Flea Markets / Re: How do you price clothing at flea markets?
« on: January 27, 2012, 09:00:37 PM »
I tried that at my flea except I was doing a grocery bag for $1 but I got very little interest. I even had one guy who only wanted to buy two shirts. I told him to fill up the bag. He said "No, I'm not greedy! *handtohead* Maybe I will try to $1 a bag technique again this spring and see if interest has changed. Oh, and I was selling the name brand clothes for $1 a bag. Walmart brands go straight to Goodwill.
The median household income for my county is just over 32 grand a year. mexican immigrants have been on the rise around here too for the last few years, and I have learned they will buy a lot of used clothes. I don't speak much spanish, but my 10 year old son converses with them just fine. (thus, he is just as important with me on saturday mornings as anything else.lol)

If it's high end, name brand or brand new I'll sell separate, but regular walmart style, etc. I sell 3 dollars a bag. Everyone knows that there are A LOT of clothes found in units. I used to just donate all of them. Since I pay 4 bucks per 8x4ft table at the flea market, I get a table just for the clothes and let people fill a grocery bag as full as they can get it for 3 dollars. I can usually make somewhere around 60-80 dollars, maybe more on any given Saturday doing that. It may not sound like much, or worth the trouble, but I don't have to wash them or sort the sizes.

I've been all over the country, nearly every little corner and I say people are just people. The different areas of the country have different personalities and attitudes. With the economy the way it is, people are moving away from their hometowns and venturing into other regions of the country. The different views and attitudes are clashing.
I'm not going to say where I have met the rudest people cause I don't want any "internet gangstas" wasting their time.

no worries. Graham is a little out of my reach.  I am about 2 hours away. It would have to be a major sale for me to go that far.

Flea Markets / Re: Flea market prices
« on: January 20, 2012, 10:46:31 AM »
I have found that some people think their items are worth their weight in gold. Ebay has these people also.
When I sell at the flea market, I want to go home with alot less than what I came with. I know the market in my area, even though the prices are a steal, I always have those that want everything for nothing.
In my area, the ones that insist on trying to sell their items at or near retail, usually don't last long. Especially when the table beside them has the same thing for half the cost. Then I know some that have absolutely nothing else to do besides "hang out" at the flea market and try to lure anyone and everyone into a BS story about how their HUMBLE, (yes I spelled it the way it was written on the bottom of their knock-off) figurine was once owned by General Lee's wife. (true story) Asking price: 500 dollars.
But once in a while, they will find a sucker..(usually someone not from the area. My town gets alot of traffic from OH, WV, VA and KY folks going to the beach) Then, Bingo, they have a story to tell forever.lol

Makes no sense.Next it will be "As Seen On TV"!

I have actually typed in "as seen on tv" on ebay. I seen a commercial for something and forgot the name of it. I searched ebay just to see what they were being sold for on there. That search works.lol

PS: Dont think about coming down here slick. We will eat you ALIVE.

LOL..I've spent a lot of time in Fayetteville and Hope Mills...Going to be getting back next month....Ive gotten a few very nice things from Southern Pines and Aberdeen...Moore county, Moore Money.lol

I just did a little research. (curiosity) You need to check with your state..I noticed some states DO require a license to sell tobacco products.

9
In most states, it is illegal to sell cigarettes from another state. I have found out the hard way. Cigars, not sure, small amounts from the state in which they came from and you are selling in the same state, don't know. But if you are selling cigarettes in a state, and the tax stamp shows another state..save yourself some trouble and stop.
They can issue a fine up to 1,000 dollars, and when i say "UP TO" 1,000 dollars...they pretty much mean $1,000. Also, maybe 6 months in jail. That is for the first offense. Oh, and not to forget the silver bracelets you get to sport for a while..lol
Anyone who smokes, or who can read...you know the prices of tobacco varies from state to state. That being said, prices of cigarettes in the south, much like everything else is cheaper than they are in the northeast.4.80 a pack vs. 10.00 a pack or more. Thats why most travel plazas along the interstates have a 2 carton max.
The main issue, is what else? MONEY..taxes from tobacco generate alot of money.
Call the ATF, they will sort out any questions you may have without getting in trouble. Just explain you found some tobacco products in a storage locker and are wondering what the laws would be to sell them. At the least, they may tell you to either use them yourself, or throw them away.
Just don't traffic large quantities.

Craigslist / Re: Selling rims/tires <advice needed>
« on: January 13, 2012, 04:45:45 AM »
Do you have any rim/tire dealers in your area? even a garage maybe? Ask them if they want to buy them. If not, ask if you can put them in their shop and if they sell, you will share a certain percentage with them. (consignment)  Or if you could put an ad in their store. Go into the Auto parts stores and ask the people that work there...if they aren't interested, they may know someone who is.
Also, where I live, most of the small "moms and pops" convenience stores have bulletin boards you can advertise on.
If your're only getting offered 400, I would even check with a pawn shop..they may give more..Pawn shops are always my last choice, but you may get more than 400 and get rid of them.
I know alot of gear heads, so I usually don't have a problem moving anything to do with transportation, especially aftermarket add-ons.
Check with any local car shows that might come in the area.....Also, google Car Clubs in your area. People who pay good money to get their car, and maintain their car the way they want are willing to pay a fair price.
In my past experiences, teenagers are usually the ones that will throw low ball figures at me, mostly cause their funds are limited.
Good luck

He kicked the worthless car and the wheel flew off. It broke the glass on the five foot tall curio cabinet. The top shelf, which was a mirror fell out and shattered. He thought to himself, "Does the seven years of bad luck cancel the lucky penny?" He flopped down on the nearest seat but was jabbed in the butt by a.......

Those TVs weigh a freakin ton. My parents had one just like that but it finally kicked the bucket a few months ago. They called me to help move it and i said "Get real" and offered to pay for moving guys to come haul it to the corner for the garbage.

It doesn't always work, but I had bought a large 38inch tv like that one...I sat it on an old blanket and dragged it around..lol...but having to pick it up was a real pain.
