Online Storage Auctions / Re: adventures in Online Storage Auction

The painting is Rene Brochard.. This could pay for your room ten fold! A French Canadian artist, which would be why the title is in French. This is an absolute score, if you can authenticate it. His popular works sell for about $1,000-$2,500. Signature looks to be right. But you'd be better to take it to a local expert. I'm not sure how his art does in Texas, but the oil rig theme may increase the value of the art.

I knew you guys might know, I will be taking it to an art expert Monday.  Thanks so much.  If you are ever in Texas the first ten rounds on me!!!

It turned out to be an interior designer's unit.  It was to dark by the time I got there to take any good pics but I pulled some items to process at home.  Here is what I got and I could use some help.

Thats a painting I found with the title Brochard Texas 1964 by La Parube a huile

Then I also got some pillow cases?

There was also a nice dovetailed end table with a drawer that I left in the unit.  Of course all the rolled fabric was there.  I am looking on how to sell the fabric and would love some advice.

Thanks again guys for all your help, this forum has been a god send for me.  Hopefully as I get more experienced in this business I can pay it forward, like you guys.  You really do have to be an expert in my areas to succeed.

Ok so I won my second online storage auction

I will going up to pay the lady this afternoon and will take some better pics of what is in the unit.  Wanted to post this as a reference.

Feel free to guess what things are and I will award the players with answers!!!!

On another note I was the highest bidder on a very interesting unit but it was canceled earlier today.

That is is a stupid story.  I cannot think of an auction buyer that would not give it back.  Hell they probably would love to cherry pick some nice items and she can have all the personal stuff back.

I have seen some friends of mine get a Flag in a Triangle case of a fallen soldier.  That makes everyone sad and I know they have bent over backwards to get that back to the owners.  Actually I have seen two of those flags in the last month.

Magazine locker was a bit of a bust. About 1000 LBs of paper recycled, and 15-20 tubs of cloth material. Anyone have any experience selling cloth/material? It has been various sizes and patterns, but most is brand new and tagged in some way. I know if I cant sell it quick it will either seriously clog my space or be thrown away.
Thats to bad but the fun factor helps till the second hour.  I bet you could sell the cloth and material at a local crafts fair to some of the venders.  Check out the venders and see if they are using some of the material in their crafts.

I was finally able to dive into the unit and start to organize.  I am slow because of my day job and kids.  Here is a Clist ad for the grill

https://post.craigslist.org/manage/4200034138

I have started to call high end repair shops and have an appointment for them to come look at the broken appliances and parts Wednesday.  It was not as easy as I thought.  The way Storage Wars shows it there are always experts willing to help you at a drop of the hat.  Not so true in real life :).

Its interesting that I cannot use any of the stuff except for a painting in my new resale space, this stuff is pretty specific.

It is just rented space in a big resale store.
Its a great price and she does keep 10% commission.  What sold me was I have been renting a smaller space only 150 sq ft for $150 and was able to sell over $500 in the first week.  She does extensive online marketing via Facebook and Craigslist and was able to help sell one of my bigger items, a front loading dryer.
The traffic is great on the weekends but a little slow during the week.
Anyway I will be posting pics as soon as I get the space put together by this weekend.
Thanks again for your help Home Grown!!

I can tell you that I bought two pieces of stainless steel cooking equipment for a total of $40 and sold them for a total of $400. That's what I like about picking !  ;D

What was the cooking equipment?
I have a some very nice stainless steel stuff and we finally be getting to it this week.  Was just curious what you sold.  Thanks.

I got a feeling it is not a Alec Baldwin reference but the original Shadow.  That should give us a little evidence about his age.

I had my first sealed bid auction last week and it was interesting.  Only two units out of the seven showed any promise.  One had a couch, love seat, coffee table, and dining room set and I bid $80
Another had two tool chest on casters and some random power tools as well a ton of boxes and junk.  I bid $120

I won the $80 one and was able to sell the dining room set for $60 to the storage manager.  The couch and love seat became my first setup at my new place

Hopefully I can sell it and all will be well :).

Stores / 500 Sq feet of dreams
« on: November 17, 2013, 05:27:02 PM »
I finally did it.  I was able to negotiate a great price at a resale store 15 miles from my house.  It is one of many antique and resales shops on a strip right off the highway.
500 sq feet!!!!
The owner of the resale shop is a storage auction buyer I have gotten to know and is a stand up woman.  She is fair and friendly.  She has been doing well for four years.  We rarely butt heads so it works out well.
Homegrownpromos has been great answering questions and offering advice.  At first I thought it would be a good place to unload smalls and clothes but after watching the customers come through the store and some good advice I changed directions.
We are going to offer good furniture and household goods.  I already was able to sell a couch, dryer, and some smalls via consignment and it seems to be what people come to the store for. The owner is great with online marketing and I will add to that as well.
I have carved out a small workspace to sell Macbooks and small electronic accessories I have picked up via ebay and liquidation.com.  HDMI cables, power cables, usb, etc.  It is good to have a space that works for me.  I will only be there for appointments for computers and some on the weekend to help work the floor.  There are a couple of big venders there and everyone helps each other since we all have unique inventories.  There is a great couple that speaks Spanish and English so that is a big plus in Texas.
I have a 10x20 storage full that will be my initial inventory.
I also have friends that make unique handmade crafts and I will charge them 25% to have a small space to sell their goods.  We are going to social market those items as well.
I am really excited and this is a great way to start my jump into the resell market.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Teenager buys liend storage lockers

It is great to see young people understand the value of a dollar and learn the principles of business.  I bring my kids to some auctions in the summer and weekends.  I give them some of the smalls so they then sell items at garage sales.  Its a ton of fun for them.  They have sold old toys and games on Clist and hope to actually buy a locker next summer.  Its a fun family outing.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Fooled by an optical illusion
« on: November 12, 2013, 10:55:33 AM »
Not so much an optical illusion but a classic newbie mistake.  A big unit I bought had four guitar cases and two speakers with fender covers.  Cases were empty and the covers were the only thing fender made in the unit.
