Craigslist / Re: You know what I hate most about Craigslist?
« on: July 24, 2013, 12:17:53 PM »
HomeGrown are you listing your store name in your ads? I do every time I list. I have a lot of people come in that saw this or that on Craigs. It makes for great multiple purchases and repeat customers.  Because you are not open yet you could say something like "coming soon" with the address and phone # maybe an opening date.

I am not doing that yet. We're not quite ready to accept walk in customers. Should be ready in the next day or 2. Just had some minor construction done.. baseboards and a new wall around my backflow preventers which is in the front of the store for some reason.. So, now everything has a nice layer of sawdust and drywall dust on it.

I renewed my posts today, and next time I renew (48 hours) I'll add my store info, and try to figure up how to link the ad to my website..

The Lounge / Re: What do you think about the Zimmerman Trial?
« on: July 22, 2013, 10:15:52 PM »
Today a friend of mine who lives in Florida was approached by a black guy in the street who used his hand in the shape of a gun, put it to my friend's face and said "bang your dead, justice for Trayvon"... To which my friend responded by following him while on the phone with police, the guy was eventually questioned by police and my friend left the scene. As he was following this guy, my friend shouted, "This is what happens when you act suspiciously!"

What frustrates me about the aftermath is that everybody is still looking for justice. The justice system did as it was supposed to do, gave the defendant a fair trial and the verdict was the result. Everybody wants to put Trayvon on trial. We don't put victims on trials. The jury is not made up of the victim's peers, it's of the defendant. I think the victory in this for the Martin family is that they have sparked a national discussion on the unfairness in the legal system toward African Americans. There is obvious unfairness, but this situation wasn't related to that. The Martin family can certainly take advantage and make Trayvon the martyr for that cause.

The spammy emails are annoying, but I've sold 5 items this weekend off of craigslist and they all came to my new store which isn't open quite yet. But all my buyers were excited about the store, which hopefully translates to some good word of mouth advertising.

You have to have a good command of the English language to avoid utter vulgarity. For example, when the wife and I are talking about sexy time in front of the kids.. Not necessarily about us, but just in general.. We always use the term "baking cookies". So our conversations go like this, "You know, it's been a while since we baked cookies." Or, "Helen said that ever since Harvey got that job they don't bake cookies as often."

A few months ago I bought 4 lockers. One of them was a guy's unit and I found tools, garage stuff (oil, screws, etc.), a bunch of religious stuff, and 5 big black floppy... toys..

Also bought a unit that was mother/daughter property. Daughter had her name written on everything. Lots of women's clothes, perfumes, lingerie, and a strap on..  :-\

I have no doubt this forum passes some juice! You play by the rules which is why it's a PR3 and will only grow!

I've got a bunch of sites to link. But Google is actually taking away points for links that come from sources that don't make sense. i.e. storage auction forums to promo products. Different businesses, therefore Google doesn't weigh it the same, from what I've read Google actually deducts for those instances. Definitely adding the thrift store site though!

Stores / We're opening unofficially tomorrow!
« on: July 19, 2013, 04:52:03 PM »
We've advertised lightly for tomorrow's unofficial open as a "yard sale" day. Hopefully we get a big turnout! It's supposed to be hot as heck out there, so hopefully some folks will look at my "yard sale" as an opportunity to stay inside for a while. Really, this post is just a cheap way to get a link for the site out.. peakcitythrift.com
