New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Good Part Time Income??
« on: November 30, 2014, 06:01:45 PM »
500k on ebay is crazy.

I go to auctions about 3 times a month, buy smart and am consistently at around $2k - 3k a month profit

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Storage Hunters UK Premiere

I watched 1-8 on youtube today while I was at work and not the worst one I've seen.  All of the rooms are totally staged but the cast, less one or two, are totally bearable.

Because none of them have obviously done this before and it doesn't appear that they know what they are doing or how these shows work they really have no idea that the rooms are staged and get beat pretty badly.  The one woman Linda always looks so sad.  I'll watch all day if some of the characters are genuine.

Weird & Wacky Finds / Re: Strangest item you ever came across?

Thankfully they did!

The only issue I had is that they told this story in front of other buyers at the next auction so people know that I got a score and they bid me up a little while after that.

I like to play dumb and poor at the auctions.

Mike Braiotta's Blog / Re: Mike Braiotta From Storage Wars New York
« on: November 20, 2014, 01:36:34 PM »
so mike what are your thoughts on the SW experiment?

This time last year storage wars was averaging 3m viewers per episode with 1.0 share.  Last week it was at 1.8m with .5 share.

Every week its getting lower and lower and with 2 weeks left, based on the 6 episode trial run it doesn't look good.

Have you been filming SW NY?  I saw Joe P a month ago and he said even if it did happen he most likely wouldn't be on it because of a big fight he had with Dolph.  Dolph jumped ship and went to work on deadliest catch and Joe said he lost tons of money on the deal and blames original.

If they sell the concept to another network, they are going to revamp LA but what about NY?

The Treasure Chest / Re: Anyone save diamonds?

Whenever I find gold/diamonds ..etc in a unit if I can sell for scrap I sell up to the amount I paid for the room and then stick the rest in the safety deposit box.  I keep everything that isn't scrap.  Its my retirement fund.

My wifes engagement ring and wedding band both came out of units.  bought the rooms for $2,700 sold some high end watches for $4k.  Rings appraised at $12k.. just don't tell her though. :67:

Still not sure of the total number of new episodes this season however based on Mike B's insight of 6 that doesn't leave too many left.

Last week they aired 2, this week they aired 2 and next week they are doing a best of a new episode.

If the 6 is right this season will only be a month long.  Also keep in mind that these weren't filmed as a new season but supposed to be aired with the last season.

slowly but surely ...

Nothing very visible just a couple of good hits to the face each.  It was broken up fairly quickly.

bought a 10x30 because of the 3" literally of dust on all of the items and some old pictures.  Room had been there for 26 years.  around the entire perimeter there were water bottles about 200+ filled with urine of varying depths.  pretty awesome.

weirdest was a little bag of diamonds ... as in how the heck did this person have a bag of diamonds and why did he leave them in this unit.  Turns out that he showed back up at the facility 3 months later and asked to pay for his room and when they told him it sold he threatened to kill the facility manager and his family and then asked for my name.   :67:

If I notice a mistake in a legal notice that may end up cancelling the entire auction I'll call the facility and let them know.  Most of the time they fix it and put in a new one the next day.

If I only catch it the day of the auction when I'm going through the names I keep it to myself.  I don't consider it stealing because of a typo.  At the end of the day they still haven't paid their bill for 45+ days and have abandoned their unit in one way or another.

I have seen someone bid another person up on a really good unit and when they lost they went into the main office and told them that there was an error in the legal notice .. which there was .. when the guy came in to pay they voided the sale.  The result was a fist fight in the parking lot.

The mindset is of course because its so close to your house/store/warehouse its cheaper for you to move or to make multiple trips so you take the money you are saving from transport and put it towards your purchase price.

The other one is as mentioned that you are trying to scare people away from buying at "your" facility which is never going to be absolute.

When I was starting out a whale was bidding everyone up at a facility that "he owned' but I took a junk room for $25.  He laughed at me while I was unloading garbage bags and he was moving high end furniture.  I found giftcards worth about $800, a brand new limited edition coach bag that I sold on ebay for $200 and some other odds and ends that I kept for myself.

I haven't missed an auction there since and have continued to make money.  He still goes but I think that buy every room mentality hurt him in the long run.  Hes still a whale but mostly goes for just what he wants and not to block everyone else out.

Interesting advertising for auction tomorrow.  First ad in a local paper today and noting that second ad will be tomorrow AND auction at 11:00 am tomorrow.  Never seen such a quick sale.  Wish I could be at this one.

In my area there is a facility that does that.  Its in their contract that the facility become the immediate owner of the contents of the unit and they can dispose how they see fit.  As such they are not bound by lien law and simply are selling their units.

These units are obviously heavily gone through, staged ..etc.

I saw about 20 minutes of the second episode.  Brandon calls Rene a "cry bag p**sy" which I thought was funny and then Rene fell face first into garbage.

I loathe his voice and the overall "this is my backyard" theme that they all resort to.

I have a facility down the block from my house and if someone wants to bid the room up its all theirs.  I'm not overpaying to "protect my turf"

If Mike B was right, which I believe he is and they are only running 6 episodes this "season" then it looks to finally be the end.

First you don't end a show that is still profitable.  They will run it into the ground, wipe out the entire case and start over with cheaper people, cross promote ..etc. before they end it.

Second if its only 6 episodes then the show is over in 2 more weeks.  I just checked and every week they are airing 2 new episodes.

It looks like they are dumping the last episodes due to contractual obligations and calling it quits.

Now if they go ahead and sell the show to another network then they will end up wiping out the entire cast, less one to keep the tie in and start over.

NY and Texas are dead and CA is on the way.
