Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Units going cheap!
« on: August 30, 2014, 04:56:10 PM »
Popped on a room, first in a while, for $500 (still considered cheap in my area) will actually do about $10k on it.  Haven't had one like this in over a year.  I'm glad to say they still exist in my neck of the woods.

They make a combined total of $40k per episode not including haul fees, room costs, bonuses ..etc. in other words at least $520k a season

If they were so hard up I'm sure they could have found a dress at macys for $800 like my sister just did (who makes 1200/month) rather than sell a truck.

I watched the first pilot and bailed.   :34:

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Has anyone ever found a Rolex?
« on: August 23, 2014, 08:27:19 AM »
That seems like a rather low fetch at the auction.

I actually saw him yesterday.

He said it was:
1. $3750 - retail 15k
2. $3400 - retail 12k
3. $2500 - retail $7k

I think his mistake was that the auction he put them up in was more for dealers so they were looking to pay 30%ish.

Like jewelry they get it all on consignment direct from distributors so there is no need to straight out purchase them if they don't need to.  He should have waited for the good one in the area on NYE, he would have easily gotten double.

I saw a couple of episodes on youtube and its def a lot more raw than the us versions.  they are down and dirty over there.

A guy I know found an empty rolex box in a room and then the next month, unbeknownst to him he bought the persons sister room and it had 3 genuine ones in there.  The retail was about $12-15k each they sold at auction for $2500 each.

I've found plenty of old bulova 14k and 18k watches.  They aren't worth much.  I just take them at this point and sell them as scrap plus a little extra.  Easier and faster than waiting to sell on ebay.  Especially the older skinnier ones that aren't really in style and they can sit forever.

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Dave's argument with Laura
« on: August 13, 2014, 05:45:11 PM »
Dave did alot of trash talking about laura and dan to many of their accounts.  Thats why she referenced that he was trying to steal her jobs.

They did not know dave was showing up so everyones reaction is real.

I actually thought dave was being quiet and somewhat uncomfortable being back.  He knows everyone hates him because he spilled all of the secrets.

The producers gave him a chance to see what happened.  Laura lost her mind and was a complete b in the process I thought and they liked what they saw so they gave him a multi episode deal.  Not sure of the dollar amount but far less than the $60k he was making per show.

That is why the second one, which was filmed a couple of days later laura was being nice to him.  She was told to play ball.

129
Bought a room for $200 that you could see at least $600 from the door in resale prices.  Ended up selling the entire room for a little over $2k.  Still not sure why no one bid me up.

A standard 30 minute episode is only 22 minutes run time.  In order to show the nitty gritty you would have to focus on only 1 team.  Then in order to keep it interesting you would then have to show their dynamic, internal issues ..etc.  Unless it was captivating and could offer something different I don't think it would get picked up at this point.

Producers are shying away at storage shows at this point.  Notice no sw ny, the looong delay in the new season of sw texas and the 3 week hiatus in the new season of storage wars to revamp and get dave back in there.

The show that is taking this approach is the new jarrod and brandi spin off which is focusing less on the auction and more on family and the store.

he had to have just been bidding it up.

If he was smart and wanted something in the back he could have just auctioned it off, stated it was contingent on the owner paying ... say he was giving them another hour, then go into the unit grab the stuff and then let the winner empty it out.

This would allow him to get what he wants while not risking the owner paying at the last second.

packed lunch or 711 stop

I think my biggest loss was $2,000.  10x30 packed.  Brand new merch up in the front 2' looked good so went up to $1,400.  Moved the first row, about $300 worth of value and it was all bags of garbage, mold, urine in bottles ..etc.  Balance of loss comes from dumping fees.  Bleh.

134
I have one now.  I just couldn't list any of the items I previously had listed.  As fast as you can set up a new email/pay pal you can have a new ebay account.

I would start off small, listing maybe 5 items  to make sure they don't swoop in and delete your postings.
