low balleers are a pain but lets be honest many storage auction buyers ask crazy prices for their stuff as well. i saw someone selling a bunch of video games on facebook like 4k worth. it was used stuff and they were asking for 30% off retail as if that was a good deal. not only is it a ton of work piecing everything out but who knows if everything works plus ebay is gonna take 13% right off the top. needed to shift that 30% off retail to more like 70% off retail

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Keeping your emotions in check

sometimes when someone is taking every unit all day it gets frustrating. just gotta remember letting emotions take over just gets you making stupid decisions.

thats kinda why i like silent bid or sealed bid  auctions. takes out the emotional factor as well as the competitive factor so i often find units go for less

some great youtube vids on refinishing furniture. i just did a bedroom set recently myself

i once teamed up with a guy on a unit neither of us could pass up but neither had cash for on our own. it worked out okay. overall though i dont like hsaring my profits and its too tough trying to decide how to divide up items or divide up cash when some items take  months to sell

532
im a member of four but this is the only one ive been on in the last year or so

533
i try not to spend more than 300-400 per unit unless its really stellar. most ive ever brought was 13000 however on average i bring 800 to maybe 1300

I noticed some people have been asking questions about whethr others on here have their own web stores or web presence in addition to just doing ebay and craigslist and classifieds.

I have a few ecommerce stores, am pretty knowledgeable and experienced with seo, ecommerce solutions, payment accepting options, etc. There's plenty of free ways to start such as blogger, weebly, wix, etc where you dont have to pay for hosting or even domains just to try it out and get your feet wet and then there's more expensive more professional options as well.

If anyone has any questions about ecommerce or sellign through your own online platform feel free to ask me

if anyone wants to start their own store without the full outlay of money and time for an actual brick and mortar store the swap o rama in alsip illinosi is great. near chicago and also not a far drive for those of you in northwest indiana. has a huge crowds comming in on hte weekends. in addition to the normal saturday and sunday they are also open wednesday unlike many other flea marekts. you can have a permanent booth so you dont have to take your stuff home. its cheap too only $25 for the large main area and $17 for the side hallways. if anyone wants to dabble with the idea of having a permanent shop without signing a year lease or laying out a ton on rent this is a good option for you.

unless a facility has like 30 units going for auction im probably not gonna go more than 20 minutes there's more than enough units for auction in my immediate area.

538
its quite hard to drive traffic to a website so the time and effort may be more than its worth. also storage auctions are unique inthat you dont have a consistant product. if i sell blankets i can advertise and im always selling blankets if i sell storage auctions one day im selling blankets the next a tv, the next thomas the train toys. there are some great website builders that are free like weebly and wix where you coudl easily setup an online store, cant hurt to start one i just wouldn't spend too much time trying to drive traffic to it. web stores and ecommerce is something im very active ni so feel free to ask me any questions you like

Plato's Closet.    platoscloset.com/locations#us

The most I've ever gotten is 1/3 of retail tho......

platos closet is a good backup resource but they are super picky about what they take and they pay near nothing. ive used them before i normally take the store credit as its nearly double the cash amount and use it to buy clothes for myself.
