eBay / Re: Misleading Listing on eBay
« on: February 11, 2014, 01:36:33 PM »
Now just hope it works better than mine does.  I bought one of  those no name brand Chinese replacement power supplies for my Toshiba laptop instead of spending the extra to get a genuine Toshiba one, and it get's super hot to the touch.....not just warm, but really, really hot.

I've had it for awhile now and should have sent it back right after I got it, but it's too la

I'll hope for the best !

Before I ordered this thing I looked at a half dozen I had from years of accumulating them from lockers, etc. Not a one had the same output connection to go into the laptop.

Right now it's chugging away on the laptop I have dedicated to my tv for sourcing feeds from the internet, so it's basically on all the time. I'll be sure to check it every few hours to see how the heat is doing.

I called them and they said they had 100,000 users on the site and it was causing it to crawl and not function properly..

Probably 99,000 of those came after they referenced here on the forum.  ;D

My item arrived 5 days (instead of 12) after I paid for it and considering yesterday (Monday) was a holiday for the post office that's darn good.

It did come from within California instead of directly from China, so that was good. Guess they put on the max days delivery to cover themselves...would have taken longer to the midwest or east.

Funny....

The shipping address was:

(my name)
or Resident
(my street)
(my city, state, zip)

I guess this meant "don't return this item to us"...any resident could have kept it.

Overall I was satisfied with it..it fit the computer input so that was the main thing no matter
when it arrived.

Yeah I only bought 1 online before, still selling the contents from it, paid $820 + 10%, so 902. Currently at 4034.24 on it, but I think it will end up between 5-6k when I'm done.

That's a great buy !

Which online service did you use?

The Lounge / Dumb Starbucks Marketing Ploy

The Dumb Starbucks coffee shop was "uncloaked" as a stunt pulled by a Comedy Central comedian.

Starbucks taking a gentle approach so far.

usatoday(dot)com/story/news/nation-now/2014/02/10/dumb-starbucks-parody-free-coffee/5357597/

One line I read said people went to it just to get a cup with the "dumb starbucks" logo on it.
Got me to thinking that they would pop up on eBay.
That got me to thinking maybe I should run off a few thousand of them, but then I remembered the team of lawyers the real Starbucks has on retainer.

I hate the SB interface.... It's also a very slow site.

Do you bid/buy lockers online ?

While I still admire your tenacity I have to say that peoples' perception of "free" often falls back to the old saw "If it's to good to be true, it probably isn't".

Well, as a picker this question doesn't really apply. I don't buy a bunch of stuff and find good and bad.
I just try to make good buys (at a cheap price) of things I've already looked up to see if they sell higher than the price that is being asked for them.

Greaseballs.. Meaning guys that are handy, work on cars.. If I see cans of brake fluid, antifreeze, power steering fluid, woodworking tools etc. it's a good locker, especially if it's dusty.

Maybe in the Carolinas the greaseball is a mechanic type, but in a lot of places that term relates to
a foreigner, esp. one of Mediterranean or Latin American origin.

I remember the term "grease monkey" being used to refer to auto mechanics.

Looks like it finally happened. I knew they were up to something. Storage Battles is merging with Storage Treasures under the Storage Treasures name. In a way this is good for us. Instead of there being 3 major online storage auction sites, there is now two. On the other hand, it's going to be tough to compete against a site like this. However, I'm still banking that in the long run facilities will prefer our site over theirs because we don't charge buyer or seller fees. Only time will tell.

This has been coming for a few months now. When ST told me they would like to have me write for them (with full access to the TV shows stars .... whoopee !) they indicated there were big things coming. I can't imagine something bigger than this, unless they were to buy Travis' site too !

That being said, if you aren't listing 100-150 items a month, it's not worth it.

Safe to say I fit in that category.

To me the 2 biggest advantages are only .20 to place a 30-day BIN listing and shipping discounts.

See, I don't get that. I don't think it costs me much to list an item for 30 days (less than a $1.00 anyway, if that).

Now if there are significant shipping discounts, that might be another story. What type of discount are we talking about?

Almost without exception I charge a $3.00 packing/handling charge and I let them know about that upfront (if they're even half way smart and read what's happening) so no surprises.

Still, I am not running at 5.0 on the shipping/handling....only 4.8. Guess I can live with that considering that my $3 charge goes toward offsetting eBay/PayPal fees.

I do "free shipping" on some lightweight items. Beyond me how any buyer can't figure out that the price has been inflated to COVER that free shipping, but I guess the word FREE does wonders...not in every case as witness the FREE service that some companies offer that don't seem to get them a lot of business.

Anyway, everyone should use what works for them.

eBay / Re: Waiting them out on eBay

Unfortunately in my case, they won't let me set immediate payment requirement because I do not have an eBay store. I don't know if MM has an eBay store. I think it is their wayu of forcing people to get a store. I do not sell enough consistently to justify the monthly expense myslef.

I don't have a store. Ten years ago I studied it and couldn't see the advantage over the cost (I think it's about $15 a month). At that time they had a tiered cost for placing an ad. That's when a lot of people started ANY item at .99 cents...that was a free listing.  If you had an item you wanted $200 for and you started it at $100 it might have cost you a $1.50 or something.

I know RFR will say you get higher placement in listing placement, etc, but I've never had trouble with that anyway, so whatever perceived advantages there are to having a store, I just don't buy it. But unlike RFR, I'm not netting $20K a month in sales.  ;D

Since it was a buy it now listing, you should've had the immediate payment required option checked.

I'll look into that next time but I have only had maybe 6 non-paying situations in 10 years, so don't know how important it is.

Would that option stop people from making offers if they didn't have that much cash available at the moment they make the offer ?

Also, since I didn't want to take PayPal (cash upon pickup) that might be a reason NOT to use it.
The PayPal fees on an amount like $1,200 are not small...I'd rather have that cash at pickup  going to me rather than to them. It's a trade-off I guess, but as I said, only happens maybe .5 to 1 time a year.

Even though they have high retail value, finding a buyer for them is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I've been thinking about putting them on eBay and letting it ride.

Seems like a no-brainer to put them on eBay. Increases the chances of selling them XX fold over cList.

It would help if they had the uprights as well.
