Yesterday was our annual Holiday parade. The store had a huge day. We have been selling really odd stuff. I sold 50 golf clubs that have been sitting around and collecting for 20 bucks. Why he wanted them all I don't know. Trunks have been the big seller. I sold three yesterday and two during the week. My mom has a box fetish and she was banned from buying anymore until we sold some of them. Sold all of the vintage telephones I had, grandfather clock, several pieces of glass ware. Truly stuff that doesn't usually sell this time of year. Furniture is more the norm for me right now. Not complaining though. Bring on the money!

I have an Etsy store to sell my vintage costume jewelry. That has been the best way for me. Be patient. It will take a while. The thing for me is that it doesn't take up much space so I don't mind the time. The stuff that is not vintage I blow out on a dollar rack. Best to just move it.

Once in the last two years but it was jewelry. Scrapped for right under $2000.00. This was one of those units that you would have never expected to find this stuff in and proves that you need to go through everything! I found money and jewelry in coat pockets, purses, envelopes it was nuts but that is just how some people are.

Looks just like the one my mom sold at a yard sale years ago. We only had one TV channel growing up so most weekend nights we had family Space Invader wars. Thanks for the memories!

I am not a religious person, I don't go to church but I think most television shows have gotten out of hand. Duck Dynasty is one of the few shows on today that has morals and family values. Most of the current shows are all about sex, lying and cheating. Other stars have said a lot worse with no consequences. America is supposed to be about freedom. I am currently boycotting A & E because of this ridiculous move. We watch a lot of their programming and I will miss it but it is my freedom to make this choice.

Nine units today. 17 bidders. Prices were not bad. I scored a 5 X 5 for $250. These people used every square inch of this one. Everything is very dirty but scored 5 dressers in various sizes, a really great hutch and a nice dinning table. Lots and lots and lots of toys which I don't sell. Will be blowing them out to someone else to get rid of or I guess I could spend a day at the swap meet. I foresee a profit of 5 to 7 hundred after a day of cleaning everything up. Not bad for my first unit in 3 months.

This is a good example of why you should be ready to move stuff immediately after the auction. It doesn't give anyone the ability to come back and take it away.

I think if this happened to me I would insist that the facility give me my money back plus some for time and fuel.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Do vintage electronics sell for you ?
« on: December 13, 2013, 05:48:08 PM »
I can't keep vintage receivers. I have a pair of new Bose speakers that I hook them up to. Usually they only last a week or two. Normally I sell most between $150 and $200.
Anything else sits forever. I have two really nice turn tables I thought would sell quick that are still sitting here after 6 months. They are not a loss though as I reclaimed them from the electronic recycle at the local storage facility. Another reason to make good friends with the managers.

Bid on a unit today on SB. Mostly clothes and shoes. I had looked up two pairs of the shoes that I could see the brand on and they were designer and very expensive. Unit went for $280.00. Little bit to high for me. Nothing else in the near future. Maybe the new year will be better?

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How do you gain connections?

Having a store makes it so much easier to find the connections. Most of them walk in the front door. I have a notebook full of names and wants. My biggest problem being in a rural area is finding experts on certain items.

Lows for us here are going to be in the teen tonight and tomorrow. Grapes are all picked but lettuce, strawberries and avocado farmers are freaking out. Bring on the smudge pots.

This same thing happened in our area about a year ago. My dad had his truck broke into several times and lost a gun and several tools. He went to look but nothing was his. He said the stuff the Sheriff had logged was overwhelming.

I just recently learned about Bakelite bangles. They are worth more than gold, literately, if you find the right ones. I have one that I was going to put $5.00 on. Decided to look it up just for the heck of it. The same thing sold on Ebay a few months ago for $349.99. Mine is yellow and green. If it were black or white with the opposite color dots it would be worth more like $400.00. Makes you rethink some of that estate stuff. I'm putting it on my Etsy store. Hope to bring more traffic there.
