New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Warehouse not taking bids
« on: February 02, 2011, 01:23:57 PM »
I know where I'm from I do believe they dont have to have an auction.  The owner of the facility can 'dispose of the items as they see fit.'  I called one facility and they flat-out told me they dont do auctions.  They said they sell all of their stuff to 2 stores in town.  :-\   I think all they have to do is post an ad in the legal section of the paper, but they are under no obligation to auction the items.  --But your city may be different. HTH

The lookie-loo section has spiraled out of control.  I was stating my opinion as to the bellyaching that I hear at infinitum about how vets hate newbies, its just WRONG.  Why would anyone state such a thing?!  No one has a monopoly on any one industry, this one included.  If you don't like new people in the game then up your game to be stiffer competition for them.  But stating you don't like them is so not necessary. What does that accomplish except animosity.

Just starting out. Been to two auctions so far. First was a sealed bid auction and 6 people showed up. Didn't win any but did place bids. Second was just outside of Rockford, IL at 10AM on a Saturday and the wid-chill was about -5. 9 units were up for auction and 79!!!!!!!! people showed up. Prices were through the roof. No more auctions to go to until the 28th but looking foward to it. Would like to see smaller crowds but it is what it is.

@TMRE-What I'm finding is the colder it is, especially if school is closed or they shut the city down....the more people come out.  I don't think people care about the temps, cus it can get real nasty and people stand around like its no big deal.  Temps, definitely don't scare people away.

I find it interesting how people on here and at the actual auctions think they own the profession.

Amen, well said.

Stories about Storage Auctions / putting energy into upping your game
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:58:44 PM »
I have experienced nice people at auctions as well.  And I am treated well.  You just WISH I was treated poorly because that would make you feel good about yourself.  Your upset cus the good-old-boy net work has been outed.  So you come here to bellyache.

Instead of putting energy into upping your game you try to run new people off, because you cant handle the competition. If you arent able to change with the times then you are not a true business person to begin with.

Furthermore, I have no need to PROVE myself to you, about what I have accomplished in my business career.  Or to answer your childish 20 question essay. I have already stated that I have done something similar and plan to do this extreamly well.  I am allowed to say that. SO YOU JUST HUSH.. as you put it.

Its a forum for commenting and not for you to own.  I see why its the SAME group commenting over and over...welcoming..your not.  Try again.  You are welcoming of like-minds. You don't want new-comers in the forum and its abundantly clear why NO ONE posts on these threads.   I deal with rednecks like you all the time.  Same insecurities different face.  ::)

Since your new to the storage game you have no track record and can't back it up now, only time will tell if you can, so you should probably get a few profitable units under your belt before you get so cocky.

You have no clue about me.  And I find that refreshing.  ;D
If I were you, I wouldnt worry about me.  You have better things to do.....atleat I would hope. ::)

I'm new to the game, but I know to keep my cards close.  I was chatted-up by another newbie couple at one auction.  I thought it was funny when they said "Do you know of any other auctions going on today?"  and "Where do you get your information from?  We get ours from auctionzip."  I was lauging internally.  I just played dumb and said I knew of no other auctions that day and that I would have to check out ..."auctionzip is it?...hmm I've never heard of that (sarcasim)." ::)

Did they actually think I was going to tell them if there were other auctions?!  I hear this more than a few times at auctions I attend.  And sometimes the old vets do it to.  They will either ask or announce where auctions are that day....plain stupid!

Also, best of luck to you but you don't know your here to stay until you've actualy bought some units and made some money.

No, I'm here.  I have been doing other things similar to this.  And Ive done my homework.  Ive got the warehouse, the crew and the ability to make money in several channels.  I'll be someone to recon with in my area in a year or less.  Not bragging, just sayin.

I feel your pain.  It was a secret society that brought a lot of profit for very little investment.  And that has to suck.  But the times are a changing and with the economy the way it is people are looking for all kinds of avenues.  But mostly you can thank Hollywood for interrupting your all-boys-club.  Had they not produced those shows a lot of people would have never known.  :-\

I'm not from California, but I was looking at auctions being held their, and some storage facilities state in their ad: "No children allowed at this facilities auction."  Love It! ;D

I can see both sides of the debate here.  I'm a newbie and I'm frustrated that the crowds are so big. :D  However, I'm here to stay and the old heads need to get used to it.  I know my financial limits and I wont be "run-up" by anyone, ever!  I treat this like the business that it is.

If you are world class and have a tough auction game then newbies dont intimidate you, they just make you stronger.  I hate the bellyaching.  The good-old-boys-club has been exposed.  Either up your game or quit your crying.

Hi, I'm new to auctions, but have been selling on Ebay for a while.  I ran out of Ebay inventory and stumbled onto auctioning.  Right now I'm doing about a months worth of research.  Ill be ready for my first bid in a week or two.  I'm attending all the auctions I can and getting my face out their.  I have discovered its a tight nit community and newbies are given "looks"..lol.  Which is fine. I have thick skin and love to be underestimated.  Love this board and it looks like the only one on the net that I can find.  Hope to make this my home!
