a call. I know people who have gotten calls.

I don't have a store and haven't been able to justify it. I seem to do ok without a store. I list enough to get powerseller and trusted seller (or whatever it's called) and that helps a bit I think.  I always use start times in late afternoon Pacific time (so east coast users are still able to bid at 9 or 10 their time) and I use large pictures within my text....I think that helps a lot as it is seen (IMHO) as more professional and certainly gives a better view than even th enlarged shots which eBay makes available.

My main compaint with eBay (as of several years ago) is the lack of being able to give a buyer neg feedback. Just doesn't make sense.

You can catch a re-run of the show and take a look at the locker. When they get that high it is scary. I have seen $2,900 (I got that one), $3,100 ( didn't get it...I was in at $3K)....I think those are the highest I've seen. Plenty of $1K to $2K though.

I got a private message asking about the $2900 lkr I got. Actually, it wasn't a lkr, but the entire contents of a 3 bedroom house with 2 car garage and yard full of stuff. Details are here in this link:

Craigslist / Re: Craigslist just got easier!!
« on: April 22, 2011, 10:08:27 AM »
If you learn about html you can post full-sized pictures in your Craigslist listings and since those pics always exist on a server somewhere, they are always available.

The bigger pictures make an impact on the CL listings as people see them as more professional, and they definitely give a better view of your item. This is of course JUST MY OPINION....other people may have other opinions.

CL has been quite slow for me the last couple of months, but it has to be because of the items themselves or what I am asking for them. For the calls I have had, there have been no follow up calls to make an appointment to see the item.
One gal made an appt and THEN called  a day later to say she couldn't make it....that was nice of her !

Since the last posts on this thread in late March, has anyone ACTUALLY used this service?
If so, what's the verdict?

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Hunters is FAKE!!!
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:27:27 AM »

but in my opinion, if it were just random like us, then it wouldnt be much for tv would it?

That's certainly true, but I think the problem is that SOME of the people I've seen showing up at auctions
don't look like they are smart enough to figure out that MOST of the lkrs and MOST of the stuff in them
is just ordinary household stuff, not collectibles or even high-end household products. They either don't read the disclaimer at the start of the AH show or they just ignore it when they see the guys get a quad and a hovercraft back to back at the same facility.

West / Re: SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA!
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:51:15 AM »
Welcome to the forums.

Everything you said in your post above sounds right. I've been hearing this from the cental valley bidders who
make it to the Bay area. With a large population to draw from a bunch of new bidders sounds right, but maybe the crowd trend will slowly go down.
