Craigslist / Re: Do you barter on craigslist?
« on: May 05, 2011, 03:51:46 PM »
lol, I got a 1,500 dollar watch that I wore out to auction once, was so worried about getting it damaged. But had to keep an eye on time so I can pick up my kids when school was out. Needless to say The next say I went to wal-mart and got me a $5 watch to use at auctions.

Now as far as bartering, I have yet done it. But if opportunity arises where it would be worth it, I would jump all over it.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Gas Prices

Gas prices not really effecting me. Since I been in the business prices have been high. I just add it to total of my unit cost along with labor and trash dumping. I also plan very carefully where I am going. So when I do get a chance to go out there, I truly go out there. Just about to take a risk on a 45 min drive to a small town that only has 2 units to auction. So it dont really effect me to much. I am hoping what I would let effect me effects everyone else and they decide not to go because of it. The worse situations that are around, the less competition will be, especially after all this hype goes away and they jump on the next band wagon, which I am thinking it might be being an auctioneer. Since that is the new show on the history channel, or maybe taxidermy :)

And you have heard this from who?

It will be alot of fun in the comming months, as i am going to CA on a trip, i will then make sure i attend auctions as much as i can. I will time it so i can be at one of the auctions run by Laura and Don, as i have talked to them a few times.  Don is the man behind it all. I doubt he is willing to loose his license over fake auctions.

Keep us posted on that.

Flea Markets / Re: Do you prefer indoor or outdoor flea markets?
« on: May 05, 2011, 01:09:17 PM »
I have yet sold at a flea market. But I would have to say on customer end of things, I prefer outdoor flea markets.

If that is the way ebay is doing it now, then I more than likely will go back to them. Just depends on how much of a cut they are doing on the shipping and handling and the cut they take from teh final.

Sounds like to me this was a warehouse to either sell the bags of rock salt. For salt water aquariums or for use as a water softener.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Craigslist

I have seen very few auction listed in CL. They are there. But lets say you have 40 facilities up for auction today. Only maybe one or two if you are lucky will be posted in CL. CL is not a good source to rely all your intel on for storage auctions.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Sales Tax Question from a noob
« on: May 05, 2011, 12:01:16 PM »
Ive only bought two units this year and had three garage sales that have made 200-300 dollars each. Not to mention that these garage sales have included my own stuff.

Im just wondering how much can I make before I go through the process of paying taxes on it? I dont want to spend money getting all the paperwork and buying a cash register when I haven't  even made a grand yet.

Just contact your local IRS office and ask them, that is were you can get a precise answer.

Perhaps I'm just naive, but is the average blog owner making any money on subscriptions? And I really don't know too much about RSS feeds. Anyone care to elaborate?

I cant elaborate to much on the RSS, but as far as subscription, it is not a way for you to make money on, but a way that will automatically let your subscribers know there is a new post. Hence if you are making alot of post should mean it will equal more clicks to your site. Which is good for some adsense.

The only good thing about western wear is that women love it.

Correction, I love those tight jeans on a woman. But damn it can be a pain to take it off of them. :)

any thoughts from the "old timers", has anyone confronted you at a flea market or thrift store or on Craigslist claiming you are selling thier stuff they left in a storage locker and give you a hard time about it?

I have not come across it yet, but then again I am not an old timer to this. However I thought for sure I was going to have words exchanged. I just got through cleaning out a unit, furniture was in the back of the truck. I pulled up to a restaurant so I can grab some food. As I am exiting my vehicle The owner of that Unit I just cleaned out walked out of the restaurant. Dont you just love pictures :). Oddly enough though he never looked my way or towards my truck. So whew!!!!!
