General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Putting together ideas for an ebook..
« on: October 22, 2013, 05:49:57 PM »
Damn! Well maybe I'll be the Anti-Glendon Cameron.. The Anti-Douche.. Although this guy at the link seems not to be douche-y..

It's over. The storage auction frenzy, the storage auction list frenzy, the YouTube advice videos, the e-books, the blogs, and yes, the blossoming online auctions, though they have to peak before they go away.

It's time for the next big thing.....coffee shops on every corner, yogurt shops on every other corner, box-stores, internet cafes, some new tech gizmo, you name it. All this stuff has its day and then depending on how many people partake, some of them go away.

Craigslist / Re: Porn sent to e-mail addy after placing a C/L ad
« on: October 22, 2013, 02:29:55 PM »
Back in Sept I placed an ad on C/L for a pump I have for sale. The next day I got my first reply to the ad sent to my e-mail addy that I had not posted in the ad. I posted a phone number as a contact.
Instead of being a reply to my ad it was a solicitation for porn
So obviously someone hacked craigslist to get my e-mail addy . After contacting C/L, I got a form letter back telling me to reply to the senders i/p and ask them to have the mail stopped. It has been over a month and I still get this stuff daily. Now I am afraid to use C/L as a source to sell anything

Has this happened to any of you?

That's why you use THEIR email response option. It doesn't reveal your true email address.  I've been selling on cList for 10 years and most of the time I just put my phone number in the ads. Never really had a problem. Once in a while I will forget to check the box that says "don't use email response" but if I get a response I just edit the ad ad take out that option.

If you don't like the idea of using your phone number you can get google-voice (or something like that) and when people call it they can record a message which is then translated into text and passed on to you in text form in an email.

There are lots of options if you explore them.   Aside from eBay, cList is my 2nd biggest money maker.

If your auctions do accept credit cards, do you use them or stick with greenbacks ?

Probably a lot of variation by state and even within a state?

In my area tvs, computer towers and monitors bring 6 cents a pound.

That's about the only thing I recycle from lockers or crate loads I get.

eBay / Re: Suspicious bidding
« on: October 21, 2013, 03:45:19 PM »
I'm a little confused here but one thing I wanted to poinnt out that confused me at one point was ebay used to show the actual bidders bidding on an item so for example if your theebaydude and your the highest bidder the bid history would show theebaydude. Ebay a while back however made all this anonymous so that even though your name is theebaydude in the bid history it would show like "dcf284" Thats not actually a persons real ebay username its just a fake name they plugin there I'm guessing to keep things anonymous. It's possible this is waht your seeing and its not the same person buying.

If you are the one conducting the auction the buyers real screen names will show when you collect on the spot that says
"12 bids" or "2 bids" or whatever.

If you are just someone watching the auction (perhaps as a potential bidder) if YOU click on the "12 bids" you will see a readout that might say "5 bidders, 12 bids" and THEIR names would be coded such as "a****x" for one bidder and maybe "z****y" for another. It would ALSO show that the first one had maybe a feedback rating of 27. Maybe the second one in my example had a feedback rating of 162.

If (as the original poster here said) he (the original poster) had been tracking this seller and his potential buyers he MIGHT be able to assertain that on auction #2 which he was also watching that a bidder with the 162 feedbacks was bidding on the 2nd auction as he did on the first. Sure the 162 rating guy will have a different code name in auction 2, but now a history is building. In auction 3, 4, 5 (as tracked by the original poster here) that bidder with 162 is still going to stand out from the crowd of other bidders.

As to WHY this is proceeding as it is, that's ANOTHER question.

Chapter 1. It's not hoarding...if you plan to sell it.

Chapter 2. There's gold in every storage unit...that you didn't win.

Chapters 3...412.

See Travis' book.

I watched the video, I didn't read the article. Obviously I must have missed something. I take it the bones were from a deceased donkey.

The bones are thought to be those of a WOMAN who had been missing for many years.

445
It's good to be the VP.  ;)

But back to - huh??

I really don't see why he made that comment. Am I missing something here? Please, someone enlighten me.

Jawbone of an a**...is a piece of an a**.

Now he can claim YOU have a complete lack of understanding, but either way, it's still not funny.

446
That's one way to get yourself a piece of ass.

What happened to our "family oriented" website ?

Huh??

I said, what happened to our "family oriented" website?

First the moderator makes the comment, then the owner says "Huh??.

And yet you still took the time to post it. :P

He's trying to win the October contest for most posts in the Storage Auctions In The News area. Right now though I think it is a toss-up between you and Travis with maybe each of you having 1 or 2 posts. Oh well, there's still two weeks left.  ;D

... I was simply searching the internet for upcoming auctions and ran across it, and wanted to add my 2 cents.  Thought that's what these boards were for.  The fact that it's now 2 days before that auction,...timing...coincidence..it is what it is.

"StandingForTruth"....you are welcome to add your two cents and each of us here (including Leota) will take it for what we think it is worth.

Here's something to think about too:

co·in·ci·dence

/kōˈinsədəns,-ˌdens/

noun

"A remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances without apparent causal connection."

They happen sometimes, but I've never been a big fan of coincidences.  ;D

I just ran across this subject matter about Dave coming to Northern Cali.....

What I find interesting is that you are reviving this thread one month after it started and TWO DAYS before the auction being discussed.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Tila Tequila...say it isn't so !
« on: October 14, 2013, 05:28:22 PM »
i dont see a link. yes tila tequila is a d celebrity in more ways than one :)

You didn't see a link because two days ago on 10 12 2013 Travis deleted it. See the edit not in post #1 above. It indicates Travis took it out.

His deletion was done 8 MONTHS after my original posting. Guess it was OK for 8 months, but not for any longer.

Of course no notation about why it was deleted, it just was. To paraphaphrase the movie line "It's good to be the king!", "It's good to be the owner of the forum!".  Somehow doesn't have the same ring to it though.
