Have you ever personally lost a storage unit to foreclosure?

Huh ?

Update on the situation

They called me today and offered a check for almost half the amount I paid.

Sounds like a winner to me.  This is one case where the squeaky wheel truly had a case to be made and came out OK.

Hopefully you'll do OK on the resale too.

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Introducing myself!
« on: September 16, 2013, 04:41:22 PM »
Welcome !

My first suggestion would be to buy a unit or two at a live auction just to get your feet wet before buying online.

Then (or now) do a search within the forum area here for "online auctions". You should see a number of threads pop-up.

You'll have to make your own decisions about what to do from that point on.  ;D

eBay / Re: EBAY - FREE 500 LISTINGS

1 MILLION FREE INSERTIONS!

I knew if I waited them out - they would come around!

http://pages.ebay.com/promo/2013/0915/1Million.html

I'd better get busy....I wouldn't want to lose those 999,990 listings I normally wouldn't do in a month's time.  ;D

Craigslist / Craigslist Deleting Ad Renewal
« on: September 16, 2013, 11:02:50 AM »
A couple of months ago cList was deleting some items that I was renewing.

I had an idea what was going on and if I had 16 items (as an example) I started renewing just 4 a day over a course of 4 days.

*****

Today I have 24 listings and I decided to try renewing them all (5 at a time over a course of a day) so they would all show up as having been renewed on the same day (9/16/2013).

I renewed five and waited a couple of hours to go back in and do another five.  Only problem was that the 5th one I renewed a couple of hours ago was DELETED by cList. Not ghosted. Deleted...comes up pink in account summary.

So, now I'm thinking the algorithim being used in my area (may be different in yours) is a max of 4 renews in any given time period. Don't know what that time period is. I'll wait about 4 hours and try to renew 4 more and see what happens.

Meanwhile the one they deleted can't be reposted even from an OLD listing as it will be too similar to the one they deleted. Yes, I know, multiple accounts, different phone numbers, etc. I've tried many things over 10 years and they are constantly changing their parameters.  The ghosting is the most aggravating...that's when I use a second account.

Maybe he is taking a long break

Yes, that's probably it. And he decided to take off all his old posts just to get a fresh start when he returns.  ::)

Stranger things have happened, but I doubt it.

Craigslist / Re: Tires.....again.
« on: September 16, 2013, 09:56:42 AM »
What would be great, is that if there was a way to burn them for heating your house....

I would guess that has been thought about and dismissed for whatever reasons.  The most successful idea I saw working some years ago was recyling little pieces of them for use in "asphalting" type operations.

With the millions of used tires in the USA it's a market just waiting for the right "futurist" waiting to pounce.
Of course that group will have to have chemists, engineers, money-men to make it happen!  ;D

Went to a couple of auctions last week. Nothing bought, nothing great to buy.

Also went to a piece-by-piece auction. Details in thread below.

Picker's Paradise / Latest "piece-by-piece" Auction
« on: September 16, 2013, 09:47:22 AM »
Once or twice a month I go to facilities in several cities which conduct single item or piece-by-piece sales.

This doesn't seem to be all that common across the country (at least no one else writes about it on this forum), and only one other member on the forum has mentioned this practice and that was negatively.

I used to feel that way about it too. It can take a lot of hours and sometimes the rewards are slim, but other times they are great....just like buying regular units only with more control on the part of the buyer.

*****

In this case I got to the first facility about 15 minutes late thinking not a big deal as they were supposed to have 8 lockers. Instead, people were walking out as I was parking. They only had two lockers and both got sold in a total of 15 minutes. What does that tell you about their contents?

Even a lkr with next to nothing in it takes 10 to15 minutes to sell unless it's just plain empty.

*****

Second facilty supposed to have 8 or so lkrs also .... and it did.  This time the sale took about 5 hours.  Worse than that was that I only bought one box of items for $5 and it wasn't that great when I got through it.

One fellow buyer though did well getting a whole locker for $100. It is going to come out good. I didn't bid on it because the location was remote from my home base and I just didn't want to deal with it and it would have just been driving the price up for him. He has returned that favor for me in the past.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Ocals Florida,
« on: September 15, 2013, 08:04:41 PM »
I’m going to be relocating to Ocala Florida here soon.  I was wondering if there is anyone else on the forum that is in that area.  Just trying to get a few pointers not trying to run people out of business..  :'(

The three people I know on the forum who are from Florida have not posted in a LONG time. Of course one of the 3,000 or so who have never posted might be from there and see your request.

Probably not true, but would certainly add to the drama!
We are big on drama around here as nearly 99.9% of things to be said about buying storage auction lockers have been said more than once.  ;D

Since I was replying to you, I figured I would tailor the saying accordingly.

Me too !   ;D

I think it started with the following:

1) StorMe defended Travis against StorageTreasures posts by putting an avatar in his (StorMe's) place showing
little boy "Calvin" urinating on the logo from Storage Treasures.  That didn't last long; it got removed one
    way or the other.

2) Travis and StorMe had words about who knew more about running a website and getting the kind of coverage
one wanted from Google, people in general.

3) After those two things (within a couple of weeks) StorMe was gone.  That's just a time frame...who did what
is up for grabs. My guess is StorMe left in a huff and a black "wife beater" shirt.

God protects fools and drunks.

I thought it was "God protects babies and global moderators".
