This reflects the business pretty well even though it is a year or so old.

If I'm not mistaken each of the two tv shows is going into SEASON 3.

Went to a "piece by piece" auction the other day. Twelve lkrs opened and 12 to 15 bidders there...usually about 30.
First 3 were dogs, but #4 was a 10 x 30 and had good stuff...took a while to sell it all (maybe 45") but I made out well and other people did to.

With the 10% premium I paid a total of $132 and project the stuff will sell for around $450 or so. That works out to a pretty good hourly rate for the 3.5 hours I was there.

Stayed for a couple of more lkrs being opened, but left with 4 still to go...figured I had enough.

I know alab (haven't heard from him in weeks) has great disdain for these kind of auctions, but they sometimes work out and no complaints from me...and I didn't have to take my 80' semi to load the stuff !  ;)

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Lost luggage auction.

Going to my first unclaimed luggage auction.  Anyone been to one of  these?  Any tips?  what's a good price to pay for a bag?

This is a case where I honestly think one should pay....as little as possible!

Not quite like evaluating a locker. I doubt they let you look inside do they? (never seen the tv show).

Anyway, I suppose you could evaluate the "bag" a little, but somehow I doubt a professional photographer with a fancy hardcase suitcase is going to forget to claim his bag.  Jewelry? Maybe...not in my bag. I would guess most people would carry it on the plane.

Let us know how the auction goes. Pretty dead on the threads lately.

Liking Clist today. Just sold a china hutch for $475 taking me into the black on a recent $1900 lkr buy.
See post #57 in Auction Scene #5....May, 2012 for details

Edit:

Really liking Clist now...3 hours after selling the china hutch, sold the table and 6 chairs to a guy who drove
50 miles without seeing it (except for pics) and bought it for $400!  One more elephant out of the barn.

Love good news.....

My $1900 lkr purchased May 9 is "clear" now after 3 Saturday flea sales and one big sale today...sold the China Hutch for $475. Was asking $550 and he came back at $450 and I countered with $500 and I think he would have gone for it, but as he hesitated I said to take it for $475 and that sealed the deal. Now I don't have to worry about that elephant.

Looking forward to cruising into the profit stage now with I think about $2K in sales left in there...mostly bigs, but fair number of smalls left too.  ;D

Make that TWO sales:

Three hours after the hutch sale a guy drove 50 miles based on the pictures on Clist and bought table and six chairs for $400, making me one happy camper today.

Pretty vague

Yep, but maybe the answer is in the link below or in the other thread he started with the same contents:

Went to an auction yesterday (Thursday, May 24, 2012) and only 15 people there for the 4 lockers.
There were 2 of us old-time regulars, 2 year-old regulars, and the rest newbies. So, good odds.

The lockers though were not partiularly interesting and the other long time regular got 3 of 4 mostly at reasonable pries, though one 10 x 10 at $925 seemed a bit of a stretch to me though with a stainless fridge and a rug doctor he said he was half covered so may work out OK.

I left before #4 was sold as it was a junker. But, perhaps more proof if you can find the occasional sale with a small crowd the odds go up for getting a buy.

What's it Worth?? / Re: Port Wine? (Oporto, Portugal)

A google search for Oenology websites is your best bet; I would pay $4.95.

Take a look at post #83 in the "auction hunters is FAKE" thread.  A good tracking on a "setup" in the Auction Hunters show.

I thought this was interesting.

That is MORE than interesting !  Thanks for the good tracking on that. I think your timeline says it all.

Haven't watched these two guys for months but tuned in tonight (May 23, 2012) when they were in Alaska.

Didn't take long for them to get a lkr with an 8-WHEEL ATV.  Oh yeah, I know a guy got one of those just last week in a $1 lkr.

Gimme a frigging break !

There is a Storage Wars NY in the works as well.

This was talked about a year ago.  Do you have recent information?  At least the accents would be different.

edit: Wiki, that online encyclopedia that member ALAB thinks is suitable only for 8th graders, has quite a bit of info about Storage Wars and the spinoffs.

Craigslist / Re: Craigslist observations

I'd like to think I had something to do with reducing those [emails]. :)

I KNOW I had something to do with my ZERO reception of scam emails.

I check the little radio box that denies emails from being sent. I use a phone number for them to call.
I have had no problems with this.

If they call one day and want to see it the next day (or later) I tell them to give me a call about 1 hour before
their desired appt time. If they don't call me, I call them. This eliminates 99.9% of people who flake on appts.

I have my Clist sale items at my permanent storage unit, OR if I have it at home, I take it to my storage unit as it is only 1 mile away.

Have you all noticed any changes on Craigslist?

I don't track it closely, but I can tell you it has been WAY DOWN from a year ago.
I used to sell 2 to 3 items a month pretty regularly, but in the last 6 months or so I think it's been
more like 1 a month or sometimes less.

I don't have any assessment on WHY this is the case.

I have put a few on lately, so will see what happens.

I can't wait for the next pool table!! ;)

If there's one thing I hate worse than mattresses, it's pool tables !  Fortunately they make their presence known
pretty much like mattresses do and are therefore avoidable (unless there are 100 boxes of gold bars there also).

You've done great with them !  I'm sure you'll get another.
