Some people bring a small folding step stool; others brings a small folding  sitting stool as with 100 potential buyers a sale that could have been done in 30 minutes takes a good hour and half.

Went to 2 auctions today by same auctioneer.

First one had about 60 people and 2nd maybe 80. Prices outrageous as usual..imho.

It varies from site to site, but I have been at auctions where the former owner IS allowed in. Depends on the mgr and how the former owner addresses the issue.

Sometimes they will even be allowed to bid on their old locker. Usually though, that is not the case. Sometimes they will get friends to bid on it for them.

I doubt it was a scam issue, but anything is possible.
I have actually sold back entire units to former owners and I have also sold back specific items.

Once I bought the paperwork and computers of a mortgage broker company. The boxes were clearly labled on the outside as to the year of the documents. Since those papers contain all kinds of info on loan applicants it was a simple matter to get the old owner to BUY BACK the sensitive paper. The biz was still in business and  just got sloppy with their storage.

I've seen several examples of this, and generally these are good lockers. They cared enough to keep paying and paying, but finally circumstances just overcame them.

I tracked a locker for two years once. This guy's locker came up every 3 months and he paid it off everytime for 2 years. Needless to say I was interested. He had spent something like $10,000 on this locker and its companion across the hall. He had the 2 lockers a total of 5 years I think it was (defaulting in the last 2).

Finally, he truly defaulted and I got the best of the two lockers. Two parts to the rest of the story.

Part 1:  I paid $700 and have so far sold $1700 out of the locker with maybe another $300 or so left.

Part 2:  The stuff was pretty ordinary with some exceptions (extra good) but no crap to take to the dump.
        

My question is why would this guy pay 10 grand for stuff he could have replaced for 2 or 3 grand. Doesn't make sense does it.

At some auctions they cut the locks the day of the sale....right when the unit is to be sold. Those are nice to go to since most of the time no one has been in it (bad managers as an example).  But to the point....sometimes when that happens the door flies up and the locker is totally empty or maybe a couple of boxes are there.

The old tenant has moved every thing out....not told the management and then gets his credit crapped on because he gets dunning letters for three months before his complete absence is discovered. Of course with people like that they sometimes have no credit anyway, so what do they care.

Well, since you seem not to have gotten one in today's batch I would guess there will be plenty of others who didn't either and they will all be out again tomorrow (or a few will not but will be replaced by other people).

When that happens in my area I ususally try to find some auctions in a nearby town, but it's a crap shoot. Other people have the same idea.

Could you tell us what state you're in?  Don't worry the chances of anyone here coming out to those auctions is NIL and if they live in your area they already know about them. I'm just trying to get pictures of what it's like in other states and cities. I have a friend who is even thinking of MOVING to a new location...not just for the auctions though.

The Treasure Chest / Anyone else buy an abandoned house contents ?

A year ago I bought the entire contents of a 3 bedroom house....the contents were still IN the house!

These people had even left the dog in the yard, but neighbors fortunately had rescued it.  There is a lot to this story including the fact that one day at the flea market a fellow came up to look at the 3 saddles I had taken from the garage. I thought he was acting a bit odd.  A few days later he showed up at the house as I was emptying it. He didn't cause trouble and I sold back to him a few higher end objects.

I kept the 5' big screen but sold all the associated audio equipment, Wii game etc along with about 200 snow globes, even a half cord of firewood !

I took out 5 computers and kept one of those for myself. All worked. Got the passwords from the old owner when I sold him some of his own goods.

Anyone else have a similar experience ?

I found a giant toy once. It was about 2 feet long and 3" in diameter. Had to call the HazMat team on that one!

At the flea Mkt where I sell a fellow buyer had gotten a new in the box device shaped like "a saddle" with a male member sticking straight up. He sold it to one of the big eBay sellers for $300. When the new owner sold it for $1200 on eBay the original seller said (in effect)..."you give me another hundred or you'll never buy anything from me again."  The new owner coughed it up.

Yep, that's a lot !

Just got back from an auction with 6 lkrs. All went at twice what they should have to make any money.

Going to 2 auctions on Friday, Jan 28th.

There will be 12 lockers at one place and 25 at the next. Probably be less than that, but the crowd size will make up for that. I'll report tomorrow afternoon or Saturday on the crowd and whatever luck I had.
